I think since the turret on the bottom can rotate what we are seeing in the screencap is the rear of the TIE fighter

EDIT: @Altgr0160 beat me to it :p

Yeah thought that too, this would kinda confirm the turret theory!

Good eye. There must be rear cannons or they can rotate.

EDIT: Just saw that close up you posted. Rotating turret on the bottom. Nice!

Those round wheel on the wing beam look weird....the old design looked better....What are they even for?

I think it's probably the cannons on the south pole of the cockpit that can rotate.

I wouldn't expect a immediate explanation. I think they simply make the tie fighter look sturdier. It's clearly an "advanced" version of the tie fighters from the OT.

maybe the cockpit can rotate? Also a turret seems like a bad idea for a TIE fighter. Needs a saftey mechanism to make sure you don't blow your wings off!

Don´t get me wrong. Change should happen even in design...But it looks very smacked on....without imagination...we will see....Sometimes it needs time...

Maybe the "wings" do some kind of "S-foil-esque" transormation...

I also just noticed that it's a different version from the tie fighter that is chasing the MF.

So you will probably get your "regular" tie fighter as well. This one still has white wings, but doesn't have any of the advanced stuff on.

Those ring-riggs/holsters could be the parts where the TIE-Fighters get lift up in the hangar?

I just had an epiphany. We've heard rumors about a seven clan that came in and killed some Jedi academy in the movie. Personally, I have seen no evidence of this occurring in the movie thus far. However, I had a bit of an epiphany with the image of the new Tie Fighter. What if the First Order is only one of seven? We've seen two different types of Tie Fighters now - the same models but one with a Red First Order stripe. Well what if the First Order is just part of a much bigger operation that will play out in the future films? Again, I still don't believe in the seven. But I think this isn't the worst way to go either.

You can clearly see the lower turret reflected on the surface below the ship.

So maybe there is a Second Order out there...hmmm.

Why the heck are they not using Interceptors? They're way nastier than standard TIEs.

It does seem to be able to rotate, doesn't it? It's not fixed in place.

I've really been hoping we would see some ships in 6" (1/12) scale.

My wish has been granted. Of course, I'm going to need a 6" scale X-Wing to get into a dogfight with the big TIE.:D
