I'm gonna say plain old PG, like the original trilogy.

If someone wants to know, we in Germany have the FSK (free self control)
0 - anyone can watch it (children in company with parents)
6 - you need to be 6 years old to watch the movie (with parents)
12 - you must be 12 years old to watch the movie (with parents if it's a screening after 20:00)
16 - you need to be 16 years old to watch the movie (without parents)
18 - you must be an adult

I guess PG as well, but I also agree that if you are taking your kids to see movies based on the “Rating System” then you aren’t getting anything but a rating as opposed to what the movie really contains. That’s the same as the old Tommy Boy routine of “But there is no guarantee” “Well I can take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I have spare time”…

In other words, these ratings shouldn’t be the sole reason you do or do not show a child a movie. It should be from common sense in parenting. You KNOW a Star Wars movie wont be too graphic for a child, especially now that Disney is at the helm. They sell toys…spoiler alert…to children.

Here is the thing: Look at previews, titles, interviews, whatever…make a decision on whether your child has matured enough to be exposed to it. I can’t think of anything in Star Wars that a kid wouldn’t need to see. I mean, some kids are scared of things like Palpatine’s disfiguring due to lightning or hands being cut off…that makes sense, and to avert nightmares….avert from Star Wars. Period. Those things happen in this universe. No matter if its PG or not…someone is losing a hand, and I can think of plenty of kids who don’t need to see that.

I mean, just think. Which of these movies would you show your kid based on title alone? With no prior knowledge other than title?

    50 Shades of Grey

    How to Train Your Dragon

If I look at those, and try to determine which is more/less violent and likely to have “scary” parts…im thinking a movie with Dragons is out the window. Then I see a rating…Oh WOW…. G for Dragon and R for 50 Shades. (May not be the real ratings) I really messed up with my initial decision.

So just do research, take from past experience, and decide that way. No way im stopping any kid from seeing Star Wars…ever.

I was surprised about the rating I though it would have been a pg15 rating, but hey as long as fans turn up & have a good time.

Hopefully they don't do a directors cut for a pg-13 at home... all we need is more confusion on what is canon.

Honestly, they can probably do a pg film fine. The cursing in star wars has always been made up, we don't need to see a ton of alien boobs flopping around, and the weapons cauterise the wound.

Now content and context has always been a little weird...all those alien women chained up.

I hope they don't do a directors cut either i'd hate to have to buy a extended copy of scenes that were not revealed in the movie, as for the nude concerns I think JJ has covered it, the costume leia wore in TROTJ was a one time thing, injuries from blaster fire I doubt they bring that in TFA.

i can't see any star wars film being a problem for children to see, none of them contain sex or swearing, which are the real problems with adult films.. the violence is very minimal.. no blood or real horribleness.. for the most part its against bad guys anyway.. even young children can understand the need for violence in the face of evil.. if you're really stopping a child over 7 or 8 from seeing any star wars film you can consider yourself an overprotective parent.

Jedi sex? Sex between emotionless, serene monks? Might as well watch British porn.

It will definitely be PG - the violence should be at a similar level as the other six and we know there won't be any sexy time in there.

That said - I do think this Anthology idea creates the opportunity to do even R-rated spin-off standalones at some point. Like the Netflix Daredevil series for Marvel.

Since we are unlikely to see sexual content, subastance abuse, or profanity - the rating will clearly be based on the level of violence.

"Depictions of violence are generally restricted to PG and above. The violence in a PG rated film will not be intense, while violence that is both intense and persistent will generally require at least an R rating."

Compared to ANH - TFA seems to have much more intense violence.
Compared to ROTS - TFA seems slightly less nasty (no younglings killed thus far)

Considering that Star Trek: Into Darkness got a PG-13 rating - it would appear that the editing team is going to have to tone down the "war" if they want anything less.

Hey, I was being taken to "R" rated movies by my family back in the 70's and double features no less. At 9 yrs old, I seen my first ( o )( o ) with my Father watching a Clint Eastwood movie (The Gauntlet). I've seen scarier movies on TV as a kid that still give me nightmares, so it's up to you if you want your child to see a PG-13 movie, but I think I turned out alright.
