This is one of the best critical and honest reviews of The Force Awakens I've ever seen, even better than Mr. Plinkett's.

I do not think its the worst film ever made, in fact I dont even think its the worst SW film ever made... Its certainly better than the prequels.

However, The Force Awakens is plagued with flaws and problems. It was such a missed opportunity. Rey and Finn were likable, but you had to leave your brain at the door when watching this. It doesnt have the best rewatch value. Rey being absolutely perfect at everything and knew the force without a mentor breaks everything we love about the story line of the force. The force is out there, but you have to have a mentor in order to understand it and use it. You cant just do jedi mind tricks and defeat one of the most power villains in the galaxy in a lightsaber duel without a mentor or any training.... Its stupid. I guess they are heading toward the chosen one direction which ironically was one of the worst subplots about the prequels. Nothing like taking the worst idea besides midicholorians from the prequels and implementing it into the sequel trilogy that Disney claims will aim toward the OT fans.

Yeah, it has no rewatch value, sure... (while writing this post, Pawek_13 cannot wait to come back home to rewatch Episodes IV, V and VII.) Don't get me wrong, I do see your point and I'm very aware of problems that this film has, especially the plot being a compilation of the tropes from the OT. However, I do not agree with the statement that Rey is perfect. She's an unnaturally capable Force user, sure, but we'll get to that later.

Do you remember what music played when Rey grabbed Anakin's lightsaber? The same as at the moment when Luke sees burnt corpses of Owen and Beru. A moment when he seals his fate and decides to embark on the journey to Alderaan with Obi-wan, when he begins his journey to become a Jedi knight. Rey was terrified by her destiny. Throughout her journey with Finn, Han, Chewie and BB-8 she wanted to come back on Jakku, where she would be struggling to live, sure, but she would be free of all the problems that Galaxy faced, where she would sit like a puppy politely waiting for her masters (parents) to come and pick her up. Only after Finn was destroyed by Kylo she embraces what is supposed to come for her, mere minutes before the film ends, what is symbolised by the music. She's still very much a child and many people tend to forget about it.

Speaking of mind reading scene - this is how I'd explain. Since Kylo was reading mind of a Force-sensitive person, she had a power to do the same, but she wasn't aware of it and she didn't have enough knowledge to create such a connection. Kylo created a connection between himself and Rey and the only thing that she did was utilizing that connection, not creating a new one. I won't delve into the lightsaber combat, because it was analyzed hundreds of times and the basic concept of it is Kylo wins against Rey, Rey taps into the Force and overpowers him. Basically, that was the will of the Force. I understand that using Deus Ex Machinas in storytelling isn't the best thing to do, but they were, are and will be a common trope in Star Wars. How would you otherwise explain from the story perspective Luke taking down the Death Star at the very last moment, Luke surviving his fall on Bespin that would otherwise make from him a bloody puddle and Anakin saving his life at the very last moment?

I liked the Force Awakens, and I would not describe myself as specifically a defender of it as it had plenty of flaws, however, I watched this video the other day and his points make absolutely no sense to me and are easily debunked and explained away. He's thinking so hard that he misses the obvious points. I'll give a few examples:

-The Rey/BB-8/Teedo scene: The scavengers are just that, they scavenge for things. BB-8 is in working order and there is clearly some variety of code when it comes to the treatment of people and droids, of which Teedo is violating. "Teedo has no respect for anyone." Of course Unkar violates that too, but he is also a scheming gangster who steals things that don't belong to him, not your garden variety scavenger. But I'm pretty sure there are gonk droids roaming around that no one has scraped either. So why would Rey save BB-8 then abandon him, the same reason you throw a homeless person a 5 spot but don't put them through college. And why send him to town? Where is he more likely to find Poe, and how much better off is he not going to town? Why does BB-8 not get subtitles? Why don't any droids get subtitles? And are subtitles necessary to follow the conversation? No.

Finn and friend: So why does Finn have allegance to his ST friend and not the others? That's one of those things we don't know but can easily infer: did his friend also have reservations about serving the FO? Was his friend the one that made him start to question his allegiances in the first place? Did he have personal relationships to the same degree with any other storm troopers? Are the storm troopers innocently trying to defend themselves or are they attacking helpless people and systems? Wouldn't that make the dynamic of who to kill vastly different. If he didn't agree with their attack of innocent people and systems and wanted to defect, then why would he have a problem blasting them to escape and save Poe?

-Poe's jacket: As far as BB-8 knew, Poe was alive. Which begs the question: why would anyone else have his jacket? What did Finn do to get the jacket? I'm pretty sure no one is accusing Rey of harming X-Wing pilots for their helmets.

-Opening scene: Why did Kylo not mind probe Lor San Tekka? A. He assumed he wouldn't need to because the village is small and he could just strong arm the locals until he had it. B. It takes concentration which would leave him vulnerable, and taking Lor back to a ship to mind probe him would mean someone could just move it. C. When Kylo killed Lor, he was operating under a highly irrational, emotional state consistant with his character and his struggle against the light side of the force. The mention of his family made him lose it because of that struggle and the animosity he has toward his family (Han). D. What we don't know is if Lor has any force sensitivity which might make extraction more difficult.

I could go on and on and on, but you get the idea. Excessive scrutinizing with accessible explanations.

Another issue for me with this "critique" is that he assumes that the lack of information means the presence of a mistake. Lack of information is just that. The original didn't bother explaining how Obi-Wan got to Tatooine, where he got the kyber crystal to make his lightsaber, midichlorines, why the death star had a major design flaw, or what the blue milk was made of, but that doesn't mean they made mistakes. If we had an explanation of everything the movie would be endless and ridiculous.

People get really good at criticizing things they don't fully understand and use terms they don't fully understand like plot holes and continuity. If I thought this hard about everyday life I could probably convince myself that none of this is real (no one start ;) )

To me, this video is subjective, narrow minded, and a ridiculously biased projection of animosity toward TFA. This guy clearly hates the film. This is subjective commentary for entertainment purposes and lacks any credibility as a serious critique. But it won't surprise me that haters of the film will flock to such "reviews" without giving them much critical thought.

TFA is clearly not without its shortcomings, but I see no evidence that it is completely incoherent as this guy claims.

the "rewatch value" of TFA is purely subjective.
i watch it all the bloody time. i love it unabashedly.
i'm not blind to its shortcomings, but it's the most entertaining thing i've had on my plate since Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
as a militant defector in the PT era, TFA literally saved the franchise for me.

The creator of the original 6 movies worked very hard to "create tone poems" and "moments of visual rhyme." People have written books about ring theory in the first 6 films. I submit that any new work that is faithful to the original has to include those elements.

If you want to get into shameless commercial interest that the maker of the vid seemed to imply he should make a vid without over the top click bait title.

    Almost perfect review.

One of the most badly executed plot holes was when the Millenium Falcon escaped Jakku without a hyperdrive with a Star Destroyer above the planet monitoring everything. I guess the new Star Destroyers don't chase Millenium Falcons anymore or the First Order monitoring the planet just watched it fly away?

Rey saves a droid from a scavenger, then tries to send the droid to a village full of scavengers. Makes no sense, especially given she knows these scavengers and Unkar Plutt's personality. Made no sense.

Kylo Ren kills all the new jedi, then gets beat by an untrained force wielder. He even had problems against a stormtrooper who had never even picked up a lightsaber. Nevermind the training requirements from previous movies.

This movie was not horrible but also not great at the same time.

I think this movie would have been better written by someone else.

Yawn. Same asinine gripes we've been hearing for a year.

    Let me just remind you:

-334 out of 362 professional reviews were POSITIVE.
    -89% Positive audience reviews.
-The most widely seen Star Wars film since 1977
-The most successful film in U.S. and U.K. history
-The most Oscar nominations for a SW film since the original.

But because some losers online found things to gripe about, it's the worst movie ever. OK.

Yes in your universe no rookies every upset the experienced. Must be like Dragonball Z no you can't win your power meter is lower. The 1st Order is capable with one ship responding to any ship leaving a planet. Instantly no less.

Is your reasoning for liking the movie "well everyone else liked it, see all the good reviews"? IMO, thats because a ton of people who were introduced to Star Wars for the first time saw the film and reviewed it.

Have you seen the massive amount of repercussion of bad reviews, people rethinking, and those who took off the nostalgia glasses?

Its being discussed on every social media site. It definently does not have the hype and steam it once did,

    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 23, 2016, Original Post Date: Dec 23, 2016 ---
It was a poorly thought out movie. Yes a Star Destroyer with a full crew would detect the Millenium Falcon (especially considering the fact it was just in battle) and move to intercept easily since Star Destroyers were already established to be faster. Only an inept writer would allow the Millenium Falcon to escape without even a chase scene (Jar Jar Abrams).

But theres so much more wrong with the movie besides that... it was just... horrible.

Master the council will not go along with you this time. The movie is horrendous. They all sense it, why can't you?

Kylo is not a fullly trained anything other than has the gift and full of arrogance.

But besides that Vader got beat, out manueverd, and out piloted to destroy the Deathstar by Farmer Luke an untrained force user. Boom

Vader was killing rebels left and right. Luke had to have Wedge save his butt so he was not a fantastic pilot. Vader was 5 seconds from killing Luke "I have you now." in tune with the dark side when an external force acted. Also making a lucky shot for destroying a Death Star is far from Rey grabbing lightsabers and doing jedi mind tricks as a novice. World of difference.

It was just a badly executed movie, from my certain point of view. Certain point of view you ask? Well yes, you see many of the truths we clinge to rely on our point of view. I am just glad others are starting to see this point of view and unerstand our love for this great saga! Our passion!

The repercussions on JJ are enourmous right now, and even Kathleen Kennedy is under pressure. Amazing what the internet will do and also what happens when men talk and do not flame. A more civilized tool for a more civilized age.

It's no different. Vader was behind Luke forever and couldn't even kill him. The best piolt in the galaxy couldnt kill an untrained farm boy from Tatooine. Then Luke must've been watching the movie "Wanted" and learned to curve lasers.

Take off your rose colored glasses.

uh Luke also had help from the entire rebel alliance directly against vader and the death star, the force, being the son of the chosen one, etc. Kylo had training from both luke and snoke and was beaten by a scavenger and a sanitation storm trooper who saw what I'd BARELY call his first battle
