Obviously for to many people saga should be about Skywalkers, and their heirs.
And that makes money.
What if new approach fail to fill the pockets of Disney as predicted?
Turn around. TLJ appears to be Box Office flop, despite I personaly now apreciate film ,( its masterpiece),way to many people can not, I repeat can not resonate with new aproach.
We could have no SW at all.

 

The theme of TLJ is that the periphery has the right to be the universal; the support of reality deserves the status, making the support the deserve of status

The deserve of status is the support of reality. Reality is deserve of no status. Deserve of no status wants to replace itself with the deserve of status, but doesn't want to pass over the same self-awareness to the deserve of status

The deserve of status is honoured by reality by reality not giving the deserve of status the ability to be self-aware, which is the theme of TLJ

 

I don't think that was the biggest reason why this movie was bad in my opinion, but it's certainly an underlying detail that intends to send a subliminal message.

Disney actually did a very similar thing recently in Tomorrowland, which ended with a scene showing the "future of mankind" consisting of only minorities and zero white guys.



That film bombed at the box office.

 

Bad treatment of main brand within Star Wars, which were the Sykwalkers, was suicide.

And poor Han Solo, he died for what?

And for what we are gona watch Solo film next year? To see story about man who ended,...how? as failed father?

Those people are cutting the branch of the tree on which they are sitt.

 

How is the movie a flop? It's 4th in all time opening weekends of all time.

He sacrificed himself for his kid. If he was a bad father, he would have hid and ran or just yelled across. "Your Mother says go home, OK Chewie get us out of here!"

 

Only someone overly concerned with race would think this movie is "meant to demean and vilify people simply because of the color of their skin."

 

It is blatant who the white guys are. The old heroes are being killed off.

 

Really? How many people in the resistance where non white? Enumerate them please.

 

This isn't rocket science. Simply watch the movie again and listen to what Leia says followed by what is shown. You know, the rebel survivors of this tragedy of a film. To be clear I am talking about the ever famous minority grouping which surprisingly also includes white women.

 

So any movie that doesn't have a white man as a lead is trying to vilify white man? By the way, in case you didn't notice Luke's role was pretty important.

 

It's very clear why they chose to make new main Jedi character a nobody not linked to the Skywalkers. It's also very understandable why many people/fans consider this to be an "important step in the right direction". Obviously, it's about representation and that resonates very well with critics and young progressive people. But I think they did it in a wrong way. The main saga films are about the Skywalkers and that's how it should be. Spin-offs and other films can do whatever they want, and I'm all in for that.

I think a better way to showcase "representation" in order to please critics and young people would've been to take inspiration from the old EU, where Luke's Jedi Academy accepted people who weren't Force-sensitive. That would've been much more interesting, too.

 

I am not asking at *all* for a new white male lead. I cannot wait for Rey to actually have some flaws and become an interesting character rather than the one dimensional super hero that she is right now. Frankly I don't have a lot of hope for this since I have this horrible suspicion that these are simple another "marvel franchise" in Disney's eyes.

I am only making a valid observation about who they decided would be the remaining rebels vs the evil empire led by evil white men. That is all. It is clearly observable if you bother to look.

Sorry for intruding, but why do you call another person with another opinion than your own for a "young apprentice"? Obviously you wanted to make a joke, but it's not a great joke.

 

All you need to is watch (ideally wait and rent) the movie. It speaks for itself.

I watched the movie many times I have it on my hard drive, the idea that the movie is trying to vilify white males because the last of the resistance has few white males is simply ridiculous sorry.

 

Honestly, when I went to the movie. I didn't go into to it analyzing and looking for racial connotations and who was left. This is a galaxy full of aliens, including humans. Many died on both sides. Not sure this topic was supposed to be going.

 

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

 

The fact that people in this thread are judging TLJ and the new SW movies based on the way they represent race disgusts me. The FO does not represent the "evil white men". If I'm correct you never see a majority of their faces. Many of the extras who play stormtroopers and officers in these films are women and people of multiple races. I would assume the SW universe is very diverse. You are obviously not paying any attention to the film, and only seeing what you want to believe. You are not a good representation of the SW community. If you don't like it then leave. No one will miss you.
