ok, so here's my review of the Japanese Grand Prix...

lol, ok it wasn't 'quite' that bad... but it wasn't the most exciting race of the year.

wider cars and one of the narrowest circuits.. did not make for a great deal of overtaking and excitement.

did Ferrari pull themselves together and get back in the fight?

    nope.

broken spark plug.. lasted a lap of the race.

did Vettel keep out of trouble at least?
    nope.
he missed the national anthem when all the drivers are supposed to be in a line on the grid before the race.
he got a warning for it... this guy is getting away with something every single weekend now.

    who won?
Hamilton.. giving him a 59 point lead in the driver championship. stick a fork in that.. it's done.

great drive from MV.. a little less traffic at the end and the last few laps would have been very interesting.

Austin Texas next... fingers crossed for a better spectacle.

    :)

I know there wasn't much racing but I still love watching a F1 car drive that circuit the onboard shots from Hamiltons pole lap a just a joy to watch.
Yep SV is on his final warning one more & it's a grid penalty oh & the coast of that spark plug £52 I mean that's just a bit embarrassing when something that simple fails on your car.

I've raced at COTA (Texas track). It always seems so wide open and easy to pass. Should be very exciting. I missed the F1 race there last year, and my DVR failed to record it.

I've done British, Australian and Malaysian GPs, but not Belgium yet. There's a tentative plan for Spa next year with a couple of friends, so I can keep you posted on developments if you like?

Iam looking at going to one next year though I haven't worked out which one though if I can get a good flight I would like ve to go to the Singapore GP though the Spainish or French GP are more practical.

Ah, of course... you're Uk based too. That explains why you and @Maximus are the main players in this thread :D Maybe we should have a trackside Cantina meet!

Spa is a great track to be at, the Ardennes is a fantastic and beautiful setting for a track, it makes Silverstone look like what it is... a dull, characterless old airfield. Only GP I've ever done was Silverstone back in '06, I've been to quite a few other races though and seeing F1 at Silverstone was one of my least favourite experiences.

Yep - Spa is awesome. I've been there for GT and WEC races, as well as sneaking in past gates and doing my own lap when there was redevelopment work underway in 2007. The museum (feat. McQueen's Porsche 917 from the Le Mans movie) and the Trappist ale bar in Stavelot is great too.

Which makes total sense also DiResta is testing the same car today so they can use his times as a comparison for Kubica.

As fantastic as that would be Unfortunately I don't think this will ever happen for F1 cars it just to damm dangerous (even with all the safety features the cars have now) & it probably to narrow as well it looks fantastic but there would not be meny places they could actually overtake each other.

The circuit physically can't offer the required safety standards, there are simply too many high speed sections with inadequate provision to be able to slow or stop a car quickly enough once it leaves the track in order to keep the driver and spectators safe. Any attempt to do so would be massively expensive given the major earthworks it would entail, and in some places it simply wouldn't be possible. Add to that, sanitising the circuit for F1 would ruin it, and I'd be one of a great many people that would protest the utter ruination of the circuit for track side spectators simply for the spectacle of F1.. I'd add, a poor spectacle... the circuit is simply too narrow for such delicate aero dependent cars, and sprint races with small grids offer little entertainment for spectators.

    ...

But since I don't want to be too much of a negative nelly... here's Nick Heidfeld running the Nordschleife in BMW Sauber F1 car...

Jebus, that would be beyond scary... I've driven it in my own car back in '07 and I'll happily admit that while I loved it for the experience, it was also a brown daks moment that I can't imagine repeating!

Slightly off topic but have you seen some of the Top Gear stuff from the Nordschleife.
