Obviously there's a select few out there now who can provide evidence to prove definitely whether it's in there or not, but for the rest of us still playing the guessing-game, how do we all feel or assume things are going to play out musically with one of my favourite new additions to the Star Wars orchestral suites; the 'Imperial Suite' from Rogue One. Is this going to be a new Imperial theme that crosses media and will appear in various other Galactic Civil War-era movies such as this one, or do you assume this to be a theme exclusive to Rogue One?

Williams' motifs are obviously carried over, but what about one of Giacchino's finest additions? As a fan of the theme, I really hope its motifs will appear in Solo; having musical themes return in various other movies is a beautiful way of tying eras together, especially with Star Wars jumping around its timeline so much.

There's a TLJ alien species in Solo, so for me here's hoping one of Rogue One's great new musical themes that's designed to provide a new theme and connection to the Empire is also carried over. Much like seeing OT aliens in Maz's castle in Battlefront 2's cinematics, a bit of retroactive unification works wonders for me in making everything feel connected.

    Great thread!

I love the Imperial theme from Rogue One too and I also thought about it popping out here and there. Some people think Giacchino should have used the Imperial March, but I disagree. RO is basically meant to be seen alongside ANH and it would be pretty weird if the Imperial March was in RO, then disappeared in ANH and then reappeared in TESB. There's a very nice continuity going on the way it is.

However, that theme is very strongly connected with Krennic. It's basically Krennic's theme, so it would take a lot of work to make it synonymous with the Empire as a whole beyond RO (it works that way in the movie itself, because Krennic is the central Imperial character). I can definitely see it as a Death Star/development of the Death Star theme, though. If we ever see the Death Star in the making or something like that - blast this theme! But beyond that, I'm not sure... It definitely has potential to be a general pre-ANH Imperial theme, but it's difficult to make it work. It would take some multimedia effort. Who knows, maybe you're onto something and Solo could legitimise it as exactly that?

But I'm afraid I have to vote no, because I don't think it's likely. I think it's more probable that Powell used the Imperial March or maybe even came up with something else. There definitely has to be something. Remember that shot with the Star Destroyer in some kind of vortex? Some kind of Imperial theme has to be playing there. :) That said, I'd be happy if the RO theme returned in some capacity.
