So Kylo Ren's probing Rey's mind and he mentions that he seems what she's been dreaming about: an island and an ocean. This calls a bit back to Empire when Luke feels there is something familiar about Dagobah and its something out of a dream.

This tells me the Force has been calling out to her for a while now. BUT, and now this is conjecture...is is possible someone has been calling out to her as well? We saw Obi-Wan reach out to Luke on Hoth...we never see Luke dream of Dagobah, but we can assume he has based on his words later in the film just before he meets Yoda.

Additionally, we hear Obi-Wan call out to Rey when she touches the Skywalker lightsaber. Therefore, what is Old Ben is calling out to Rey through the Force to get to Luke. But she's not strong enough or in touch enough with the Force to truly see Obi-Wan or even hear him. There is a theory that the more in touch and stronger with the Force Luke became, the more life-like and Obi-Wan became. Remember he started as a voice after death and ended up pretty damn clear as a ghost in ROTJ.

After she touches the lightsaber she realizes she has powers and recognizes its the Force. From there she starts to test her powers (as Ren mentions to his guards and troopers).

Rewatching TFA with these thoughts now, her journey to Force recognition makes even more sense. It's always been there but until she touched the saber it didn't click. And until I recognized the Ren's words about the island and ocean as a call back to Luke and Dagobah, the idea that Obi-Wan is calling out to her seems very plausible.

I think it more likely that Luke caused the Force to reach out to her. He may not have even known it but she is the answer the Force provided to Luke on his quest (whatever that quest is) Perhaps what ever Luke has been trying to find, he finds in her.

after all, he finds her on Ach-to.

Based on Luke's reaction at the end of the film, I don't think he was reaching out to her. If anything it screamed "dammit Obi-Wan..."

That's an interesting concept, which also could be applied to Qui-Gon Jinn. We've seen his consciousness manifest as a disembodied voice, as spheres of light, and as a Force ghost.

It's not my own, I believe I first heard it on Full of Sith. But it makes a lot of sense. Not sure if Pablo confirmed it or not.

With headphones and maximum volume there's clearly a feminine scream inserted at 1:54, just after "I see the island".

What could it be? A scream of Rey's mother from the past?

    I think it's either

Rey tapping into the force for premonition because she's under stress. That is a big part of Rey in TFA. Stressed Rey = Force use either willingly or unknowingly.

    Or

"going to a happy place" because an island on a water planet is basically the opposite to SANNNNNNND SO MUCH SAAAAND :D

Yeah, with the whole Mary Sue issue even today, which will most likely be even more clarified by the end of Episode VIII, this thinking alone really makes me happy :) I've found Rey's journey just a tad too quick for my liking, but that rationalizing really helps :D

Once you get, Rey is Anakin and Kylo Ren is Vader, this scene is crazy. Every line is great. And they could read each other mind easily. Anakin is tied like when he was in Vader's head ( you're my guest ) and Vader hide him to embrace the dark side.

I think the ocean is not the one on Acht To but the one in Naboo that's why Kylo can see it too.

I think it's little Rey screaming when she's abandoned. It's a distorted version of the sound. You can hear something similar, but even more distorted, when the camera pans slowly from Rey to a scared Kylo Ren towards the end of the scene. You see a grown man's face and hear a little girl's voice, it's very eerie once you notice it. It's that heartwrenching "noooooooo" and his face says just that, it's like you're suddenly in a horror movie lol

i definitely agree with the force most likely reaching out to rey-- it reminds me a bit of KOTOR and when both your character and bastila have the shared dreams of locations of the star map. the force is probably interacting with rey in a similar way, calling for her to go there. although, it would be interesting if someone else was calling to her or trying to manipulate her visions. in TFA, snoke wanted to see rey after being told of her abilities, so now that he knows of her (or maybe he has for a long time?) he could influence her visions so she would be more inclined to do what he needs her to do for his own plans.

Rey definitely became a lot more aware when she touched Luke's saber at Maz's.
But it wasn't until Kylo used the force to read her mind when she was locked in the chair that the force "Awakened" in her. I believe he ignited the small flame of force in her and started it to burn. He was the catylest.
He was able to see the island but didn't think much of it. I think at some point in Episode VIII that vision of the island will be the key to him finding Luke and enable him and the knight of Ren to find their way to Ahch-To.
Which at that time we will witness Luke wield a light saber again.

A bit off topic,,,I know Rey is strong with the force, but (IMO) a big reason why she was able to reverse Ben's mind probe so easily is because they are siblings.

It gives me chills of hearing Kylo describing Rey's thoughts.
