I think it's crazy to say that Harloff isn't honest because I think he's honest to a fault. Where someone like John Campea I find slightly dishonest because he will stand by his original point regardless of his feelings or how they may have changed. Now I agree with Campea's view of TLJ more than Harloff's but I don't let that have an effect on my opinion of either of them. To be fair, I was definitely not around for the Rebel Dawn situation which does sound dishonest but you should probably not continue to judge people based on actions from twenty years ago over their actions today. Being unsure of TLJ and then making that opinion known after people have seen the movie is perfectly acceptable. He knows that he has a large platform and if he gives the mixed review before people see the film then they might have a spoiled view of the movie going into it.

EDIT: Just realized from another comment you were probably talking about A New Dawn from three years ago rather than Rebel Dawn from twenty years ago.

Yes I agree with most of what you said, although John has said when his feelings do change about a film or series he'll give it another go. For example, the Legion series he disliked at first but came around eventually and said he now like it very much. I've watched Harloff and Campea since the Movie Talk days and Harloff for some reason always rubbed me the wrong way.

I think I did go a bit far with Harloff, but for me the Rebel Dawn situation really put me off. I still watch Movie Talk now and then its not the same without John: However, John has stated that those guys are his friends, so I've given them another go. To me most of the people on collider are superficial the ones that are good in my opinion are John Schnepp, Outlaw Rocka, Ken ( I watched Ken since he was on Jedi Alliance, great host well read too, I think I enjoyed every Star Wars book he recommended), and of course Campea. I had a problem with some of the host on ScreenJunkies too, so I don't follow them anymore as well. I now follow Collider depending on the host and of course all of Campea's shows are great!

Music only version, what an load of bollocks. They should have added a directors cut version instead.. I dont care what Rian Johnson says an dc edition would have been much better and satisfying for fans that liked the movie.. But no this is apparently all about Johnson himself..

I've watched, for the most part every episode of Jedi Council, Harloff for me is annoying because he goes back and forth. he doesn't take a solid stance. If he hates the film just come out and say so, it won't bother me at all, but bantering on and on about the negatives tells me that you really didn't like it, and why are you hiding this obvious fact, is he frightened that he'll lose subscribers?

That's why I love Campea, he is not afraid to say he likes a film that most don't like, for example, Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and Batman v. Superman are films that most people dislike but Campea agrees those films have flaws, but he won't be afraid to say he likes those films. I think Harloff is a fraud cuz he doesn't say what he really feels about a film, he just jumps on the bandwagon. the backlash wagon ;) Harloff is a film pundit, he should be able to articulate what he feels about a film especially, Star Wars films.

I don't dislike him entirely, he has his moments, he is really good at getting allot of special guest on his show from LFL, Still waiting for Boyega to make an appearance, his interviews aren't really that good, I think someone else with more journalistic experience would ask better questions but he is ok for the most part. I don't want to seem like I hate the man, thats going a bit too far.

But the 2h 30m cut is the "director's cut." The director's cut gets released when the cut we saw in theatres isn't the one the director wanted to present or when he or she believes that more scenes would somehow improve the theatrical cut. That's not the case here. What you saw in December is what Rian wanted to show us in the film. He believes this is the best version of the film we could have seen. Besides, no one makes versions of their film with just the soundtrack available anymore. This is the first time in God knows how long that a major motion picture got such a feature. It is probably the greatest gesture of appreciation Rian could have given to John William's work and you consider it self-centered? I mean... what?!

I wasn't able to download the isolated soundtrack version, the Movies Anywhere app constantly crashed on me but it sounds like it was a waste of time nonetheless, I'll give it another go in the future.

Wouldn't surprise me if he keeps that stance to avoid drama. He doesn't take criticism too kindly and his rants on Schmoes Know clearly show that. Honestly, IF that's the reason it's probably for the better. I'd rather him pretend to not like it than have him ranting against "Youtube trolls" every 30 seconds. Defending TFA almost broke him, defending TLJ surely would send him over some kind of edge.

I bought it on Google Play Store............no extras. So I got my money back right away. If I remember, the same happened with TFA, but then the extras suddenly appeared later.

Anyone know if this is the case this time?

The "Director and the Jedi" is an outstanding look behind how the film was made. I didn't realize how far into making the film they were before The Force Awakens came out. The Island shoot was 3 days in September 2015. Episode IX is significantly further behind schedule in comparison. The documentary does a good job with Hamill's issue with Luke and how Rian worked with the actors. There are some really touching moments. It's a must see for everyone loves the film.

It worked very well. I was worried it wasn't gonna work but it really does... and in my opinion it actually strengthened TFA a bit. It's kind of surreal watching characters like Snoke and Phasma and then realizing that due to the lack of time jump, by the time we reach TFA, they're living in their last days.

What's with the UK release date of 9th April and no digital copy included with the blu-ray yet again!! Surely they know that Easter weekend is the perfect time for a Star Wars saga marathon. Very annoying.

Surely an earlier UK digital release would have made sense, all this does is create potential demand for the black market and torrent sites.

I'm curious about this too. Generally I tend to wait for the blu-ray version when I'm going to buy a movie, but I've been relying more and more on streaming options recently and kinda want to just go ahead and buy the digital version now.

Only I want to make sure I'm getting the whole schmear (deleted scenes especially) and not just the movie itself, or the movie and a couple of selected extras.

Do you receive different amounts of bonus material based on what site you buy the digital copy from? Or do only certain streaming apps allow you to watch the bonus material?

I figured it out..... If you go through https://moviesanywhere.com it will allow you to purchase it from Google (or some others), then you watch it on moviesanywhere. Then you have all the goodies.

    Yay!

I've finally watched all the bonuses. Wow, you think you have an idea what it takes to make a movie, but really - you don't. It's amazing just to see a fraction of it.

There were some great stuff in The Director and the Jedi, touching, funny, quirky. Everything with Carrie was heartbreaking. The moment when Mark breaks down while playing the scene with the burning temple as well as filming of the scene between Luke and Leia, killed me. On a lighter note, Mark hanging from the wires and the crew seemingly leaving him there, was funny. I really liked it, I could have watched another hour and a half. Much better stuff, overall, than what we got with TFA.

    Okay.

I just watched The Director and The Jedi. I got all choked up when they showed the Luke/Leia scene. The reverence and care that Rian Johnson showed throughout the making of this movie was unreal.

I know the internet and the world hated this film, but good God above it wasn't because he didn't try.

Personally, it's my favorite one, and I'm sorry for that, but the FREAKING DOCUMENTARY made me well up like a small girl-human.

When Rian says....'okay Carrie, when you're ready....' Then the pause.....then the weak 'kay'.

Just shoot me now. That was so good. Post your comments below!!
