Agreed. When I saw those famous long ears appear the crowd erupted in cheers & applause. A impressive entrance by our little green friend. (yoda)

Wait what? Maybe I just didn't pay attention - Yoda burned the tree? *Mindblown*

I don't know how to feel really about the film. I LOVED The Force Awakens. Absolutely loved it. Watched 4 times in the cinema

The problems I had with TLJ
    1. Snoke being killed without knowing more about him and his seemingly lack of importance
    2. Death of Luke (if that is indeed what happened) . This killed me. I was hoping it would happen in epi 9 if it had to happen. Also not really sure how he died or why he died.
    3. Phasma's death. Seemed like a missed opportunity. Again, she may still be alive somehow
    4. Reys parents being nobodys

    Good points
    1. I LOVED how Leia used the force to save herself. It was visually stunning
    2. Rose is adorable and likeable
    3. Almost every second of Luke. Really strong performance by Mark.
    4. Luke saying that he isn't the last jedi
    5. A Luke/Leia reunion (sort of). At least they spoke to each other 1 more time

    Overall I give it 8/10 as a film. I thought TFA was 9/10 (ESB 10/10, ANH 9.5/10, ROTJ 8.5/10)

BUT again very disappointed with the use of Luke and his seemingly death. I can completely understand why Mark Hamil had a fundamental disagreement with how the character was used

lol i'm not traumatized.. i loved it my friend.

it's going to take me some time to digest things, but that is what i wanted. i wanted to be challenged about how i feel about the characters and the story.

hopefully @FN-3263827 is ok lol... she was worried that it might be a 1 step forward 2 steps back deal, which is kinda what happened i guess. I'm pretty certain that the ending i wanted in terms of Ben isn't now possible for episode 9.

wow, i almost forgot to mention Rose... i am totally in love with her! what a fantastic new character.

I thought Holdo was great too.. bit disappointed with BDT's role if i'm being truthful. think they could have used him more/better.

You’re absolutely right, some shouldn’t write of Luke or Yoda so easily now. All those force projections and manifestations in this film take that power to a new level, especially Yoda using the force from beyond. That and Luke’s last quote to Kylo gives me hope. Don’t mess it up JJ!

It also matches with some early ideas from George Lucas for the final battle with Palpatine, as Yoda and Obi-Wan’s force ghosts were to battle him in his lava throne room.

I'm going to see it again, as I have with every Star Wars film to truly judge it. In the end I love all the others, flaws and all. The thing that sticks out to me is the lack of suspense in the film and dramatic/action moments undercut by cheap gags. I thought the majority of the humor was miss, and ruined what could be some dramatic moments over and over again. Perhaps that type of stuff won't bother me upon a second viewing. However, dramatic moments like Luke meeting Rey for the first time seemed to be played for cheap laughs. I would get sucked back into the film only for yet another moment of "hilarious" one liners like chrome dome, which got an audible groan from me and many others in the theater, to take me right back out of the film. At some point there needs to be moments of real drama that aren't interrupted by cheap gags. Its like they felt almost every action or dramatic interaction needed some levity. I don't get it.

Maybe I'm exaggerating as certain moments may have bothered me so much that it could ruin other moments of comedy. For instance, I hated the interaction that started the film between Poe and Hux. I didn't find it funny and it bothered me that it played so hard for laughs right at the start. And I hated Luke tossing the Saber in that manner getting laughs from the audience. So that may have effected my feelings throughout the rest of it.

I feel like Disney will kill Star Wars. They have no idea. It finished 3rd last behind episodes 1&2.

Kyle Ren had so much potential instead they make him out to be some emo teenager that spends too much time crying. They need a villain that is colder then Vader but have never come close.

There was 53mins of the movie that went nowhere. Not to mention it was so predictable. The rebel scum should enter the WPT with all the “luck”they have. They constantly do the impossible over & over again in this movie. Please!!!

Does anybody have an explanation on why Luke's projection uses the blue lightsaber and not his green one? And why is he even in his younger form?

I could say that both would intimitade Kylo, but it doesn't really seem right...

The problem with this movie is that it just feels so unsatisfying.

I personally felt that Larry and JJ did a great job at setting up the ‘Mystery Box’ in TFA. In fact it was done so well that it created a frenzy of speculation that had me glued to this site (and others) since well before TFA was released looking for answers and clues.

In particular, the ‘force back’ scene, Snoke’s rise to power, Rey’s backstory, what was hidden in the unknown regions and the attack on the Jedi Temple all seemed to hint at some interesting back story that was going to take the saga into a bigger future that would tie the sequel trilogy into the original 6 films in a satisfying way.

I was hoping the movie would do something new and bold with the storyline. There’s been speculation flying around for the past couple of years about whether this film would delve into the history of the first Jedi, or link to the ‘Mortis arc’ or some ‘ancient evil’. I was hoping for a revelation that would not only be a plot twist in the movie but also impact on how we saw all the preceding films.

The whole way through the movie I was thinking at some point we’re going to get some great revelation about Snoke, the Jedi, the Sith, why Luke went to find the first Jedi Temple and what was really hidden by the Jedi in the temple. I was expecting Luke to reveal great secrets on the island to Rey and for us to realise that Luke had no choice but to be on the island because his calling to the temple transcended what was going on between the First Order and the Resistance.

I thought Rian was going to take the story to the next level. He seems such a nice guy and Disney seem to have been so impressed with him I thought he was really going to take what JJ set up and knock it out of the park.

The answers I got just didn’t feel right. For large parts of the film it just didn’t seem like Star Wars to me.

For me, I saw the green lightsaber with that specific hilt from RotJ in that scene. Can be that I’m totally mistaken.

I don't know about the choice of lightsabers, but my friend and I were joking after the movie that if we had to project ourselves through the Force across the galaxy, we'd almost certainly make ourselves look younger and thinner too. :p

I think the real reason was actually so that the viewers would recognize the difference between the "two Lukes" and not be as confused about what was happening.

I’ve got some very deep thoughts on this, but I’ll touch on it here.

Luke isn’t just projecting himself like some sort of hologram across the galaxy: what we’re seeing is what will go on to be/is his Force spirit. Remember: despite Luke sparking hope once more, the film makes the point very clearly that he is no longer a Jedi, even if he still has the best of intentions.

What I’m suggesting is that, as a result, his Force spirit, like his father’s, will be an image of his younger self, from when he was last a Jedi (same appearance as in the flashback to the destruction of the Temple, specifically), which suggests that eternal consciousness in particular is something that can only be achieved by someone who dies as, or has been, a Jedi, as well as being taught about this particular path. Though the Force flows through everyone and everything, I think that the fact that the Jedi in particular attempted to actively preserve peace and justice of the galaxy and the use of the Force makes them the only group worthy of becoming a Force spirit in the first place: if worse comes to worse, the Jedi and their positive attributes and teachings can be preserved in this way, and they can continue to guide the fate of the galaxy beyond the realm of mortals.

I think that the midichlorian count and Force sensitivity of the Skywalkers accounts for why Anakin and Luke might be capable of this despite a lack of evidence to suggest that they were ever taught about how to achieve such a state.

I mean on Crait. In the flashback he uses the green one.

Yeah but it was a bit of a giveaway. I knew something was wrong, unless he found some time to shave himself, have a haircut and even paint his hair and beard before joining the battle...

    I. Need. Time.

24h have passed and I'm still at the early stages of processing it. I don't feel ready to even start talking about it. After I walked out I genuinely and literally did not know what to think. Certainly not in a bad way, to be absolutely clear. I'm overwhelmed by how different it is compared to how I imagined it. But that's on me - I overthought it more than any film in my entire life. Even more than TFA. I have to learn to take TLJ as what it is and not what I thought it was going to be.

Seeing it again today. Can't wait, I almost feel like I'm going to see it for the first time again.

I know the feeling. 48h have passed for me and am also seeing it again today. No other film has ever struck me this way emotionally, but I'm having trouble interpreting my emotions.
I have felt from the start that I probably sit on the positive side and the film is slowly starting to grow on me as it sinks in. But I'm also afraid from time to time that a second viewing could turn the tides. But I think and hope that I will be one of all those people who say it gets better the second time.

    @srg @Nick Skywalker

I went for my second time yesterday, after walking out in the same position as you two from my initial viewing: I was confused, and honestly a bit lost and speechless, about what I’d just seen. If I had to score it then and there, a 5/10 would have been my only option, because I was genuinely clueless.

But the second viewing? Almost everything gets better (apart from that certain scene with Leia and comedic moments which didn’t land the first time). I have a long way to go before I finalise my opinions of the film, but if I had to score it after my second viewing, it’s easily up into the upper echelons, sitting somewhere between an 8 and a 10.

I hope that your second viewing resolves with you as much as, or even more than, it did with me, and that you enjoy the film more as a result! :D
