For me, it remains a 5/10 even on separate viewings.

Watched it yesterday, the movie ended around 01.00... I couldn't sleep until 04.30 or so... I felt so confused, so empty, Luke's death hit me really hard, didn't see it coming... I was expecting to see Leia's last stand...

As I am progressing the things I have seen, I will go tommorow to watch it again and hopefully it will get better this time...

i am working through so many feelings still.

i always called Snoke a MacGuffin and i'm now almost sorry it was true.
i am so horrified by how much worse he was in person than i'd ever conjured in my head.
and now Ben's taken that Darkness upon himself (i have just one small hope, Ben!).
i am glad the rotten old bugger is dead, but oh man. yes: i feel a bit traumatized ~ hahahaha

To echo thoughts others mentioned. The Skywalker line will end with kylos death. Luke told you what you need to know. He who saved Vader tells you he cannot be saved. Rey closed the proverbial and literal door on him. Carries death wrecks 9, wow where do they go?

Yeah, man, that's why I felt it was a bad idea to even state anything general after credits rolled. I knew I couldn't trust myself at that moment.

Look, I have no doubts I'll end up waaay out there in the positive zone. There are certainly some things I don't like, but for the most part there are things I just need to wrap my head around and understand my own feelings. What an inner journey.

This makes me think. Maybe Ren/Ben wants to become full darkness to end the darkness? He's lost and redeemed at the same time. Probably it's just crazy thinking...

there is always hope. i still maintain that it's when, and not if.

that's what chews me up... i was blaming him for Ben, and now he is no longer physically there to blame.

i also frowned a bit when Rey closed the door on the falcon... she was closing the door on him. Leia also admitted that he was lost.
it would seem as though he will have even further to come back from :(

i wonder if the bridge between them will remain after that falcon scene?

i'm sure the bond is still there. whether Rey will be open to it is another question.
and he's not too keen on her as we leave it either.

they have a lot to sort through.

i see some people saying he just used her to kill Snoke, but i don't believe that. he was earnest, completely.
he's just unfortunately more confused than ever.

I think EPIX will be set years later. The crawl will describe how the survivors from Crait were able to rally supporters and rebuild the REBELLION.

Agreed they were left in tatters even more so than ESB, but story wise there are easy ways to deal with that.

How you explain the death of a superwoman who can fly and live in space... that'll be a tougher sell.

i think he's just grasping at whatever power he can manage.
i think he believes (and has since before TFA) that the Light failed him.
now he's taking Darkness for a spin.

a lot depends on whether the conflict Rey said she still saw in him is something they can work with.
Luke didn't even really try to reach him on Crait. i think he knew he had no chance in his broken-down physical form.

i'm crossing my fingers that he's playing the long game, but man i don't like it ~ hahahahaha

I'm sure the First Order has ships spread out across the entire galaxy much like the Empire did, those few ships would have been those deemed necessary to crush the resistance. Ep IX will be set a few years later I should imagine.

I have seen The Last Jedi twice in less than 24h. Here in Brazil I got to see an opening at midnight Wednesday 13th. 15 hours later I was watching it again. It is hard for me to have something organized and concise to say regarding the film at this point... there is a lot to digest.

But I would like (and very much need) some space to organize my ideas.

    Initial reactions:
First thing- I am finding impossible to "rate" this film, and this says a LOT. I left my first viewing feeling I had been punched on my guts. I heard some people asking "what is going on with this film??" during the viewing. On my second viewing I felt more focused and "ready" for the onslaught I'd be seeing on screen. I recall a grown man sitting by my side crying. Everyone felt dazed. I felt deeply discomfortable throughout both viewings. I am still shocked and feeling empty inside. But do I think this overall reaction and deep emotional stir means the film is "bad"? Just because the film made me feel angry does it mean it doesn't accomplish its purpose as a piece of creative narrative art? As stirred and moved and "beaten" as The Last Jedi made me feel, or rightfully so because of that, I can say that I deeply appreciate the film and its place in the Star Wars cannon. It is a mature film: we are invited (or "forced") to go beyond ourselves to start to scratch the deeper meaning of this work. And I do believe that there is A LOT of deeper realisations only time will enable us to better grasp. And in that sense it felt like the work of geniuses.

Some impressions I have to get off my chest:
-This feels like the Star Wars film to end all Star Wars films, and perhaps wisely it is the second in the trilogy. BOOM, just let the cat out of the bag. It seems deeply mythical and cyclical in so many levels that it just makes my brain hurt. It may not seem obvious at first, but there it is!! All myths tell about cosmic cycles of death and rebirth, the dethroning or killing of the father/king for the renewal of life and order. Creative destruction - this film is about how the universal Force is greater than petty dark/light religions gasping vainly for mastery over all its aspects. The Force doesn't care, it just IS. The Force, as Life Energy, will just keep renewing itself eternally, and it does so by letting everything burn down and starting over afresh and renewed. And I felt that is why The Last Jedi seems to condense and echo the major mythic themes and intensity from both ESB and ROTJ all in one and at once and in your face with amazing speed and agression. It feels like the last film in a trilogy, not the second. And as disturbing or revolutionary as it might seem, I have the impression that it is absolutely necessary to cement the message that this is THE END of the Skywalker 9 film, 3 trilogy saga. Now I start to really feel that -this is it-, while leaving room for new things to come that doesn't keep repeating the same things over and over. In that sense I feel it is deep and moving, as was Luke's departure - full of purpose and peace. TLJ feels like the return to primordial chaos from where new order can arise and balance be restored.

-IT took BALLS from Rian Johnson, Kennedy and the story group. I'm sure people will be hating on this one, like jesus crucified, but I have the impression this film will only make sense much later, no sooner than epsiode IX. It definitely leaves a lot of space for them to make a final episode. I think that after seeing episode VII, we sort of forgot that this is part of a 9 part saga. I have the impression that TLJ will be seen in the future as a crucial aspect in the closing of this saga. Maybe it was something to do with seeing all that ancient jedi lore set to fire by none other than yoda, or seeing R2 repeating LEia's call for help from episode IV, but it made me recall all that "we", fans of this saga, have been through to reach the point we are at... and I felt it left room for it to really -end-. Summing up: I believe in the future we will see TLJ totally different from the way we are seeing now, in the greater context and it's place in a broader 9 story saga. But for the time beeing... I can totally understand people freaking out and getting angry about it. To them I say: let the world burn...

    I have conflicting emotions!!!

...I agree with so much in this thread. Your reactions are spot on if you ask me.

My greatest fear before seeing the film was that the meaning of the title would be catastrophic, but it was actually comforting. In that regard, I am at peace.

    In all other areas: AAAAAHHHHH

Some people criticize us who say - go watch it at least twice - but it's true. Watching it for the first time it's too shocking. It not only deconstructs characters, the Force mythology, but also us, fans, too. After all of those years, we all had some kind of expectations. And then TLJ completely shatters them, and rebuilds them anew. First time watching is all about shock. The second time is all about feelings. This time, I knew what to expect, and all I needed was to try to understand it all, give it a chance and ultimately feel what every character felt. And it all fits perfectly.

I'm young, only 23 years old, but I never saw this type of movie in my life, where I needed two times to see it to even begin to grasp it's concepts. And I love that it was a Star Wars movie.
