SPECULATION THE LAST JEDI SOUNDTRACK

I just found ROTS-stuff in Track Nr. 1 at minute 6:15!

 

Very early and very, very general thoughts on the score after one viewing and two full listens to the soundtrack:

In general, I put it in the same tier as TFA: solid, but far from the greatness of PT music. It lacks in the theme department (nothing nearly as strong as Rey's theme this time) but I feel like the proper, overall score is better than TFA.

I will definitely go into details when everything sinks in.

 

i have no ear for music, so i can't contribute much to this discussion, but i do really love that part in "The Spark" ~ that little theme that bleeds into the Han/Leia theme (it's about 56 seconds in).

i'm still listening to the rest of it, which currently feels kinda heavy to me. i don't know how else to describe it.
it's not something i necessarily want to listen to when i am working because of the intensity, unfortunately.

definitely don't care for the Canto Bight track ~ hahahaha

 

At least its better than "poon jabba" from TFA! Lol

I just finished listening to the whole original score on Spotify. For me, it's a really great soundtrack by itself but it didn't really fit well with the movie. I think this is really due to the fact that there were sequences that were cut which already has full John Williams music ( said by Rian Johnson himself ). The soundtrack doesn't feel complete because of the cuts, which is a total shame. In other words, John Williams' complete work and vision for this film was cut to serve the movie but it didn't happen the other way around. I'll watch it again to see if it fits with me better, but I have no doubt that John Williams did an amazing job.

My only wish is for the music and the movie to integrate better, but I largely blame this due to the cuts.

 

I have been listening to this soundtrack now for a few days, and I love it. Although it's probably his weakest score for all the star wars films, it's just really enjoyable . I think it's because of how Mr Williams has interwoven the old music and themes into the new stuff . It's Star wars, through and through. Please score the next one Mr Williams!

 

I enjoyed it a lot when I noticed it, if that makes sense. Wish I'd noticed it more. Reys theme in TFA is a wonder and nothing grabbed me like that- even though I really enjoyed it.

 

The spark is classic John Williams at his best. I don't know what people was talking about saying they didn't notice the score while they were watching it. I could hear it loud and clear, all the way through.

 

The Spark is probably my favourite track in the whole of Star Wars for now. It screams legendary, for a legend as great as Luke Skywalker. That build up from 2:15 though!!

 

I'd say it's a better Soundtrack than TFA!

 

I remember leaving the theater after my first viewing of the TFA and asking my friend why there was so little music. Obviously I heard it in full effect on subsequent viewings. Same thing for with TLJ, I think I get so absorbed that I tune it out on first watch. So I can relate to those that say it. Anyway, music themes in Star Wars are simply amazing in all the movies, love them.

 

I absolutely loved the music! SO much in fact that I decided to make a more hopeful arrangement of the dark side themes for Vader and Kylo Ren. Check it out below!

 

The soundtrack for TFA and TLJ are pretty good. The new themes for this sequel trilogy I really enjoy, especially Rey and Kylo themes.

I think it's great! The only thing I was a little dissapointed by the first time I saw it was that it didn't have as many new themes as Empire Strikes back had compared to A New Hope, or even TFA. But I love how he uses the themes from TFA and the OT, and the action-music is pretty damn cool. Rose's theme (don't know what it's called) is a good new addition I think. I have been listening to the entire score on spotify many times now, and I think I the music in both TLJ and TFA has a complexity to them that IMO makes it stand out as some of JW's best work.

 

That "little theme" is Luke and Leia's theme from RotJ. But granted, I think it appears just twice there, so it's quite easy to overlook if you're not into music that much. Anyway, if you like it, check out the RotJ arrangement.

Listened to TLJ OST in its entirety well over 10 times so far. Hope to share some detailed thoughts soon!
