Stil wondering why they didn't show Finn in action. A glimpse of some cool fight scene. I mean cmon, you promoted this guy as the co-lead in the previous movie. Atleast have some sensitivity.

Because the point of this trailer wasn't to be "OMG HYPE MEMBER THIS OH I MEMBER" in nature. It was meant to vaguely tease the direction that the story is headed. And from the looks of things, the lion's share of the footage shown is stuff that happens in Act One. It's structurally similar to the TFA Celebration trailer (which was all about nostalgia and hype), but the intent is completely different - it emphasizes the tension of the situation.

I don't thin Finn's going to be co-lead anymore, man. The teaser poster kind of hints at it, too. The TFA poster has Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren and Han- four of the most important characters in the movie. TLJ's teaser poster only has three- Luke, Rey and Ren

Except they've already established that the movie was rewritten in part to greatly expand upon the parts of the three leads from the previous film - Finn, Poe, and Rey.

From the sound of things, pretty much every character we've already met is going to be expanded upon, and the new characters - aside from Rose - are not as huge players in the plot as some are speculating.

No, I agree. I just think that there is going to three separate threads of plot- one for each of the new "trio"- Poe, Finn and Rey. And each one of them will have their own foil- Holdo(?) for Poe, Phasma for Finn and Kylo Ren for Rey.

However, I don't think that all the threads will be equally important or given equal amounts of screen time. The Rey/Luke/Kylo Ren plot line will be explored the most and expanded on the most.

I'm sorry, as you can already see from the trailer, and if you listen to the panel as well, the movie will have a bipartite structure. One part of the narrative will follow Finn, with Rose and Poe adjoining. The other part of the narrative will follow Rey, with Luke adjoining.

As in TFA the plot is still structured around Rey and Finn. :)

Is it me or does Kylo actually look less dark in this poster. His eyes seem soft and confused, like he lost a puppy to Snoke and wants it back.

I agree. People are hooking onto it. Non-SW fans and the just-movie-watchers all seem to have the same "Its stupid" or "how are they gonna make movies now" comment. But they are still talking about it. GO MARKETING TEAM!
As far as being a SW fan, I think its not the end of the Jedi but maybe an end to being one-sided, JEDI=LIGHT SIDE stuff. Even Yoda had to address his dark side in order to be given the gift of the afterlife, in The Clone Wars TV series. This is great, I like that Luke said it. The Jedi, especially the Council, were becoming blinded prior to their fall, as seen in the request made to Quinlan Vos by the Council to assassinate Dooku in the Dark Discipline Book. I think being one sided can make you more prone to fall to the other side. Anakin alone could have benefited from recognition and training of the Dark side in combination with the Light. He might have been able to better defend himself from Palpatine's advances.

Just speculation and fun. A friend of mine and I were talking this evening and he made a comment about the "time for the jedi to end" line. He thinks Luke is testing Rey much like Yoda did to him. His theory at this moment is that line is at the beginning of the film and Luke is pretending to be someone else. Makes sense to me.

I certainly can go along with idea that Luke is testing her. Either that or it will be Rey's job to convince Luke that he must continue training Jedi.

Did anyone offer any thoughts/speculation as to why Luke's image is so much more prominent than Kylo's? Usually when you do a split screen the faces are side by side and of equal proportion. I wonder what the significance is of the disparate sizes

The balance. It's so much bigger.

I think it's also to visually demonstrate that Kylo Ren is no Luke Skywalker in the grand scheme of things, no matter how gifted he may be in the Force. They are not equals.

It's inversely proportional to the lines of text they have in the movie.

I wouldn't read so many meanings in that choice. It's a merely aesthetical choice: splitting the faces in two equal portions would have been kinda boring. In this way there's more dynamism and variety, and the image is more interesting.

I would think they were more focused on/interested in providing some symbolism than just creating a visually varied image. But at the end of the day I guess is is just a teaser poster. I'd still wager money that there was intended symbolism.

The proportion symbolizes master and apprentice. Furthermore it would look pretty silly if they are the same size.
