NOTE: I am a prequel and original trilogy fan and I am not THIS is not bashing the prequels just lending thoughts.

    OK!

    Hello Everyone,

One of the things that I was not to excited about in the prequel trilogy was the TECHNOLOGY aspect. Yes, one could say that there is nearly a 40 year separation between the two films. However, I believe that if they are going to do this PREQUEL right they need to have the look of STAR WARS "A NEW HOPE".

What do I mean by technology? In the original STAR WARS there was the SIMPLE classic buttons, levers and switches from that era taken to an up-scaled futuristic level. As time passed of course technology in our society advanced but it didn't need to advance on screen and especially for the SW look and for a prequel film. The original trilogy had generic buttons, switches. levers digital old school clocks and other common devices (targeting computers that have the look of an old computer, you know the ATARI look) where the prequels had the computer screens of today to include touch screens, and monitors with (current APPLE computers) looking aspects.

So, I can only hope they incorporate the look of "A New Hope" in "Rogue One" and not just for Technology but clothing and other aspects as well.

Wouldn't it be cool to see the old targeting computers on the X-Wings in Rogue One?

    Two words...: PRACTICAL. EFFECTS.

Really though, technologically speaking, I think what Lucas was trying to go for was how modern and sleek the old republic was, but then, with the fall of the republic, all of the resources were eaten up by the empire, causing the rebel alliance to be forced to rely on broken/DIY technology, which is the reason for the drastic looks between trilogies. Maybe one of the spinoffs could explore this further.

Agreed 100%. I'd love to see the old targeting computers. A modern look would contradict ANH.

Exactly, I love the old technology that made the original trilogy more rugged and old school looking

I do believe we will see this in R1. Even looking at some of TFAs pictures w/Gen Hux, some of the computers and systems around him look to have this same type of feel, so It makes perfect sense that they would do it for R1, after all PRACTICAL EFFECTS!!

Ya, I have been seeing some cool stuff, old school stuff but I just don't want PT like technology.
I like the PT and am not a basher but it was just to darn clean and the TECH was way ahead of ANH

My thought on the entire "Rogue One" situation, i am not sure that it is really necessary to even do a movie like this.

It provides a great opportunity to expand the universe from the ANH time period with additional insight into ANH worlds and vehicles and hopefully a good story.

The prequels had such a bad rep, also does this story really need to be told? If we want to expand the franchise shouldn't we go forward instead of backwards? However, i dont mind them doing a backstory on Han Solo, but that makes sense. I just don't think that this is necessary unless they are setting up this group for later or is this it?

I think sidewards would be more like it. One of my all time favorite Star Wars scenes is the liftoff of the Rebel fighters at the Yavin IV base. Who are these guys? What made them join the Alliance? How do they deal with the prospect that they will die in battle? What made them decide that fighting for the Alliance's cause is worth risking your life?

This is storytelling potential I for one would love to see used. In the Original Trilogy we only got to see the "big picture" with the focus on the main protagonists, but I'd love to see how the average "John D." feels and deals with the situation.

On the other hand, we are looking at the prospect that the current "canon" (i.e. how Princess Leia got the Death Star plans), laid out in the 1977 "Lucas Notes" (hardcover edition of The Making of SW) and in Brian Daley's Radio drama becomes redundant by December 2016, which is not really the part I'm looking forward to.

Back to the OT for a moment here, I'd like to look things like they did in ANH, e.g. Star Destroyer bridges looking like the one of Devastator and Imperial officers wearing single-lined rank plaques (which is currently one of the things I'm not too happy about in Rebels).

Here is Verizon Commercial featuring Chewie, BB-8, a mouse droid and several stormtroopers from TFA.

One poster suggested that the actual set might actually be from Rogue One!!!

I reluctantly have to concur. The console booth and the Star Destroyer windows seen to the right near the end of the commercial feature almost the exact same type and style of elements seen aboard the Star Destroyer bridges in ESB (while the corridor itself is very reminiscent of a Star Destroyer corridor in Rebels, modelled after the Death Star corridor seen in The Holiday Special where the deleted scene between Vader and Commander Number One was redubbed and now took place on a Star Destroyer).

I say "reluctantly" because I had hoped that Rogue One would rather mimick the ANH console panel style (i.e. more light domes and less light slots).

Holy cow, you are right............................. that would make sense

why didn't I think of that

    BRAVO!!

for real, why on earth would they spend all that money to create that type of practical set without a use for it.

    YOU ROCK!!!

I can't claim the laurels here because another poster, unknown to me, mentioned it first. But like I said, the set style from the commercial looks too ESB & ROJ in style making me wish that the new Imperial Star Destroyer in TFA was some prototype by the time of ROJ and still in use 29 years later.

The corridor is ANH compliant (going by the Holiday Special and the assumption that the habitable interior of the Death Star were Star Destroyer building components), but the actual console booth should have looked more something like the one from the Death Star and in red, IMHO (see early Star Destroyer Bridge prototype from ESB attached, the Empire of Dreams documentary reveals that the master console was originally red like in ANH before it got repainted in grey).

P.S. Latest TFA TV trailer shows First Order corridor that's quite different from the set we are discussing here, yet, it appears the scene could take place at Starkiller base.

Defiantly looking forward to all those classic set designs making a comeback hopefully we will see X wing, Y wing & Tie Fighter cockpits again as they have held up so well when re watching ANH
