That would make him "legendary" among his people. It would also make sense as to why Dave Filoni was if the Darksaber came into play again.

I think its the most reasonable way to introduce a lightsaber in Mando. It would/will be epic to see the Dark Saber in live action for the first time.

It would also give Disney a reason to make a Darksaber electronic lighsaber and FX. :)

I enjoyed it more than anything else I've seen from Disney so far. Put me in the camp of let's see where it goes, but it was good. I've watched it twice now and appreciated it more the second time.

There were a few minor negatives or questions from me:
    1. The first alien was about as Star Trek as a character could be. It was pretty jarring.
    2. Was this the first official toilet in Star Wars film/tv?
    3. We didn't really get an explanation as to why the main character is using carbon freezing for bounty hunting. Did Vader and Boba Fett start a trend?
    4. I hope that isn't the end of IG-11, as it was a great character
    5. The western homage was too obvious in a couple of places, particularly the "breaking" the mount scene

Granted the above is nitpicking, but they were questions/concerns I had, particularly with the first viewing.

Just my opinion, but you should watch the episode before coming in here and spoiling it for yourself.

I agree with those of you who enjoyed it even more on the second viewing. Just re-watched the first chapter myself and I must say I absolutely love it.

The production value is extremely good. It's visually stunning, the soundtrack is amazing, the storyline is promising and the most important thing - it truly feels like Star Wars due to it being so true to the original trilogy in terms of pacing, world building, old-school effects, goofy humour, witty dry dialogue and the overall feel. Also so many nods to the original movies in the details; love it. Funnily enough, I have a feeling that because of all that the show is going to appeal more to the somewhat older Star Wars fans who grew up watching the original trilogy whereas the younger generations might struggle a bit with it. Old spaghetti westerns are definitely a huge influence as well stylistically; it's gritty, fun and engaging.

The ending of the first episode...I know the spoilers are allowed here but I still feel uncomfortable doing that. Anyway; I feel the reveal is going to have MASSIVE implications for the show and for the whole Star Wars universe.

A short summary of my first impressions: it's a visually stunning space western in a Star Wars universe with cool characters, engaging story, good action and amazing musical score. It somehow manages to capture the essence of both the prequels and the original trilogy, all while keeping it completely new and fresh. This is Star Wars I fell in love with!

I'm so so happy they made it happen.

For 3: No need to explain it. For those that have seen Star Wars you know it's a way to transport people. For people who haven't seen Star Wars, there was a bounty walking around, being nosey and trying to escape. Now he's not.

Just subscribed to Disney+ and watched episode one. My first reaction.. wow. I am a convert to The Mandolorian. I have always admired the Mandos, and found their lore to be second in interest only to the Jedi and Sith. Now seeing at last the Mandalorians in live action, I am tempted to hang my Jedi cape up and don the Mando Mask (House Kryze!).

Every frame was a delight. The first time in SW production I did not want to get to certain moment: a duel, famous meeting, major ground battle or dogfight. I was throughly enthralled every second.

    Some highlights to mention were:

    -Carbonite Bounties
So Vader and Boba’s ESB method of carbon freezing Han has caught on.
    -O.K. Corral Blaster Fight
Mando and IG-11 fight an overwhelming force and commandeer a blaster canon to open the door to the target.
    - Kuill, I have Spoken Alien
Nick Nolte steals every scene he’s in despite an alien face. Proving aliens can be loved and could be a primary character.
    -Mandalorian Clan/Tribe and Insignia
Seeing the Mando Clan and our protagonist getting a new shoulder plate was a nice touch. Oh and to see the Mando Isignia/Symbol was a treat!
    -Baby Yoda Creature
Intriguing to see the race of Yoda as a babe. In TPM we had s non-speaking Yaddle and in KOTOR Vandar Tokare, so Yoda hasn’t be the only green whatever he is.
-The Mando isn’t perfect. He’s bad to the bone and a deadshot, but he needs help from time to time, making him relatable and not omnipotent.

I want to say I loved wvery second of this episode and lest you think this praise is cheap, I actually expected The Mandalorian to be boring or ok. I frankly did not like “Solo” and I feared Mando would be like It.

Really? I thought this was the only technical part of the episode that was weak...

Still my favorite non JW composer is Michael Giacchino and his work in R1...

I thought t the music was great. I am glad it did not rehash Williams’ scores.

I'll likely get around to writing more eventually, but for now...

    I LOVED IT!

I've been waiting for a true-blue Star Wars space western since 1984, and boy do I have it in spades now!

    Cheers,
    Jayson

IG-11 said his instructions were specific, and the subject MUST be terminated, so did Werner Herzog give IG-11 slightly different instructions, or did someone else hire IG-11? WH only told the Mandalorian that proof of termination was acceptable at a lower rate, not that it MUST be terminated.

I do believe Baby Yoda is force sensitive. At the very end the cradle is floating. Did Werner Herzog crew want Baby Yoda because they need Force sensitive beings to ultimately raise up Palpatine? That is one of the theories for TROS that the Emperor comes back by drawing on the Force through other Force sensitive beings. Since Herzog was ok, but doesnt prefer, with dead baby Yoda does that still make sense or could essence of Emperor still draw from recently deceased Force sensitive being.

A lot of things float in Star Wars so it's difficult to know if it's by design.
Some very clever person has noticed a patch on the doctor's uniform...

Seems like cloning science is going to play a part in the story.

Random thought: We learn that Yoda's species is called the Whills.

There's precedence for using older abandon names and concepts in new and different ways-- Utapau, Mace Windu, Starkiller-- so why not the Whills for Yoda's species?
