Who said Werner Herzog hired him? There could be more than one group hunting for this "child."

So I've seen it three times now, and it does get better with each additional viewing. Just some thoughts (some of which I might have mentioned already but I'm in fanboy heaven right now):
    1. I LOVE the western aesthetic. I love westerns as a genre and I love that they are REALLY working to bring out that aspect of Star Wars.
    2. Music. It was appropriate, and thus I loved it. No John Williams bombastic soundtrack here, which wouldn't feel right. There were even a few notes that were reminiscent of Ennio Morricone's work on the Dollars Trilogy...
    3. Speaking of which, I loved the set for the final showdown. VERY much reminded me of the Dollars Trilogy, especially For a Fist Full of Dollars (which if you've never seen you really ought to).
    4. Speaking of that, Nick Nolte's character, in look and attitude, reminded me of the bar keep who helps Clint Eastwood (the man with no name) out in Dollars.
    5. It appears both Jon and Dave are H.U.G.E. fans of the Holiday special. There were some cool call backs to it (life day, the Mando's tuning fork rifle thingy).
    6. Aliens.... YES! They look like Star Wars aliens (except one but that's ok).
    7. Production values are high which is good. I think we all have come to expect that from Star Wars, and even if someone didn't like the episode, I don't think you can criticize the production quality.
    8. Dave Filoni, take a bow son. Take a freakin bow. Some doubted he could do live action, but I think we see the man knows his stuff. Good performances out of all of the actors (why the hell doesn't Carl Weathers get more work, and how is that man 70???? He looks younger than me and I'm 20 years younger at least!!!)
    9. Jon Favreau. I had a doubt or two, but I figured he'd deliver, and like Dave, he should take a bow. Great job Jon.
    10. LFL/Disney. I've been a harsh critic of what you've done lately. @DailyPlunge Can attest to that. But I'd like to think I'm fair, and I have to say "BRAVO!" If this is what the future of Star Wars looks like, you can count me in.

I could go on an on, but I'll stop here. I will say, I hope the episodes going forward are longer. That's probably my only gripe. Well, that and the blue guy. Someone mentioned he felt like he belonged in Star Trek... I agree with that. He took me out of the "suspension of disbelief" for a moment or two, but then I was good.

VERY VERY interesting. There was a story about a month ago, maybe less that said there would be something in the Mandalorian that ties into the ST. At least I think there was a story that said something to that effect.

We also know George did advice JJ and Jon F. This could be very interesting indeed.

    1. I liked that they made it clear that the Mando has issues with droids. Then, in brief flashbacks, you see that he and his family were either attacked by droids or were caught up in their fighting. He obviously wasn't happy to see IG-11 and only worked with it when he had to. And then shot it no problem. Hopefully IG-11 comes back.
    2. In addition to showing why he didn't like droids, you also find out that he was an orphan (or "foundling"). His people and their dress didn't look familiar to me, so I don't think he grew up a Mandalorian. Star Wars Explained somewhat pointed this out, but it seems like the Mando may be trying extra hard to be an "ideal" Mandalorian instead of himself.
    3. Similarly, Kuill the Ugnaught (spelling?) got the Mando to try riding that reptile thing again by saying that other Mandalorians used to ride mythosaurs. Basically saying "you're a not a real Mandalorian" if you can't even handle this.
    4. Apparently there's a Boba Fett looking character in the underground lair that the Mandalorians have.
    5. I thought that the first blue alien bounty sounded familiar. Apparently that is Horatio Sanz.
    6. That's the first live-action bathroom we've seen in Star Wars.
    7. The Trandoshans (Bossk people) overheard Carl Weathers give the Mando that off the book job. I'm assuming they'll be coming after the Mando and his bounty in the next Chapter.
    8. I want to know more about the Mandalorian forger.
    9. Why are the Mandalorians in the sewers?
    10. Who ordered the IG-11 unit to kill the baby?
    11. Finally, why does that scientist want that baby? Also, why was that baby in that location and did those pirates know what they had?

I posted that on a different forum, but wanted to share here as well.

Baze and Chirrut from Rogue One were Guardians of the Whills, so would that mean the Death Star blast on Jedah killed a bunch of baby Yodas they were taking care of?

Wife saw the episode and definitely fell in love with baby Yoda.

    Other than that-

People have been talking about why two bounty hunters (Mando and IG-11) were both on the job, but has anyone mentioned the apparent slew of other bounty hunters that have apparently been tracking this thing? Not only does that imply that a lot of people are after the child, but we might see some familiar faces.

I've seen the episode three times now. I just love it so much!

Seriously, blacksmith lady has one of the coolest character designs in all of Star Wars, and I hope we see more of her.

It's a Star Wars trope and in a show that seems dedicated to Star Wars tropes.....

IG-88 said he was hired by "the guild." So unless there is a different bounty hunter guild, they both got orders from Herzog (I think he is called "The Client."). The Mandalorian's boss (Carl Weathers) says that there aren't as many jobs because people don't want to pay "guild prices" so it seems probable that there is only one official guild...but there could be other groups out there calling themselves a guild, I suppose. But there are almost certainly bounty hunters who don't belong to anything as structured and scrupulous as a guilld and really don't care.

I don't think that Yoda's species is that of the Whills.

That's my point. Just curious who else knows about and wants that kid dead at all costs and why.

I don't either, but who knows. It's just fun to guess about it all and one of the reasons I think releasing the episodes individually was a great choice. Talking about Star Wars between episodes is a huge part of the fun.

Didnt he say he was part of the guild, not hired by the guild.

Only thing that I didnt like and found odd. Mandalorian gets hired by Herzog and he effortlessly heads directly to where Baby Yoda was. Will have to rewatch, but I could have sworn that he was told it was 50 years since last seen. Since Herzog already knew where Baby Yoda was with that tracking device why didnt they just send some troopers to get him. I think this would have started The Mandalorian on a search that would take awhile to find the bounty.

Uhm, I'd have to rewatch it (darn it, not again!) but the guild may or may not be whom "the Client" works for. I think they left it fuzzy as to who hired IG-11 on purpose.

As for the Guild, it is simply a union, not so much an organization that would give orders, I would think. So if you "hire" a bounty hunter you can see if they are part of the guild, which would try and have them uphold certain standards, and work for certain prices (probably in this case to ensure they don't undercut each other). But I don't think either Carl Weathers or Herzog works FOR the guild. Perhaps someone can clear it up by referencing the exact dialogue?

Again, I'd have to watch it again and see what is said exactly.

Palatine Cloned Yoda. But being that he is 50 years old, it is possible that he had this done before he had any of the Jango clones created. Which means that there was a long play at hand. What that is..I guess we will find out.
The capsule that Baby Yoda was in had a style and design of something that would come from Kamino. Plus, back to Dr. Pershing either working at the cloning facility, or being a clone himself is rather interesting.

    You guys make good points.

I was under the impression that Weathers's character at least worked through the guild for the most part. That's why he only had a small offering of jobs for the Mando at first, because guild prices are steep.

As for the fifty years...isn't it the tracking signature that's 50 years old? So maybe someone else has seen Babyoda since the tracking thing was set up? If Herzog really is trying to accommodate the creepy scientist guy with a live Babyoda (though of course it's a complicated business ;)), sending the troopers would probably end in disaster. Maybe it's not so much finding Babyoda that's the problem as it is getting through the ton of Trandoshan guards in the compound?

I should probably stop typing and just go back and find the exact wordings! :D

Another thing how do they get a device on someone to allow them to track them. What was put on baby yoda that was never removed so that a bounty hunter could track them.

I think it was very well done. I mean we are breaking new ground here. The music was the first thing I noticed, different than the movies which is good. I want this to be SW but like nothing we have seen before and so far that is what I think we have gotten.
