But in all seriousness, there is a small level of concern I have for the show that it will fall on nostalgia too often. It's like the scene from Rogue One with Ponda Baba and Dr Evazan...makes sense but feels a bit more out of place than you'd expect and is really just a memberberry

Just a small concern. We'll see how it goes.

It isn't, believe it or not :p

First time was somewhere near the end of Season 3 of Rebels. I believe it may have been the episode Double Agent Droid, but don't quote me on that.
I do get the concern, but I think it balanced the old and new pretty well.

Solo mentioned barbequed Kowakian Monkey Lizard, so it almost makes sense that the kind of place Rio Durant would visit would have that as a part of their cuisine.

As far as IG-11 goes, assassin droids were also pretty commonly used. It's really kinda surprising we haven't seen more of them used by the Empire, really.

I do hope that we don't see too many familiar faces like the good doctor, unless it makes sense. I figure that if the Mando goes rogue on his bounty, he'll probably get a price on his own head, so it's possible that could set the stage for some face offs against some pretty well known mercs.

Could be why it's set after ROTJ (and Empire's End), in fact. Embo, Dengar, Jas, Jeeta, et al. survived Jakku, as far as I remember. Maybe even Mercurial Swift.

Then there's Cobb Vanth still around. Canon might be a little fuzzy on Bossk's death (though it's entirely possible he died on the Khetana), and if IG-88 had other nodal units. And of course, there are always the people who will claim Fett and Cad Bane's deaths haven't been confirmed in canon (I'm definitely guilty of the latter).

So I think it's not only possible, but likely we'll still see some of these characters show up again. It's all too convenient that not only are many arguably still alive by the time the story takes place, but via masks, obscured faces, little previous screentime, or alien makeup could easily be portrayed in live action.

As long as it's reasonable enough, and a bounty's really all it would take, I'm down.

Should be fine as long as they stay focused mostly on the elements that are distinct about this story: the newly post Imperial galaxy; the Mandalorian culture; what it means to this character and his background; the natural conflict that rises from these circumstances.

I’m cool if they sprinkle some nostalgia flavored bacon bits on this salad while doing that. I think this first episode established a decent balance. Looking forward to the rest.

And that is a concern. Or to start focusing on things that are miniscule and never were a big thing too much. I'm thinking of the dice in the Falcon. That was a nice little thing the "super fans" knew about, but were never a big thing. Just a funny homage to the '50s and when George was growing up and his love for cars. But then suddenly we get two films back to back where they are suddenly front and center (or more so than ever) and it felt, to me at least, forced.

I think they did a fantastic job of walking the line and including things without making it feel like "oh sheesh here is ANOTHER piece of fan service." I would expect them to perhaps move away a bit from it now that episode one is done.

The rumor was that the Mando was working on a cold case file so to speak. But in the episode the target is said to be 50 years old, so whomever leaked the thing either had it wrong (slightly) or engaged in some very slight misdirection. Plus they make it out that people (perhaps other bounty hunters) have gone in and failed in their attempts to secure the asset).

Maybe it doesn't have to be a device but rather a biosignature of some kind?

I understand the concern, but to me the callbacks in Mando are fundamentally different than the Ponda Baba/Dr. Evazan thing.

In Mando, so far, it's not actual character cameos. It's species and droid models. To me, that's just part of building a consistent universe. Not to mention, this is only five years post-Jedi, so things shouldn't be too insanely different.

So this was what I picked up on when Herzog (did we even get a character name?) was discussing the terms of the bounty:
The Mandalorian asked for the "chain code" and Herzog said that "we only have the last 4 digits" and then that immediately transitioned into them discussing the target's age being 50 years. I don't remember the exact dialogue but it sounded like the last 4 digits of the chain code told you the age.

So my question is, what is a chain code? Like a social security number? Maybe instead of social security cards you get social security implants when you're born in the GFFA. I'm curious if the tracking device also works off the chain code. I got the sense that the two went hand in hand... you can't track something / someone that you don't know the chain code to. Apparently it can work if you have part of it, it's just more difficult.

But if that were the case, I guess it would be impossible for anyone to really hide at all, which kind of nullifies most plot points of every other SW story previous to this....

The first half felt very nostalgia heavy. Oh look a cantina and a bunch of familiar aliens! Which is fine. It got better as the episode went on. They definitely should focus on the title character and his culture etc because that's where new stuff for this can really be mined.

They did a good job but I think it was a bit heavy in the first bit...it LINGERED on Salacious' brother a bit long...(Ed Sheeran cameo linger) but it's a small concern either way, especially if they keep the overall quality up.

It is fitting that I haven't seen much 'Bombs Falling in Space is a Plot Hole' crowd pointing these things out. lol

I get all that, but it also has to move the galaxy forward or why do it?
That's Solo's biggest hurdle, it doesn't really move the galaxy anywhere. Rogue One struggles there too.

Small issues but issues none the less.

Wait until Gina Carano and Ming-Na Wen show up and kick ass. God forbid they get the drop on the Mandalorian.

The tracking fobs are wonky to me, right now.

Everything else was pretty much spot on.

Just thought of something: Why did the Mando Blacksmith say "TRIBE" instead of "CLAN"?

Am I missing something within Mando culture?
