I can't believe I missed this the first six times...

when Din rips off the mythosaur necklace and tells Cara to give it to the Mandalorians in the covert for the child, this is what Babyoda is doing:

He's holding onto his dad's foot. I don't know why, but that is absurdly touching to me.

Did the Armorer just serve up the Old Republic and it's stories with this line?:
ARMORER: I know of such things. The songs of eons past tell of battles between Mandalore The Great, and an order of sorcerers called Jedi that fought with such powers.
Revan, Malak, Canderous, the Jedi Exile..... the possibilities are endless.

Great episode and great season. I haven't watched any animated Star Wars but am excited that something that seems significant, this darksaber, is making an appearance.

Because I'm a nitpicker, I wish that Moff Gideon's TIE was upside down in the crash. Seeing him cut through the TIE while the hatch was right above him seemed silly. Maybe it was jammed.

I really enjoyed this season and the finale was really good. I think the cherry on top was the Darksaber. Of course it made me think WHAT HAPPENED TO BO-KATAN???

While they seem to be highly explosive in space, in atmosphere we've now seen three people walk away from TIE crashes:

    Finn in TFA
    Kylo Ren in TROS
    Gideon in Mandolorian

Looking at it again, it may be upside down.

To be fair, that TIE in TFA did eventually explode anyway. But, yeah, progress :D

I thought the explanation was that he ejected? Or maybe it wasn't explained at all. I don't have access to the scene right now so I can't verify.

I can confirm that it was upside down, you can see the blasters are at the top of the crashed hull, the bottom of the ship just has a circular-hatch looking design to it, which you can see on the airborne ship too. Plus the actual top hatch has windows on it, remember Mando trying to shoot out the glass. Here's the screenshots to prove it:

I did a little research and the movie doesn't make it clear how they got out of the TIE. There is a canon comic, Poe Dameron #26, which shows that Poe ejected Finn and was later thrown through the front window when it hit the top of a sand dune during its crash. So I wouldn't say that either of them actually walked away from that crash since neither of them were really in it when it crashed.

Arriving late to the party here.

I noticed some arguments on the issue of removing his helmet because "Mandalorians showed their faces to others in the past". Even in our small little planet, we see people living almost naked, or wearing a sheet covering their bodies, or covering their hair with a Payot or with a turban, or covering their heads with a burqa or their faces with a niqab. All for cultural or religious reasons. So the argument "because Mandalorians do this" is just "the Mandalorians *we had seen so far* did that".

I particularly liked the build up in revealing Mando's face. So many teases in previous chapters, which I believe changed the audience from "c'mon dude, you only remove your helmet to eat" to "man, I really respect how strong you stand for what you believe". And this is a strong message for our own world, where people is discriminated in different forms. This is Star Wars in is best form. The OT showed us: Don't judge someone by his/her size, age, race, gender. Now The Mandalorian adds: don't judge someone else's religion and traditions.

Which brings me to my next point. In the ST, when talking about the Jedi's way, we heard more terms like "religion", "sacred texts", etc. Now in The Mandalorian, we head similar words when talking about their way: religion, creed, etc. We're being led to think that the ancient conflict between the Jedi and Mandalore was really a Holy War: a war primarily caused or justified by differences in religion.

OK, but did the Mandalorians who rescued Lil Din try to return him to his own people, as the Armorer tells Din to do with his foundling? Or was this 8-year-old (?) considered strong enough to stand the training in the Fighting Corps?

    I have Questions.

My assumption is that we were witnessing the death of his people (I'm pretty sure his parents got killed at least). My guess is that the Armorer, observing the physical characteristics of Baby Yoda, assumes it would not survive what I am also guessing is a pretty rigorous training for the Fighting Corp. In Lil Din's situation (and in Legends) Mando training begins at like 8 and then they go into the field at like 13. "Foundlings" had always been adopted by whatever clan found them and treated as though they were blood from that point forward.

    Lots of guessing here.

It does make sense that his birth people (whoever they are) might have been being systematically wiped out right there in that flashback so there wasn't another option for Lil Din.

But wow, 8 (or however old Din was) seems pretty tender to me. I know it was a Spartanlike warrior culture, and...I guess the training could have been age-appropriate like simple physical fitness, physical discipline, and basic weapons/weapons safety training.

Still, the mom in me just wants to cuddle that kid after all that trauma, not send him out to fight. But I guess there's always a star war going on, so...

Yeah, they'd kick me out of the tribe pretty quick (or just, you know, kill me) because I'd always be doing that kissy/huggy/TLC mom stuff. :p

"I've been in this fight since I was six years old..." Star Wars has not been shying away from child soldiers, has it?

Also, do you think we'll hear some Mando'a in Season 2? Could be interesting.

As much as I would love to hear it, I don't think it exactly rolls off the tongue which would probably make it difficult to act, but I know bupkis about acting.
