I knew the hyperbole was coming, and man, you guys do not disappoint!

If that is your takeaway, I almost have to believe you are a troll, as you could see the heavy duty production budget on the screen all over the place in this episode- you really are comparing that Krayt Dragon sequence to 2004 Syfy?! Funny.

Timothy Olyphant is well-respected as a good actor for doing exactly what he did in this episode. I think you are expecting Star Wars to be something different than it is- remember, all of this came from Flash Gordon serials as an inspiration.

Omera refers to him as a boy in Chapter Four.

I really enjoyed this episode! The middle was a little slow, but I had a smile on my face the whole time so I guess this episode did something right.

Going over my thoughts in chronological order:
    • Kicking this season off with Mando kicking butt and being a badass was a perfect move. The guitar riff that was playing was glorious.
    • Loved hearing The Mandalorian theme playing full blast as the Razor Crest flew to Tatooine. It really felt like coming home in a way.
    • It was cool seeing Peli Motto again! Her reaction to seeing Baby Yoda was very meta to how we were all feeling.
    • A small thing that I don’t see people talking about enough was how they showed Mando getting over his droid prejudice this time around and letting the pit droids work on the ship. RIP IG-11! :(
    • I’ve never really seen a proper western before (does Back to the Future 3 count?), but I loved the western vibes in this episode.
    • Cobb Vanth is awesome and kudos to Lucasfilm/Favreau/Filoni bringing in an obscure character from a few book interludes. A sheriff type character in Star Wars is a relatively fresh idea, so I especially love the originality of his character. The way they showed his backstory in this episode was awesome too.
    • I loved the reference to the Death Star blowing up (“the second one that is!”)
    • A small thing, but I liked the little Jawa theme from Chapter 2 coming back during their brief appearance in this episode.
    • Don’t have much to say about the middle chunk of the episode; it definitely dragged a little bit.
    • It was really cool learning more about Tusken culture though! They were somewhat humanized, which makes their massacre by the hands of Anakin (and Darth Vader in one of the comics) all the more horrifying.
    • Pretty sure one of the Tuskens were using Toro Calican’s binocs that Mando gave to them in Chapter 5.
    • The scene where they fight against the Krayt Dragon was, well, a blast. The change in aspect ratio was an amazing and subtle detail that made it all the more cinematic.
    • Seeing Cobb and Din fly side by side was amazing.
    • The callback with hitting the Boba Fett jetpack might have been my favorite moment from the episode.
    • It was really cool to finally see the creature that was referenced twice in the original film. (Threepio walked past a Krayt’s bones and Obi-Wan imitated the calls of one.)
    • And Boba is back! That was an awesome yet simple tease at the end. It’s pretty neat that this is our first live-action look at adult Boba’s face (well, other than when that face is on Jango or all of the clones...)
    • Something worth noting is that Din seemed almost cockier in this episode. Just the way he was talking here and doing more badass superhero-esque poses made him seem a little more arrogant since we last saw him.
    • I of course liked all the easter eggs too, but you guys already mentioned them so I’ll leave it at that. :p
Speculation time: I think Boba will be closely following behind Din this season and possibly end up working with Moff Gideon at some point. I think he might get his armor back as soon as next episode if it starts ofd on Tatooine. I think they’ll build towards a showdown between the two most iconic Mandalorian (or “Mandalorian” in Boba’s case) bounty hunters in Season 3. I still believe Gideon is the endgame for this show’s main antagonist. I also think Cobb will end up working with Mando, Greef, and Cara later on and taking the place left by Kuiil and IG-11. Maybe Din will get the Mandalorians to induct him as a true member of their culture where he can get his own set of armor.

I can agree about some of the acting being a little meh, but comparing it to the acting we got in the prequels!? Nobody here is giving stilted/monotone performances and there have been no egregiously bad lines so far. The acting and special effects here are incredibly solid.

Anyway, I think was a very worthy start to the season and I’m just glad to have Din and The Child back in our lives again!

Did they get a soccer ball at the end, out of the Krayt dragon?

Yes, they kicked it over the ‘dragon’s wall but he wouldn’t give it back, and when they kept asking, he ate it. That’s why they were so happy to defeat it. Now, after decades, they can play football again. :D

    “UUUuuuuuooooooUUuooo-Ooohhh-Ooouuuhhh!!”
    - Sandperson, roughly translated this means ‘OK lads, what was the score at half time again, 2-1? It’s been a while.’

More visually impressive. Made the dragon appear larger and more formidable.
The explosion of Jabba's sail barge wounded the Sarlacc, allowing Boba Fett the opportunity to escape. This is the canon answer.
Absolutely nothing suggests that. Cobb Vanth just found the same model of engine that Anakin used in his podracer. Same reason every 3P0 model protocol droid isn't the C3P0 we know and love.

The show isn't perfect but I really don't get any of the negativity and especially can't ever take hyperbole seriously!

Waw so many comments ... I guess today I can write more about my opinion without risking to spoil someone's experience with the first episode.

The episode wasn't revealing much. I watched some interview with Pedro Pascal and I was expecting more. It feels like a filler. But we never know, it might open up some more action and could be an opening to another great episode. Unfortunately we have to wait another week to check that out.
We have seen Boba Fett, is that great?!, who knows, we don't know anything about him after he fall in that Sarlac pit. btw poor Sarlac! Great that Boba is still alive, is he still bounty hunter, criminal and outlaw? or maybe he changed and now is on the bright side? What did he do for the last ... who knows ... 15 years? He looks old.
Cobb Vanth appeared onscreen, great performance, I was really happy with him. I was expecting more from his character though. Maybe they pool some job with the mandalorian in the future. We still have to see. In any case a lovely character!
Mando took the old armor. Still a misery to me. Why did he do that? Cobb Vanth is a good guy, he can put that armor into good use protecting the village. Isn't that worth the old rusty armor? btw what can Mando do with the armor? Keep it in his ship? that makes no sense
The Craith dragon hunt was great :) I was expecting Mando to ride it :) but no such luck so far. Have you seen the Perl, that was big, I wander how much should it cost? Those tuscens were lucky! They should learn to speak ;)
Cobb Vanth has a great speeder bike, a bit of a rocket, a bit of a chair :) nothing get lost on Tatooine :) hey that really looks like a pod racer engine. Leftover from the old times I guess. And I guess it it is really really fast, but we couldn't see it.
We have seen the R5 rusty droid. Hey, this thing is ancient by now, still moving it's old bolts? Maybe Mando will take it as navigator and for small repairs? ( no chance by now! )
Have you seen the pit droids messing up with the vacuum hose? That was funny :) One of them lost it's wrench in the beginning. Those things are worthless :) Imagine having a garage and those are your helpers, woo ... that is trilling.
I end my post with a few thought about the first planet where Mando was, with the fighting club, it remained me about Mylvaine from Dr. Aphra comics. The lower levels of Mylvaine. Yet I doubt that it is the same. Looked really low level with those graffiti. Those red glowing eyes. I was searching for animals, dogs, with red eyes but found nothing so far. I believe these are some new animals which they introduce to Star Wars universe. Definitely these are stray dogs or similar street pack animals which are hunting on the streets at night. Safe neighborhood, ah :) the only people we saw were those in the fighting club, interesting planet. The towers or whatever those were had lights so the planet is inhabitable. The planet must be somewhere in the outer rim, because Mando is working there. But which planet?

At the end : I was so much excited about the season opening, I forgot to say Happy Halloween !

Not at all! The Krayt Dragon looked great, that's my point! It made some of the other stuff (alien costumes/make up, some of the sets, some of the smaller effects) look worse (or syfy-channel-esc) by comparison. Disney have the budget to level up the whole show, not just some chosen sequences. I just want them to get the chequebook out and give every aspect of the show the budget it deserves. There's no reason this show shouldn't (visually) look on par with Solo/Rogue One...or at the very least, Game of Thrones.

Opinions are opinions, but this simply a ludicrous thing to complain about... this series has a huge budget and won pretty much every FX Emmy last year. If you didn't like the episode or characters that's fine, but the production value of this episode and series was incredible for TV.

I couldn't stop thinking about Knights of the Old Republic during the whole Krayt Dragon sequence. From luring out the dragon using banthas, to killing it by laying explosives, to fishing out the pearl. It was a neat homage, even if it was an accidental one.

My money would be on its being not accidental but 100% intentional, given that Dave Filoni is involved... ;)

Fav's & Filoni are two out of the three most SAGA mindful cats in all of Star Wars; with the other being Sam I am Maul.

My only nitpick with this chapter is the Tusken dialog.

The vocalizations, grunts and sounds; outside of what was already known, failed to resonate.

While I rather enjoyed Din being able to speak it; with hand gestures et al, I thought they could have presented it better.

    ***

    Also, how killer was it....

to watch the dragon surge through the sand, just beneath the surface?

They crushed it with that effect.

Kudos to Lucasfilm for keeping part of the plot sequence for the unused Josh Trank film about another bounty hunter killing and stealing Boba Fett's armor. When the concept was first rumored all those years ago, the plot divided a lot of Star Wars fans. While this is not exactly what we got in "The Marshall," the concept was similar and I think Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni killed it - even before Temura Morrison appeared on screen. Temura on screen just gave us the best of both worlds and put the icing on the cake.

The show, for all the other faults I do have with it, looks better than most movies from major studios.

It’s not even a complaint. I actually like the episode. Everything else Disney has done with Star Wars in live action has looked visually impeccable. The Mandalorian simply doesn’t look as good as the movies. It’s not a complaint, it’s a fact/observation. It’s just a shame Disney didn’t give it the little extra, because they could have afford to do it.

Definetly, with shows like this, I like the one chapter per week way. Cause there is a lot to talk, speculate and find. Theories, rumors, information and easter eggs to fill a whole universe. At least in this cantina, full of respectful fans and experts XD, everybody has something interesting to say and we can follow and enjoy it with no hurry.

ANH is my favorite Star Wars film. Every time I watched 3P0 walk by the Krayt Dragon's bones I used to wonder how does that creature really look like? OB1 making the sound of one to scare away the Tuskin Raiders I always wondered, that creature must be fearsome, I would love to see it... Chapter 9 means a lot to me my dream was finally realized and answered after all these years. I saw ANH in a drive-in theater when I was 8 years old...before it was called ANH, it was just Star Wars. Mando Mondays and Fridays are gonna be great to end a horrible year... thanks LFL you saved this holiday season for me that is.

November 27th, Black Friday is when we get the rumored Ahsoka Tano chapter, and if it's an eight-episode season Friday, December 18 is the end of the season episode a week before Christmas. :D

Still not impressed. One shot episode with no story once again.
