Considering the trades reported he was reprising the role of Boba Fett, he was listed as playing the character on his talent agency website, is clearly playing a character younger than 82, and appears in an episode revolving around Boba Fett's armour, it is most certainly Boba Fett. It would make zero narrative sense to tease Boba Fett's survival for a whole episode, and then at the very end show a random clone that is of no relation to anything in the story.
We know Boba Fett scavenged his armour set. Obtained various pieces over time, and modified it to his liking. With Jango Fett there is no concrete answer. It's possible he scavenged it as well, it could be fake (Boba's is the only set of the two confirmed to be made of beskar, durasteel replicas were not uncommon), and Filoni has brought up the possibility that Jango Fett may have even killed a Mandalorian and taken their armour as his own.

@GingerByte I somehow missed The Hollywood Reporter's confirmation that Morrison would be specifically playing Boba.

What are the odds on Vanth 'earning' the armour in Mando's eyes and being gifted it back later in the series for helping out the eponymous character (a la Cara Dune)?

Call me a sceptic (or something worse ;) ), but accepting what the trades and hints are saying, I'm still yet to be 100% convinced that it was Fett at the end of the episode.

Anything is possible, but if it's not Fett it would be remarkably dumb to show a clone with scars on his face on Tatooine in an episode featuring Fett's armor. Time and time again it's safe to assume the easy answer is the correct answer.

Here's my thing. I'm really wondering what Boba is waiting for. When the rumors started about Cobb Vanth, I was thinking we might see Boba fight Vanth over the armor. But what's up with Boba just chilling in the distance? What's his goal? If he just wanted his armor back, wouldn't he have moved in sooner? What's he up to??

I thought the same when I saw him, but then ... I have doubts that he is after the armor. I think he has changed and now is a new man, a man of honor.

Yeah, I agree - it would be extremely dumb if this is just a clone. And btw what would a clone do there? Tatooine is dumb planet, there is nothing there, a sink hole close to the galactic highway. Strategic yes, but without any other value.

I even wander what are those miners doing there. There are no valuable minerals on Tatooine to mine, all of it's minerals are on the surface. And the metals they may acquire are cursed by the twin suns to be worthless. Remember the orbiting station fate.

It isn't "dumb" if it is done for a reason, to reverse expectations or something. The only way it would be dumb for Temuera Morrison to not be portraying Boba Fett in that scene is if they didn't think of it and somehow put TM there by accident despite the heavy Boba Fett foreshadowing going on... and let's face it, they definitelly did not put him there by accident! ;)

So no, whomever TM is playing in that shot, it is definitelly not dumb. These people aren't idiots, after all.

That said... It is OBVIOUSLY Boba Fett! ;)

They're just snack bites for my super-little, green friend.

They missed a chance to one up AotC's cow surf... baby Yoda should have strolled on over, waved his claws and rode that masiff around the Tusken camp like a wild Taun Taun on deathsticks.

I was wondering the same thing. In fact, I was kind of surprised Mando demanded the armor back, rather than giving Vanth an opportunity to earn it (or, in seeing how Vanth was willing to fight for the town, seeing that as said opportunity)

A big takeaway from season 1 was that Mandalorian was a Way, not a race or nationality. Why then did Mando seemingly not even consider Vanth as a potential brother?

maybe because the armor looks to be about 2 sizes too small for Vanth?

We don't know a whole lot about Mando's "Way," which seems to have way more quirks than the Mandos we've been used to. But it seems like the armor is somehow sacred, and from Din's point of view, can't be worn by a "casual." I think for Vanth to earn the armor, he'd have to do more than just be a nice and honest guy. He'd have to understand all the tenets of the Way and then swear the creed. And maybe you have to be ordained or something to administer the oath, so Din can't just say, "Here ya go, you seem like a good guy." :p

I think maybe if Vanth had shown some interest in being a Mandalorian, we might have gotten some more clarification, but he just pretty much seemed interested in being the marshal of Mos Pelgo.

Could be as simple as having an Armorer recite the Jet Pack Creed and one other Mandalorian witness to enroll.

That's fair. I suppose I conveniently oversimplified the "way".

And I'm not necessarily saying Fett should've anointed him a Mandalorian then and there, but it seems strange that he didn't even offer the path- especially given how he himself was once given that opportunity (though I suppose we don't know a lot about Djarin's life at that time either, and maybe he'd had to take a more hands on role).

    That being said...

I think it's most likely that the titular Mandalorian is Djarin. I think it would also be clever for it to refer to The Child as well.

But what if it also refers to Vanth, and his path to The Way? Or even Fett, and his reclamation or revocation of it? Could be an interesting path for the story to take, even (especially) if the focus remains on Djarin.
