THE MANDALORIAN S2E2 (CH. 10)

That makes sense. I'm puzzled about where Mando got the money for the last two episodes.

 

The first episode of season 2 started with Mando killing someone in a merciless and badass way. The second episode had the same start. I kinda want that to be a thing for every episode. Haha!

 

This episode was certainly something else! There were a lot of quiet moments ... almost too slow ... but just when I wondered why we'd slowed down so much after the crash landing, things went from zero to one hundred in a blink of an eye. I don't get freaked out by movie scenes very often, but the spider scene was horrifying. It was about as intense as anything I've seen in SW.

There was some flimsy storytelling, as well. Like how he can always fly the Razor Crest even after it's been trashed. Even with giant holes all over the hull and take it into outer space. But I'm OK with that, as I haven't noticed too much of it throughout the series.

I continue to be a fan of Peli Motto. Loved the rewiring of Zero stunt, the spider callback to Rebels and having New Republic "cops" attempting to pull the Mando over (though I'm not sure why he ran). The fact there have been so many different directors has really gone a long way to giving each episode its own unique feel -- yet they all fit comfortably within the overarching story. I'm so happy with what Filoni and Favreau are doing!!!!

 

Have we seen most of the footage from the trailers already?

 

Fun episode just wish there was more meat to the bones. we're 1/4 the way through the season and the plot hasn't really moved forward yet. I have a bad feeling that like we're only going to have 2 episodes will carry the weight.

 

We also haven't seen the Greef and Cara (+mythral) stuff.

 

There's still the footage of a ship burning up as it goes into the atmosphere, and whatever the throat singers are from (if they're part of the show and not just trailer music). There's also footage that is likely with the Greef/Cara chapters: bike/scout troopers, stormtroopers in an Imperial ship hallway, TIE fighters (Moff Gideon's?) taking off...

 

I might have cheated and gone back to watch them.

Spoiler: Mr. Frog alive?

Frog Lady (with her spawn tank) is depicted in the trailer, walking ahead of Mando on the docks with all the Quarrens. Walking beside her is what looks like a male (?) Frog-person.

The Adventures of Baby Yoda!

 

I really appreciate how the trailer was able to get us excited for Mando, while still obscuring a huge amount of the season.

Wish more movies did that. We can pretty confidently identify not only every planet in a Star Wars movie before release, but even the order in which they're visited.

 

You know what the narrative is going to be though, right? "Oh my gawd, they've shown nothing! Do they know it's bad!?"

 

That's soo cool Glad that you found this frame so there is a chance for this species ( I think I see eggs in the canister )

I hope on that planet they have a good hangar to fix the Crest, it's looking like a piece of scrap recently. It's been a beautiful ship don't know how this happened.

If I remember the trailer correctly there are some interesting things to happen, involving the Moff and the imperial transport and some bikers. It's too early to judge for the season.

 

My rewatch has been making me think about Babyoda eating those eggs... Yes, the episode plays it up for laughs, but even though I did laugh (especially that last time), I felt uncomfortable about it somewhere underneath all that. Yes, SW has done that to me in the past, but I think this time there is intentionality behind it.

The way Mrs. Frog is so desperate to get to Mr. Frog and to protect her eggs (we'll pretend she actually kept them in her sight the whole time) that she'll go no questions asked with a complete stranger to travel there, the way that we're told they're her last chance to keep her family line alive... Even, strangely, the way she shoots the spiders attacking Babyoda (WHERE did she get that gun) even though her hand is shaking the whole time... My heart goes out to Mrs. Frog.

Babyoda, however innocently he's doing it, is really wronging her by stealing and eating her eggs.

So why is the show so deliberately making us uncomfortable by having the Child do this?

I'm still not sure, honestly. But maybe it's not only reminding us that Din needs to really buckle down and take this child rearing seriously--especially the moral parts--but also reminding us that most of what Baby has seen in the time he's been with Din is killing...so why should a little egg-eating worry him? If killing is normal for him, what harm could passively eating pre-life eggs do? But what's next? He's already killed a flame trooper (admittedly in self-defense, but...) and tried to strangle Cara...

There's more to the egg imagery too--it represents the feminine as well as life, and Din has been fighting the softer side of himself for a while now. It's disturbing to see Baby Yoda imitate that inclination--eating the eggs and symbolically just devouring whole that rejection of the feminine.

Sorry that was kind of rambly... I don't have a real conclusion, but it will be interesting to see where all this goes this season!

 

That's what I'd like to know. I was pretty disturbed by the Child chowing down on the offspring of a sentient being. It really put me off the episode. I certainly won't be looking at the Child the same way from now on.
