Well, there have been 10 episodes so this is easy. 4 of them have involved defeating a big monster of some sort, so that is 40%. although only 3 of them had that as the main plot, so let's say 35%.

So here are a few more screenshots I took.

As we spoke already this guy is the same type as Scrapjaw Motito, but I doubt that this is the same dude, mostly because he died and the one on Jakku will appear 25 years later. Also this one seems to be the sniper of the group. if that riffle is a sniper and not a heavy riffle or a breach gun.

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Scrapjaw_Motito

    Screenshot_2020-11-06_14-19-05.png

The fight scene, Mando is already down expecting the riffle to hit any moment.

    Screenshot_2020-11-06_14-19-26.png

The riffle. In my opinion this is a sniper of some sort. Maybe the tubular device on the side is a scope linked to the eyes of that guy.

While I didn't really expect it (tho in hindsight perhaps I should have) I've more or less accepted this as the show's MO. And I really don't have any problems with it.

If 90% of this show is Mando and his kid exploring the galaxy, saving a town here, killing a monster there, completing task by task and levelling up along the way, I'm all for it. The world-building has been amazing so far. Plenty of nods to existing canon and tie-ins along the way, and they are establishing new canon as they go. Personally I'm fine if we never see Boba Fett in this series again. If all that cameo did was to confirm his survival and pave a way for the rumored Fett series, that was enough.

After a season or two Rebels found its groove and was able to stick with an identity. I had problems with staying focused on the TCW, as there was just too much going on and honestly probably only 20% of the show mattered to the overall plot? maybe? but again, that show did wonders for expanding the galaxy so I have no issues with it. This just seems to be the way that Filoni prefers to operate... cast a wide net, hit on a lot of little things, and then at times focus on something big and important to overall SW plotline (Maul in TCW and Rebels / Darksaber and Jedi/Mando history in Mandalorian).

Some wild guess, the planet that we saw in ch.9 with the graffiti is Khubeaie. It's conveniently close to Tatooine and is matching the description.

And the frozen world in ch.10 might be one of the Vactooine moons. And the ocean planet from the trailer can well be Tarnoonga.

At least on the map it is somewhat fitting. And Peli Motto said it is just one sector.

Or it might be in the Gedi system as it is made of five gas giants and Peli said the frogman is settled near one gas giant. Then the frozen world will be a moon to some of those gas giants.

By main plot, you mean main plot of the series?

What's wrong with that? that's how sci-fi shows how worked for decades each week is its own little adventure that doesn't necessarily connect to the main plot. Personally, I quite like it, I get the frustration that people want answers to everything now, but even if this wasn't following the adventure of the week kind of storyline, we still wouldn't be getting answers, That kind of continuous storyline generally takes the plot and stretches out over several years with big reveals only at the end of each series. Also having to constantly continue one storyline generally makes the plot more and more convoluted so that when the answers do come it impossible to make sense of half of the questions, Battlestar Galactica or Lost being prime examples.

To be honest that kind of storytelling has put me off TV in recent years, having to watch years and years of setup just for a convoluted pay off isn't my cup of tea. At least this way we get nice enclosed storylines that can live on their own.

Though I agree they have now done the big alien monster to death now and need to leave that plot alone. But I'm fine with standalone storylines.

IMHO why create a Boba Fett series when the Mandalorian is successful? I know if we have two shows with similar characters people are going to complain about Mando fatigue, it's inevitable. I'm still looking forward to the OB1 and Andor series, for me, Disney is just capitalizing on Mando's popularity. Disney&LFL, stay on track, before you rush to give us a Boba Fett series, release the other series that was announced so long ago.

Sure. There's nothing inherently wrong with it except it keeps *referencing* the main plot every episode as if it's really important but continuously fails to show us it's important.
It needs to just pick a lane. If it wants to just be Baby And Mando's wild adventure, that's fine. It can be great at it. But ditch this overarching plot and just lean into it.
If it wants to have this big story about Mando and what happened to his people etc (what it actually set up in s1) then it needs to do it and actually commit to it.
Right now it comes off as they have a story but it's a very short story so they're stretching it out with these types of episodes.

They're largely fun but they're filler and don't do anything to advance story or character. Which is ultimately my biggest issue with these types of episodes. It's Rogue One as a series and Rogue One doesn't have enough story for this much series and I'm beginning to wonder if Mando doesn't either.

It's a gorgeous show that's well acted enough and knows when to throw the proper amount of nostalgia bombs to keep audiences from drifting off with a well placed "OMG I know that ____(insert thing/place/person)____!"

I feel like it's just flat now. I don't feel obligated to watch it every week like I used to because it's confirming more and more that there's basically a 50% chance the episode is just a time filler because they need to make 8 of them.

If it's working for other people, that's great. I'm happy for you. It's not working for me.

This episode was a lot of fun for me. I feel bad for people who can't enjoy fun serial adventures if it is not the main overarching plot of the story. There will be 3 to 4 seasons of The Mandalorian, so I don't mind that the main plot of keeping the Child away from Moff Gideon is not addressed in every episode. I like the "monster of the week" episodes, it helps character-building and world-building for the show. But everyone has their own opinion on what they want from a series.

RoyleRancor, you seem to be expecting some kind of deep, novel-type aspect of this series. I don't think it was ever intended to give you that. Also, what happened to Mando's people is not the "main plot." Protecting the child and bringing him to his species or home planet or jedi is the main plot.

Probably my least favorite episode yet. Though it's not to say it was bad. It had a theme of parenting that comes across, Din protects Baby Yoda, the frog lady protecting her offspring, and the giant spider protecting her young. I actually didn't pick this up myself but it was the redeeming part of this episode. Only 6 episodes left in season 2 and I feel like we haven't gotten far. Hopefully the remaining episodes don't feel like they are being crammed in, but for me there is a lot to cover and time is running out. I just feel in the first season there was plenty of character chemistry, Greef and Cara are in the trailer yet nowhere to be seen yet. Mystery person with a hood in the streets, all the rumors to date, and what about Moff Gideon and that darksaber. I have faith in Filoni, but I haven't really been impressed by much but the score in season 2, episode 1 was good but I feel like we aren't getting anywhere.

    Dear Bargwill,

Expecting stories to have more than just "guns go pew" and "monster scary" isn't too much to ask for. In fact, it SHOULD be the goal of most shows and I would expect it should be the goal of Star Wars since, ya know, it always was more than that when Lucas made it. Mando is just surface level fluff. It's very pretty and exciting fluff...but just fluff.

No, the child is the task. The plot is who is the Mando and the mysteries set up around him. Everything about how s1 converged in the final episode was about him and his past. Notice how much time was spent developing the Mandalorian society and culture? Yeah, that whole thing with Moff Gideon? That's the plot. That's arc of the show. Taking the child home is just a task, or a subplot. The child could be replaced with let's say.....coaxium. And not much changes.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 9, 2020, Original Post Date: Nov 9, 2020 ---
character building side episodes are fine. if they aren't just stalling. this was a problem is s1 too. They basically had repeat episodes that people defend as "character building" but they introduce nothing new to the characters because we already had these things introduced. we know Mando will protect the baby and has a wicked sense of duty and pride. that isn't new.

A few more screenshots ... just you know to bring some fresh air to the forum ... I think we went tooo deep in the discussion of what is on the plot and what is on the main plot and what is the story about and ... ah ... I guess we have to wait and see it. We can express opinion but we can't change it.

Hehe Mando took one of the steering rods from the bike and is using it to hang his luggage :) cool and funny :)
