But how does the audience infer all that?

I think they are aliens, they have full face masks and rebreathers, those pipes which go to the utility bags. They seems to use vocoders to speak. It is possible that they have a central command somewhere which sends them data.

Exactly. To avoid that general audience is not confused she just agree she is a jedi. Otherwise will be very confusing, she is obviously not sith, she has light sabers, then what is she? Most people will not be aware of the gray jedi, nor they will watch the clone wars, i mean not all 7 seasons :)

I don't agree that people are either Jedi or Sith in the eyes of the audience without a lot of splaining, or bringing grey Jedi into it.

Luke wasn't a Jedi until the end of the third movie he held a lightsaber in.

The audience were told to expect a Jedi two episodes back.

Ahsoka admitting that, in spite of what we were told, she is no longer a member of the Jedi and that she walks her own way wouldn't have confused the audience. Particularly since we've recently been introduced to an alternate faction of Mandalorian who follow a different but not opposing way to Din and his covert/clan.

I expected Din and Ahsoka meeting to prompt them to share their respective belief challenging experiences. But the way the problem with Grogu was negotiated by Ahsoka just made her seem distant and disinterested.

The episode name dropped Grand Admiral freakin' Thawn. They basically said: "hope you've watched Clone Wars and Rebels." I think sometimes we underestimate "general audience". I think people watching The Mandalorian have seen the movies, and maybe even the shows. The simple fact that it's called The Mandalorian, I think it's understood that have you seen most if not all Star Wars content-- at least the TV shows and movies. It's title origins from the Clone Wars, where it first appeared.

Look up some reaction videos on youtube. There's a lot of clueless casuals who haven't seen a single episode of clone wars or rebels or anything star wars besides the films and they don't know how to react to certain things because they don't know if it means something or what. Some feel Bo-Katan and Ahsoka are cool but don't know what to really think and are just whatever about the lore outside the films or they pretend to be excited because they know others are or simply look up pictures from the shows to compare.

Bo-Katan and Ahsoka have made many finally start binging the animated shows or they claim they will

Found it boring. I liked the look of Ahsoka that part was well done. Maybe I missed something but last I saw Ahsoka quit the jedi. Does she consider herself one ?

The fight with Magistrate was also not that great. Will be interesting if they actually incorporate Thrawn. Hopefully not just a one off like Bobo Fetts armor was.

She doesn’t call herself a Jedi, but others do and she doesn’t correct them like she did with Ezra and Vader. Maybe she just got tired of correcting people.

It's not about underestimating. I can give you an example, I have a colleague who is a movie freak, owns a home cinema etc., he is watching everything which is out. Of course he is not going to watch the anime, and not the all 7 seasons. So, he is not really a SW fan, but watched all of the live action movies. He watched The Mandalorian Season 1 and told me, yeah, it's so so, he was not able to understand everything and somehow his experience was spoiled. He is not going to browse internet to read more and to understand it. I call him general audience.

yeah the mandalorian is popular because a bunch of random people had disney+ and thought that some new star wars show was cool and not old like the other movies. They probably dont know the clone wars show exists.

A lot of casuals have heard of the clone wars and rebels animated shows and if they have disney + then they know there are a lot of star wars content that exists on the service alone. Some just don't care enough about at least checking out the clone wars animated film and first show episode or reading an article online or watching videos on YouTube that explains star wars lore.

I understand not caring for animated shows as the art styles from Clone Wars, Rebels and Resistance all turned me off for a while before giving them a chance and I get not wanting to jump into the books, comics and games as they wouldn't know where to jump in but if they are feeling too left out or have issues with the fan service then that's on them and there's simple solutions without binging other content as all it takes is reading a page online or watching a short video about certain lore simply by typing in key words.

Sorry to say but I don't give a darn about the casual audience and sometimes they annoy me! It's been feeling amazing and rewarding to see all these easter eggs, fan service and connecting lore after keeping up with the franchise in multiple ways for most of my life.

Keep bringing it on! I know who and what Ahsoka is and she didn't clarify she wasn't a jedi and certain other things for her own reasons and that's that! I'll let disney and people is charge worry about the casual fans/angry offended social media posters and I'll just be selfishly happy for what satisfies me. The show is already is a success and season 3 is in development so yay yay.

Can you imagine if you went to see a western like Once Upon A Time In The West and the only way you could understand why something in it is important, or why it's rated a 10 by some instead of a 8, is if you had watched several series of Deputy Dawg & Quick Draw Mcgraw. (yes, I'm exaggerating;))

It's worth it and like I said, you don't need to actually watch other stuff. It only takes a couple of minutes to read an article or to watch a video of an overview summary. Star Wars is a franchise with a history over 30 or 40 years that spans across all media. If a casual can only be bothered to watch the films then that's fine but it's on them and sorry about your damn luck because the first star wars live action show like this shouldn't be hindered because of them when the target audience are mostly actual hardcore fans who at least put some kind of effort into knowing the galaxy.

An 8 out of 10 is still good anyway but yeah absolutely fan service and reward passionate fans who actually cares enough to invest even a little. Read a recap about Ahsoka, Clone Wars and Rebels in under 10 minutes or same thing with a video that shows nice little clips and pictures!

If you can't bother with just 10 or so minutes to know some highlights of the lore then just..Shh! Don't be saying any thing or keep asking why. Star Wars by this point has a right to refuse service to any casual fool.

Watching the films is enough to be eligible for the fandome club but don't be expecting premium services!

Awesome episode! Can't tell you how much i loved seeing lightsabres in Star Wars again, don't get me wrong I love the Mandalorian, but my favourite thing about Star Wars is Jedi's and the force(its why I love the prequels so much) so seeing a Jedi back in live-action was incredible and gave me that big kid feeling I get when star wars is at its best.

Think they did a great job with Ahsoka too, she felt like the character we have all grown to love. My only small qualm was her head tails that did look a bit foamy and cheap. But I suppose this is TV, but this is definitely one of those occasions CGI would have been better. But the way she acted talked and fought was spot on. The intro scene was just awesome! loved her interaction with the now Grogu and great to see the Mandalorian reference Thrawn and carry on the story from rebels.

Loved the back story the child. He was at the Jedi temple in the prequels and has a name. Love the idea that he has been suppressing his power too.

Slightly disappointed with the ending, Mando basically has to go and find another Jedi now, think they could have found s stronger way to keep Din Djarin and Grogu together, instead of going go here and another Jedi may turn up and train him as I can't. maybe go into the fact Ahsoka wasn't a Jedi and so couldn't train a Jedi. I guess now they're setting up to bring in Luke or a Yoda force ghost? And they couldn't have kept Ahsoka with Din Djarin and Grogu as it would very quickly have become the Ahsoka Tano show.

Also would say Dave Filoni's live-action direction has come on a lot, was really impressed!

Overall really happy great episode, easily in my top 2 or 3 out of both seasons.

While I don't think will see him this season, the potential of a live action Thrawn makes me giddy! We're seeing live action characters that just a few years ago, I never would've believed you that would happen.

I'm thinking this episode could possibly be used as a backdoor pilot for an Ahsoka show with Thrawn set up as it's villain but I do think he could show up on this show for season 3 or 4 as a guest villain for an episode and then Din crosses over later to Ahsoka's show as a guest star

What was wrong with Ahsoka explaining to Din, "I'm sorry if you've been mislead but I don't walk that way now. I appreciate what you're trying to do but I can't in all conscience train this youngling. Too much has happened since the purge. Since the Empire. I have my own mission now. Can you understand?"

Would have made better sense for any kind of audience, especially in the wake of Din meeting Bo, being told of her mission and that whatever he thought he knew about "the way", well, it ain't necessarily so.

Instead we get Ahsoka telling Din it's basically his fault for denying the imps and trying to deliver Grogu to his own kind in the first place because just doing that has made the child "dangerous". Even for viewers familiar with the prequels (who have no clue that Ahsoka was Anakin's apprentice by the way) the allusion to Vader is weird. Vader turned dangerous because he had nightmarish visions of his secret wife dying in childbirth. How does that fit with Grogu, Din and their little silver bally?

There just seems to be basic strategies in writing ignored here that could have provided a more credible and satisfying way to move the story forward to the point it reaches at the end of the episode.

Yeah, they have to be setting up something with that. The frustrating this is we have no idea when it is going to pay off could be years. But as long as they do it I'm happy.

Personally think the best way to do wit would be a Disney + movie with Ahsoka hunting down Thrawn and Ezra.

Yeah as much as i really loved the episode, I do agree with this, Mando has gone through all this to find Ahsoka, helped her with her mission, it did need a bit more in terms of setting up the next mando quest, it was a bit weak and rushed.

Doesn't take away my love from the episode though, but yeah that element could have been handled better.

I'm in love with Dawson's performance, I can't wait to see more of her in that role. Bring on the Rebels live action sequel...
