So this is the first time we've actually seen Boba Fett fight competently on screen right?

So Dark Troopers are officially canon now.

I liked the obvious hatred Boba had for the stormtroopers, despite standing alongside them in ESB. It evokes the vicious "We are not brothers!" line he had in the Clone Wars, as he blamed the clonetroopers/stormtroopers for helping Mace kill Jango on Geonosis.

The Mandalorian's avoidance of the New Republic has gotten to ridiculous extremes now. Cara Dune is now a New Republic marshal. Yet he wants to break out the sharpshooter criminal, who from what I can tell wouldn't have any idea where Gideon is, to help find Grogu. Why not, I don't know, call up the New Republic via Cara, tell them about Moff Gideon, and enlist New Republic help? Doesn't that have a far greater chance of succeeding?

Another jarring element is that the Mandalorian, a seasoned bounty hunter and member of the Bounty Hunter Guild, seemingly has no idea who Boba Fett is, even by reputation. I'm pretty sure even in Canon Boba Fett was widely known as the best bounty hunter in the galaxy as recently as 5 years before this episode.

    Just finished it. Quick thoughts:
    - Robert Rodriguez!
    - Who did Grogu connect with while meditating on that stone? Is there even a Jedi left?
    - Why did Mando never pick up his jetpack again?
    - Why did Mando not bring his rifle to the temple?
    - Why did Mando again and again attempt to break through the force field? He has shown better situational awareness. And let Fennec and Boba fight by themselves...
    - Again and again, we do not find a Jedi to take care of the kid. Will we ever? Or will this continue through the next season(s)?

Today's episode sets high expectations for next week. But I felt not satisfied at the end of today's episode.

Edit: Additional thought: The title spoilered the episode for me a bit. I assumed the biggest tragedy would be Mando and Grogu become separated.

I suspect with the massive budget, cgi luke will be in the season finale and give some excuse why he can't train Grogu

Short and sweet episode but the twists keep coming. When I saw the title I knew it wasn't gonna be good for our boys.
    - Tython doesn't seem like a very difficult planet to get to.
    - Great dialogue with Mando & Grogu in the opening.
    - Was expecting more of a Ahch-To type seeing stone. Tying it in with Luke's in TLJ.
    - Like how Boba was written. That's the dude we grew up knowing was a bad ass! Fennec is pretty bad too.
    - "I was aiming for the other one." Nice touch of humor.
    - Why didn't Boba just retake his armor from Cobb back on Tatooine? He obviously could've gotten the better of him.
    - I know he was just a kid, but Boba would remember Ahsoka from his showdown with her in The Clone Wars series, right? (On the chance Mando & crew meet up with her down the road.) And is this the first time we've seen Slave 1 since its apparent destruction in The Clone Wars? (In our timeline, not their's.)
    - So Jango was a Foundling too. And he fought in the Mando Civil War ... filling in backstories is always welcome, especially when we don't expect it.
    - They did that to the Razor Crest?!?! Ballsy.
    - Fennec didn't looked too thrilled about helping Mando further, while Boba was a man of honor, being in Mando's debt.
    - Happy to see Mayfeld coming back soon. Looks like it'll be Mando & a crew vs. the New Republic next week.
    - Looking forward to the translators who find easter eggs in Cara's prisoner files.
    - And the big question: Was Grogu's "call" heard?

I wouldn't be so sure about this. Canon Boba was anything but honorable, see Marvel Star Wars (2015) issue 5, where Boba brutally tortures a farmer and then kills him even after the farmer broke under torture and told everything Boba wanted to know. It was clear then that Boba's hatred for Jedi over killing Jango outweighed anything, and I suspect that's still the case now.

Boba may well be "helping" the Mando find Grogu so that he can kill the little green guy personally instead of Gideon doing it.

Running commentary while watching (Runtime: 34 min including intro and everything)
--Intro. Fennec will return. All plotlines converge.
--The Razor Crest looks better now. (Edit: And there’s a reason why they made it all nice and shiny for this one…)
--Even Mando thinks “Grogu” is a funny name! …and everybody’s sad that Mando will have to let him go *tears*
--Tython is a pretty place. “Woooaaah!” Flyin’s fun!
--I like the Forcehenge, very simple and powerful.
--Oh poodoo! Slave 1! Boba is the Man! Jango was given the armor? Interesting.
    --Heeere’s Gidion!
--Oh, by the Whills! Those Stormtrooper stunts are brutal! E-web’s brutal, too.
--That’s a WHOLE LOT of Stormtroopers for two transports
--Oh no! The Razor Crest! (Edit: See…? Bad Favreau, playing with our feels)
--Double Oh no! Don’t engage the Dark Troopers!
    --BAD DARK TROOPERS!
    --“They’re back; The Empire”: That’s a meme.
--Mando so sad now… He’s lost everything.
--Oh, Jango was a foundling? That’s cool.
--Boba & Fennec has honor; Honor among Bounty Hunters, that’s a cool thing.
--Nobody puts Babyoda in the corner!

Action episodes are usually not my thing, but this was AWESOME. So much tension and drama! This was action done right. And a nice build-up for a big team-up finale.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that this season – the 2nd act of the show – won’t end happily. I strongly suspect that either someone we care about dies, or Grogu will somehow remain a captive post season 2 (to be rescued in season 3).

    Another great episode.

It drove me mad that Din didn’t pick his jet pack up again, I guess he didn’t have time... I need to watch it again to see if that is more logistically explained...

Yoda on the stone was so cool. Seeing Slave I arrive was so cool. The Dark Troopers were so cool. So much about this episode was just so cool. :D

I loved how this week it was in such bright sunshine, contrasting with last week’s murky atmosphere.

I assumed ‘The Tragedy’ of the Chapter’s title was going to be Grogu being recaptured (it also made me think ... “...of Darth Plagueis the Wise”?!, but after watching it I think it’s really about the Razor Crest being blown to pieces!

Packed a lot into essentially half an hour. Boba was great. Poor Grogu.

Need to double-check Jamie and Claire weren’t hiding behind one of the standing stones... oh, wrong show. :p

    Loved it!

I just assumed it got picked up off-screen somehow? Or perhaps they need Mando to not have flying capabilities for the season double-feature finale...

Just finished watching. Waw it's getting better and better with every episode!

This was an episode made with so much fun! I really like it! I think the fans will be delighted, so much of Boba Fett shown!

We have seen the force emitting from this stone. Nice force field, I guess a property of the temple, so the one submerged in the force is completely protected from any disturbance. I like the temple design, simple and efficient, as it should be a Jedi temple. I would love to print it one day as a planter maybe.

Boba fighting was really cool to see. Now we know how they use the gaffi sticks ;) I enjoyed watching him shattering the plasteel. We have seen him really enjoying his old armor:D too. We have seen almost all of his armor side weapons in action. The gauntlet blaster and rocket, the other gauntlet rockets, the rockets in the knee armor piece, the jet pack rocket. And his iconic blaster is back. They made me really happy today!

The imperial assault troop carriers are a new design? I could not find a reference so far. The ship looks cool, but seems to be vulnerable even to small missiles. Having both transports shot was clearly a show off :) even if he was aiming for the other one! The force knows :) Too bad they are both shot, one of them could be a nice new ship for Mando.

Mando is using his whistling birds. Quite deadly they are. The Jet pack, is it still on that rock? Where was this planet ;)

The Dark Troopers have been engaged. Looking cool, but didn't do much. Jet pack troopers can do the same.

I told you in the previous thread, I want to see some surprise, I have seen several.

Firespray is back in the game, must be Slave III lol. I love the sound of this ship! Sounds like a trusted old machine :) and like Star Wars

Fennec is alive, as we speculated when we watched the chapter during Season 1. She is now part cyborg, but otherwise looks in good shape. She is very deadly as she was said in Season 1. I am very happy to see her in action, she made it all good!

Cara dune is a New Republic Marshal ... I was trying not to fall down laughing ... and she is following the rules now ... I am still on the chair but it really shaking. Then she pools this look :) and everything is OK. I know she will love to help. More imperials to shoot.

Baby Yoda seems to know his path. The way he was playing with those poor troopers :) but the Moff seems to be more than he show. I wander what is he really.

    The Tragedy

The Crest is literally blown to pieces :( it was a beautiful ship, tough and reliable, rest in peace! Good ships in SW never die, same like the Firespray, I expect it to return one day.

The baby is taken! The Moff took it. But it is not over yet! I believe the best is to come.

I feel very "meh" about this episode. I don't know, it feels...hollow? Like it was about a lot of pew-pew and "wow, cool!" and forgot that this is a story about people? Specifically, about Mando?

I mean, we got to hear Mando laugh for the first time, so I guess that's good...(too bad he won't be doing that again any time soon)...

When Din gets to Nevarro, all we see is him looking up Mayfeld (ugh, seriously?). Where is Greef, the where's-the-baby grandpa? Doesn't it make sense that he might be a little concerned that the kid is gone? Wouldn't Cara have something sympathetic to say about the Crest, which she traveled and lived in for a short time? No, just Din doing some logistics. But at least we got seven or eight shots of Boba Fett smashing up stormtrooper armor. And some dark troopers flying through the air. And a really long shootout. Where was the subtlety and quiet attention to atmosphere from season 1? Nowhere to be found. I feel like literally three minutes more of non-action, human connection scenes would have done wonders for this episode, and no one would have complained about a longer runtime. But no, we had checklist of action pieces to accomplish.

This is my least favorite episode of the season. Maybe both seasons. But I will give it some time and maybe it will grow on me...

Best episode yet. Things are really heating up.

First off I gotta say Temuera is amazing. I love that we got some backstory for the Fett armour and a taste of why Boba was so feared in the galaxy, he's cold. And it was great to see Fennec back in action, the bounty hunter aspect of the show is back and stronger than ever.

Dark troopers in live action! oh my god oh my god oh my god.

The Grogu prison scene was chilling.

Moff Gideon is shaping up to be a great villain, I hate him so much.

RIP Razor Crest. But at least we've got Slave 1 now!

The rock crushing the troopers, lol.

So Cara works for the NR now.

I'ts fascinating to see what'll happen from here: We've got Bo going after the saber, Din & BOBA FETT working together to save Grogu, Ahsoka knows, we haven't seen the other Mandos for ages, Did a Jedi sense Grogu during the Ritual? If so, who?

Well I suspected that was going to happen at some point. Faverou talked about redeeming Boba Fett a bit, I guess we know what that means. I don't believe Boba will kill Baby Yoda. I think this is going to get interesting. The Mace Windu return would be interesting at this point, and very problematic. If the jedi who responded was Mace Windu what would Boba do? I firmly believe Luke will step in and rescue baby yoda at some point or another Jedi and or perhaps on that ship Baby Yoda finds a Lightsaber. A duel with baby Yoda would be a bit unexpected and bitchin.

enjoyed the episode, but my kids will be quite sad when they watch it. They love baby Yoda.

Side note, If anyone can hunt down a Jedi for Mando, it would be Boba Fett, so this development is not entirely bad

I am busy and I must run, so I will return later to write more, but this sums up my reaction.

Just admit that you are dad, Din!

I hope the connection was good, Grogu.

Boba Fett is finally badass, thank the Force!

Rodrigez knows how to direct action.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

First watch, first impressions, mixed feelings.

Love it for Slave 1! my favourite SW ship after MF, the return of the incredible Boba and the arrival at Tython.

But I must say that possibly it has the worst directing part of the whole series.
My personal opinion, this chapter had to be magic, emotional and scary at the same time.
But some of the landings, explosions and the attack of the stormtroopers are really poorly made. Action scenes, in my opinion, not that good.
My fault has been watch it in 1080 and some scenes look so fake. I have to watch it in less resolution.
    For me Robert failed here.

Razor Crest part was sad, the troopers attack had some tension and Grogu part was excellent. Also love this new team reunited to rescue the child.

Not the best chapter. A shame cause I die for Slave 1 and Boba.

Didn't cry this time around like last week but was still in awe. What an episode. LOVED Temura Morrion's performance, felt not just like the OT Boba but also TCW one, you could see the sadness in his eyes when speaking of Jango.

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Grogu the baby Yoda?

Solid episode. Again, not a super unexpected outcome. Grogu getting captured is something that seemed necessary for the story. The stakes needed to be raised. This sets up similar to last season where Din has to gather some all starts to fight the boss at the end. This series isn't afraid to kill people off, but I'm not sure who would fit that role this season.

I suspect Ahsoka is going to answer the call. Introducing Luke or someone else would just muddy the waters too much. Ahsoka fits the story and characters introduced so far. I thought Grogu might just choose Din, but the way this episode unfolds means someone was on the other side of that call.

I've never been a Fett guy. Never really cared about him, but I know tons of people do and I'm very happy for them today. Fett looked great. A series with Fett and Frennec seems inevitable and after watching this episode it would be great.

I'm reminded now that Grace Randolph said there was some major twist in this season around the halfway point and so far she's missed that one big time. She also said Pedro was unhappy. What I'm getting at is she's a grifter so please don't pay attention to her Star Wars scoops.

Slave 1 was destroyed already right? So then came Slave II which was not interesting and this one should be at least Slave III. I am quite happy to see the ship again. I can understand him going back to this type.

Too bad for the Crest, but this eventually happens. I hope his new ship is equally interesting and capable.

The spear had survived! I expect that we are going to see it again in action.

So they go to rescue Mayfeld ... really? He proved to be a simple man. What if Mayfeld change his position and decides to join Mando in the fight? Maybe he has some stakes of his own with the empire.

    Who are the samurai?

    Karga
    Cara Dune
Mythrol ? maybe not, he looks not so fit for action
    Boba Fett
    Fennec
    Cobb Vanth
Mayfeld ? who knows maybe he will join, he was a good shooter with his 3 guns
    Din

So we have the team already :)
Now let's have the action. And one problem less, we don't need a nanny for the child because the empire is taking care of him until rescued.
