No specific scene but about 20 minutes in I knew I liked Rey, Finn & Poe and I felt at ease that these characters I cared for just like Luke, Leia, Han.

For 3 PT films I struggled to care about Anakin & Padme and thought it was me that I was holding them to a standard too high compared to Luke, Leia and Han.

But Rey, Finn & Poe proved it wasn't me it was the PT characters that just never gravitated to me and looking back the Trilogy never had a chance.

I will say when I saw Luke Skywalkers name in the crawl I got a surreal feeling that this is really happening.

Full disclosure: I put off seeing TFA for 2 months! I hadn't followed production news, or watched the trailers, or any of that.

The OT is so dear to me, and I despised the PT so badly, and I was extremely reticent to see Han Solo as an old man with a family (for me, he's just one of those characters who doesn't age or change, and I didn't want to be shown otherwise). So I didn't trust it, this idea of more new Star Wars movies. Anyway...

By the time I finally went to the theater, I'd heard a thousand times how great the movie was, so I felt pretty at ease that it was "going to be OK." But the moment that hooked me was when Kylo Ren stopped the laser blast midair -- and Poe's reaction to it, just hanging there as he passes, was perfection!

That's pretty crazy, but awesome that you weren't disappointed!

To the OG topic. When Disney/Lucasfilm announced a new Star Wars film without George Lucas' involvement. :D:D (It's a JOKE!)

For me it was the scene @General_Tarkin mentioned. When Finn and Poe are escaping in the Tie fighter, it had the energy, excitement and joy the of the OT!

When they made me care about and be invested in Poe, then BB-8, then Kylo, then Finn, and then Rey, all REALLY quickly. Because this film succeeds where the PT failed for me, making me care about the character and what happens to them.

Hey Cmdr, I won't give you negative rep but notice that the original post clearly said "For those of you who that enjoyed TFA..." so this thread is for discussing when we knew the movie was good. There are enough threads for those who want to rain on this parade.

It came in stages for me.

    - The beginning was good but I was still unsure. But when Poe made that joke about Kylo's mask I laughed out loud. At that moment I was so happy that Star Wars was actually funny again.
    - When Finn joked that he was talking to himself I became even more confident. To me the sense of humor was probably the thing that was most missing from the Star Wars movies that I didn't like.
    - The Rey montage with no dialog was beautiful. From then on I was 100% sure that this was a worthy Star Wars movie.

There were lots of other things I loved, but those were the ones that made all of the doubts melt away.

Poe interacting with Kylo Ren. That was the point I knew it would be good.

Hello @stencil I shared my opinion in a polite and funny way, I don't urinated on this thread nor derailed it.
I thought a different take on this matter would be appreciated.

A quick reminder for myself @Cmdr. Ed Straker don't write something unpopular or bad temper awakens.
It's a STAR WARS board, things are different here, it's more complicated than ordinary real life outside the internet. (Don't forget it this time Ed)

I basically had the same sequence of realizations. The moment I realized I was having fun watching was the escape from the Star Destroyer. And Rey's intro scene was an object lesson in visual storytelling. She doesn't say a single thing, but was learn so much about her before a thing comes out of her mouth- her isolation and self-reliance, but her optimism and nurturing side as well.

I can confirm your feelings, I had a similar emotional reaction.
Reading the name "Luke Skywalker" in a new opening crawl after 35 years was an astounding surreal experience.
Like someone gave me my favourite toy back that was lost since my childhood.
I know it sounds weird, but that's what I felt during reading the crawl. (and I'am not a diehard Star Wars fan/nerd)
To be honest, some minutes later I was disappointed with the outcome of the movie. (It was not the movie I hoped for)
My hope rests on Rogue One and VIII now.

The moment when Kylo Ren used the force to freeze Poe's blaster bolt in midair made me feel the same feeling that I had as a kid when I saw Darth Vader enter the Tantive IV or when I saw Darth Maul ignite his double-ended lightsaber. I knew from that moment that I was going to love the movie.

The scene immediately after the crawl did it for me. The star destroyer eclipsing Jakku's moons with the John Williams score was just textbook Star Wars. The lights flickering on the stormtroopers in the dropship was just a unique touch that made the entire sequence fresh, weird, and exciting. It immediately immersed me in the film!

I think I realized I was actually going to care about these new characters was when Rey was eating alone in her AT-AT home.

Wow. When I look back to that day, I recall being there quite early in order to get my seats. I recall being sitting there with the screen on dark I was really nervous.

But to be true, When I heard the first notes of the "Main Theme" and the opening crawl, I just had this feeling that the movie was going to be good.

I totally respect anybody else' opinion about the movie, if it was a reboot of ANH or what. But you know what? There is no way a movie is going to meet the expectations of all the fans. Some fans hated the prequels because they were nothing like the OT; some people is hating TFA because they think it is too much like the OT. As we can see, there is no way everyone will be pleased at the end.

And as a friend of mine who is a playwright says, of course TFA has a lot of the elements from the OT BUT you have to be pretty talented as a screenwriter to do that and get such a good product as TFA was.

As a Han and Leia fan, right after the movie I had mixed feelings since I knew I loved the movie but I was saddened about what happened to Han. But in the aftermath, I could see the beauty of their tragedy and I think I have come to terms with that.

Others have mentioned it already, but the moment Rey slid down the dune made me say this movie is going to be different. Before that, I feared it was going to be too cheesy.

That sequence through to Rey rescuing BB8 is still my favorite sequence.

As an aside, anyone else think she unknowingly used the Jedi mind trick to Teedo?

For me it is when we first see Kylo Ren right in the beginning. Very cold and dark. From then on, I was sold!
