SPOILER The New Canon (Books & Comics)

The canon books I've read so far are tarkin. I'm half way done with A New Dawn and I will be reading heir to the jedi right after. I've already pre ordered Lords of the Sith, Aftermath, and Dark Disciple. I'm pretty much set with the adult novels.

 

Here's the 1st licensed timeline from Star Wars Books. I don't know if the Battlefront listing is for the game or if there is a book coming out also?

This new order of canon has gone way to far. I mean, it was established in ep1 that Palpatine's first name was Frank. But now I just read that his name is Sheev. Guess this new name came from one of the newer books, but come on?!?

In my humble opinion the movies should always be considered A-canon. Never cared too much about the old EU, even though I've read some of it.

With all media now on a level playing field canon-wise, I'm kind of surprised that the comics and young adult novels (Ezra's Gamble, etc.) weren't included in this timeline.

 

The worst part about the new canon is that all my friends look to me as their resident Star Wars expert. And now my knowledge of all things Star Wars has been greatly reduced! They ask me questions about what is going to happen in TFA and I can't tell them. They seem almost disappointed that I don't know. I have to tell that the official storyline has been reset. But that apparently isn't good enough for them.

I did enjoy Tarkin though. Not sure about all the other ones yet. I'm trying to decide how much time, money and effort I'll devote to the new canon. And sure do miss some of my favorite story lines (Thrawn Trilogy/Duology, Jedi Academy, New Jedi Order, etc) and hope some of those arcs or characters make their way into the new EU.

 

Well i think it is because they are less important and it's already too much of them to fit in one page.

Btw Ezra's Gamble is pretty good!

 

I'm assuming they are only including the adult novels like the old EU used to do, with the exception of the movies and tv shows.

Yes, but I'm hoping it's still considered canon (believe it is). It adds to Ezra's character background. Also the new young reader novels are said to have ties to TFA. We'll see how strongly or loosely those are soon.

 

It is. All media released since the EU reboot announcement is canon.

 

It's pretty easy to figure out where the new comics fit into this, but I hope on the next timeline the existing comic series are included. This is pretty cool to see, though.

 

I'm not disappointed. I'm excited because there's a sense of mystery to the SW again and they can create new stories. SW legends is a mess but don't get me wrong I still loved the books!!! I just hope the new books don't end up being worse than the legends EU.

 

This may have been asked before...... Where can I find a list of books in order for the new canon??
For my birthday I received Darth Plagueis, Tarkin and Heir to the jedi. I want to make sure I read everything in order.

This is a good start. Jedi Bibliotek has a good one breaking down all the Clone Wars material. Darth Plagueis is a great book, but they don't consider it canon unfortunately. I say they should, but regardless it is a great read and worth your time.
