please note that this thread contains TLJ spoilers!

with that out of the way...

we can confirm some new facts based on TLJ:

Rey is indeed a nobody (given Ben wasn't lying)

    Luke is gone

    Snoke is gone

Kylo Ren is the new Supreme Leader of the First Order

one of the best parts of TLJ, in my opinion, was how every new ST character was pushed into a situation where they had to display leadership and bravery. Leia was out of action so Finn, Poe, and Rose got up to plate; Holdo performed an enormously brave act; with Luke gone Rey took on the mantle of being the last Jedi and sole hope of the order; only DJ really didn't end up being brave... the jerk.

another thing i loved was the Rey Nobody "reveal," along with the broom boy at the end. they both act as evidence that the Skywalker name is just that: a name; that everyone has the ability to be brave and to exhibit hope; that Force abilities are spread far and wide and it doesn't take a legend to do the right thing.

at the end of TLJ we hear Rey asking Leia something like, "but how can we build a rebellion with so little?" and then we get that nice hopeful group shot that's oh-so Star Warsy and the movie ends.

what i predict to happen in Episode 9 is Rey will struggle to rebuild the Jedi, Poe, Finn, and Rose will work on the Resistance/Rebellion, and Kylo Ren will work with his Knights of Ren to crush what is left of the Resistance and to find Rey and stop her before she can pass on what Luke taught her (which didn't seem like a whole lot, but ho hum, let's leave that aside for now).

a lot of people were frustrated that we never got to see Luke teach a new generation of Jedi. i think we may have this wish granted after all, but instead of Luke doing the heavy lifting it will be Rey. it makes sense as this is Rey's story, not Luke's.

Poe, Finn, and Rose will obviously be working on getting the Resistance back up to snuff to stop the First Order. that's kind of a gimme...

Luke mentions in TLJ that Ben took off with a handful of his apprentices and killed the rest; i think this is a reference to the Knights of Ren we've all been waiting for.

i believe Ben will go down as evil, never to be redeemed, shown as an example of what hubris and vanity will do to a person. Rey will become the, "we're all Luke Skywalker" leader of the new Jedi and will teach people like broom boy and others. there could even be a cool showdown between her pupils and the KoR.

what do you think? will Rey teach others the ways of the Force? or is there something else in store for us come 2019?

From a storytelling perspective I feel like you need an established character to be part of the New Jedi. So I'd have Finn be her first apprentice and then have Maz finally decide after all the years to train as a Jedi. That way the viewer is more invested to the group since we'll know more members of it and not just the one. Also Luke can still be involved as a mentor to the new Jedi, he disappeared which would seem to imply he can manifest as a force ghost, so I fully expect Hamill to return and for Luke to take on a much more traditional mentor role.

I feel like the inclusion of the young stable boy using the force served several purposes. One of which was to show there are other force users out there who Rey will be able to connect with.

I think Ep IX will make a significant time jump, so it would not surprise me to see Rey and a new group of Jedi well into training. I don't think that Rey will try to go against Kylo Ren alone.

I'm going to throw out a theory that many may not like. I think that Luke was the last Jedi and not Rey. I think that was the first lesson he taught her was that is a mistake to think only the Jedi can control the light side of the force is hubris and gave rise to the current situation. I think TFA and TLJ was very specific in showing the difference between a force user and a Jedi/Sith.

What this may create in episode IX and perhaps the future trilogy is a galaxy where the force is balancing itself and more and more force users are learning about the force. I don't see Kylo Ren as strictly a Sith Lord, and I don't see Rey as strictly a Jedi Knight. In fact, Snoke was very specific when berating Kylo saying something to the effect of "you were unbalanced, and beaten by Rey" he makes specific reference to unbalanced.

Rey on the other hand sees no difference in the light and dark side of the force. She even scares Luke with how easily she investigates the dark side. But Rey realizes it has something to show her and without fear embraces the lesson she learns from the cave. Because she is balanced she is not afraid of either side of the force. Even the way she fights with a lightsaber represents balance, she is very passionate when fighting, often times screaming out battle cries. We have always been taught that passion was a bad thing in the code of the Sith but it seems Rey is able to draw from both sides.

Because Kylo is fully on the dark side of the force, and Rey is balanced, it will cause a lot of new light side force users (like the stable boy) to pop up to balance it out. I think this could be interesting because there could be an infinite amount of new force users.

I mean Luke literally said he wouldn't be the last Jedi. Plus Rey took the Jedi books. It may not be the Jedi from the prequels, there may be some "reformation" of sorts but I think its safe to say there will be some form of the Jedi.

There are so many possibilities but it can't be cluttered or put into a box. One thing is for sure, Kylo will try and destroy it all and Rey just like he said to Luke.

Rey doesn't really need the books, per se, but I'd say there will be a leap in time and she will have learned the right way of teaching. I don't really know how it will be addressed really. I'm sure Luke will be involved in some way, maybe Yoda, maybe they just observe and not intervene.

But one thing I've learned from seeing this movie and I'm sure IX will follow this trend. Its not going to go the way we think.

I'd love to see the force ghosts actually take an active role. Like having Obi Wan, Anakin, Qui Gon's voice and Yoda (and now Luke) giving "lessons" to the new padawans. All of them talking about their successes and failures and guiding the new Jedi to not make the same mistakes. Maybe make a joke by having it be Ewan's Obi Wan and having him say something like "I thought this form would be a more comforting appearance for you." have Anakin really hammer home the temptations of the dark side and how it can come from a seemingly altruistic and noble intention (like saving Padme).

Luke is gone and Mark won't return after all the trouble with KK, Rian and co. I don't care who Rey trains as long as they don't call them Jedi, because Rey is not a Jedi. And it is a shame that Luke did no reformation of the Jedi and now super Rey will do it.

Everything he says and the way he says confirms if for me that he is done. In Japan he said 'I played Luke Skywalker'.

So it means we won't see

Force ghost Luke to haunt Kylo as he said he would? We won't see him help Rey and continue her lessons?

It's odd. Luke asks Yoda, "So it is time for the Jedi to end?" and Yoda says yes.

But then at the end of the film Luke just goes, "I won't be the last Jedi".

"So true was, what I said... from a certain point of view." - Yoda ( The Last Jedi )

"Obi Wan, is that you???" - Luke ( The Last Jedi )

*Yoda hits Luke on the head*

I think a new Jedi Academy (or something similar) is something that might be the focus of a trilogy after IX. Since Rey's story is not supposed to be over after IX, that might be a good time to explore a story based around a new order. Whether it be a new order of Jedi or something new entirely based around what Rey has learned from what came before her. The Jedi Order had so many issues that it might be time for something new.

After Luke's failure, I think Rey is more cautious when it comes to training new Jedi. It's too early on for her to do so. Like Yoda said, Luke wasn't a Jedi yet in RotJ despite being strong. He had to overcome one final test: Vader. Rey still has Kylo. She can't start her own school without confronting him first.

Unless another horrific massacre of Jedi occurs [ please no) I don't think there is enough narrative time to showcase a bunch of Jedi pupils...I think at most there will be one.
