I saw shades of Dungy's Colts in that game. Resting your starters for more than a week can throw out all the chemistry you built over the season but if you play them in meaningless games you risk critical injury. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation as a HC.

We did the same thing Baltimore did in 2005 after starting 13-0 and got whipped by the Steelers literally the same way. Just couldn't shake off the rust. But guess what happened next year? We won the Super Bowl.

I don't like the Titans making the AFCCG but at least the epic Texans choke job from yesterday more than made up for it.

    Let's go Clemson!

    Bring your own guts!

Win or lose, I am truly happy just to have Clemson back among the top teams in football again. I took their success for granted when I was a kid growing up in SC. Then came a few decades of obscurity, but Dabo arrived and brought them back to relevancy and I plan on appreciating every minute it lasts.

I am a much bigger fan of the NFL and the Miami Dolphins, and I hope a similar rejuvenation one day happens with them as well. There were no Carolina Panthers when I was a kid in SC, so I went with the Dolphins and stuck with them through good times and bad.

Hope everyone watching enjoys the game. Have a great night!

    Just gonna leave this here...

If the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV, Andy Reid would get victory 222 on 2-2-20.

Congrats to Lamar Jackson for being just the 2nd unanimous MVP ever in the history of the league! @Alamact you said this was totally gonna be a rebuild season for you guys. Does the 2019 season still leave that impression for you? :p
This is why I'm going to pick San Francisco.

I still stand by this statement, as silly as it sounds.

This was supposed to be a transitional year where we shore up our young talent and discard our aging veterans. I wasn't expecting to see Lamar progress so damn fast, and I was expecting the defense to regress slightly before the new leaders emerged and found their footing. I thought a solid 9-7 season was in the cards and I don't think I'm being harsh with that assessment.

While I don't think we will replicate our 14-2 record next season, I do believe that we will emerge as a more complete team, since all the dead money from Flacco's contract will open up a lot of leniency to pursue important extensions and star players in free agency. Coupled with an easier strength of schedule, I don't see why Baltimore wouldn't at least win their division again with solid 11-5 or 12-4 record. Nothing short of a complete injury implosion will stop the Ravens from competing in the playoffs once again a year from now.

Game on now. Play of the game so far from KC there at 3rd and 15.

This is great stuff. Chiefs to win in regulation or 27-27 and OT then who knows.

(KC get the ball back on downs. Score on the next play but one) I did not expect that though.

I was full prepared for SF, if anyone, to be the ones to turnover and score in the space of a couple of plays.

But KC were ruthless and deadly accurate in that last half quarter. Can’t just call it a choke by the Niners. Although they did.

In a way it was sort of more likely that they’d be the ones who might. Chiefs narrowly missed out to NE while SF were turning round 12 defeats in 2018.

Anyone watching the XFL? Pretty decent so far. Relatively speaking.

I wouldn't be worried about that. All the big hits QBs took this year were from the pocket.
It's an old narrative that needs to die. The hits add up,, sure, but like, when you are a runner you at least BRACE for the impact. Sitting there in your pocket, trying to make that throw, a sudden hit from a defender can do a hella lot damage compared to getting tackled scrambling.
There was this crazy stat that @Dork Lord of the Bith posted after the Super Bowl about how Shanahan was outscored 46-0 in the 4th quarter/OT in his combined Super Bowl appearances.

Yeah, from my limited experience, standing or running players don't have significant control over how they're tackled, but runners have more control over how they fall contrasted to the pocket thrower - who doesn't give up scanning for targets up until the last fractions of the second. And the fall is 99% of the time the injury cause, not the tackle. As long as the QB is always prepared to go down on their own terms (like sliding), they should be partially safe running.
I haven't watched, but I did check out the teams and their branding and all to see if any caught my eye. None really did, but I'll catch a game when I get a chance.

I watched the Vipers @ Dragons game, and this moment was special. Best interception in XFL history.

To play devil's advocate, hits outside the pocket eventually add up over the years as you get older. They may not necessarily end a quarterback's career, but they play a factor in shortening it. Wilson and Rodgers were seen as rushing quarterbacks in their youth, but both have largely adapted to rely more on the passing game entering their thirties. They still sometimes turn on the jets, though - especially Wilson.

The running style of the player also plays a factor. Bulldozing through defenders like Vick, Cam or Josh Allen is great and gets you the yards, but I would rather take bets on elusive runners like Watson, Lamar or Mahomes having longer careers. This is also a reason why tight ends have a shorter shelf life.

I've been enjoying the games the past two weekends. Of course it's not NFL standard. It's no the NFL. But I've seen NFL games that have been worse than what we've seen so far.
