    2018 NFL SEASON

As we come off an exciting post-season, marked by an AFC filled with upsets week-after-week, and an NFC whose champions, its ultimate underdogs, carved their way through the league with a backup quarterback to ultimately oust a Lombardi from Bill Belichick's hands - it is a brand new year for the shield, with the Free Agency period in full swing yet again.

This thread is made for the purpose of discussing the NFL for the duration of the 2018 season, whether or not you're lifelong veterans of following the sport, or recent newcomers trying to see what all the ruckus is about.

    Dates to Look Out For:
March 14 - the official start of the 2018 League Year.
April 26-28 - the 2018 NFL Draft (AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas)
August 2 - Hall of Fame Game, Canton, Ohio.
September 1 - Deadline for teams to reduce their active roster to 53 players.
September 6 - Regular Season opens.

    The Teams:

    AFC North:
Pittsburgh Steelers - AFC North Champions
    Baltimore Ravens
    Cincinnati Bengals
    Cleveland Browns

    AFC East:
New England Patriots - AFC Champions
    Buffalo Bills
    Miami Dolphins
    New York Jets

    AFC South:
Jacksonville Jaguars - AFC South Champions
    Tennessee Titans
    Houston Texans
    Indianapolis Colts

    AFC West:
Kansas City Chiefs - AFC West Champions
    Los Angeles Chargers
    Oakland Raiders
    Denver Broncos

    NFC North:
Minnesota Vikings - NFC North Champions
    Detroit Lions
    Chicago Bears
    Green Bay Packers

    NFC East:
Philadelphia Eagles - Super Bowl Champions
    Dallas Cowboys
    Washington Redskins
    New York Giants

    NFC South:
New Orleans Saints - NFC South Champions
    Atlanta Falcons
    Carolina Panthers
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    NFC West:
Los Angeles Rams - NFC West Champions
    Seattle Seahawks
    Arizona Cardinals
    San Francisco 49ers

Now, it's hardly a secret that I'm a staunch Baltimore Ravens fan. So, I'll kickoff the discussion saying that I'm really looking forward to what the team does with their recent signing of Michael Crabtree. Our passing game was absolutely atrocious last season, and if it weren't for Alex Collins rising to the occasion as a running back, we'd hardly even come close to being considered a playoff team. Even our defense started to crumble in the last few minutes of almost every game, perhaps most infamously culminating in our match-up against the Bengals in December that cost us a playoff berth.

What about you, Cantina? Which teams are your favorites? What are you looking forward to the most about the upcoming season?

Colts fan here. I love how we are just gobbling up picks right now without a care in the world.

The King in the North roots for the city from which you need to head south in order to get to Canada.... DETROIT!

New head coach in Matt Patricia.
New piece to the RB game in LeGarrette Blount.
Same great QB, same great WRs, same stud CB and S....
This year is really going to hinge on the D's front seven. If they can add a few more pieces to the D-Line and the LBs, this team could really come into its own and do some damage down the stretch. Oh, and it still has to fix that atrocious run game. But the aforementioned Blount should be a huge step in the right direction.

I always love to see Buffalo do well. It seems like the front office finally has a solid plan in place and they are trying to re-build the team the right way.

Enjoy Eric Ebron. I hope he has a massively successful year (and career) with you guys! He had moments of brilliance in Detroit, but was just never going to live up to the unfair expectations of the fans.

I really like the signing. I think he and Flacco will get a nice rapport going pretty early on... Baltimore with a reliable passing game would be scary.

How do you feel about the big drops he did last season? I'm not sold on him yet but I also don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth given our team's current state.

I always hated the "drops a lot of balls" stigma that Ebron carried with him. Early in his rookie year, yes I recall him dropping a lot of passes.... Rookie season, I'll forgive it. After that, he cleaned it up a lot. And he made a lot of huge plays. But, fans never forget the bad. After he was labeled as a "dropper," every drop gets amplified x1000. Heck I remember Calvin Johnson dropping would-be game winners... (and catching a game-winner only to be told he didn't catch it, though that's another rant for another time)... Detroit took a serious step back at TE, and would have kept him if not for the big salary he also accounted for.

I'll be picking up Ebron on my Fantasy team this year if I get the chance; I really believe he's got a lot left to offer. And sometimes, a change of scenery is exactly what the Dropper Doctor ordered. Sorry, couldn't resist. :p

PS - this article (by Lions beat-writers) really puts Ebron's career to date into perspective -- after reading it, hopefully you'll be more on the excited side than the nervous side.

If I would have seen this previous to Monday, I would have said I was feeling great. Now, all expectations have gone out the window.

Finally got to watch the BBC highlights programme & it all started so well for you with that touchdown interception.
Also the game report in the official NFL site is pretty harsh / funny depending on you POV.

I'm predicting jinxing a Rams vs. Chiefs Super Bowl. We're due for one of those oddball, unpredictable match-ups, and I'm a big fan of what Sean McVay has been doing with the Rams roster. The Vikings will, of course, once again be beaten in the Championship game.

The Bengals starting strong at 2-0 will only make their mid to late season collapse all the more painful for Cincy to withstand.

I would rather embrace the narrative that Cincy is finally having a good year so our painful loss to them hurts less.

Steelers suck major ass this year apparently and somehow Cleveland is putting up a fight without Josh Gordon against Drew freaking Brees. AFC North is going to be a weird division.

I'm sure Andy Reid will find some way to choke his 21 point lead away. Though I'm honestly surprised to see the Browns leading against the Saints - and on a similar note, the Texans performing so abysmally against a wounded Titans team.

Edit: Good God, it's actually happening. Just a one point difference now.

    Edit #2: Oh, wow. A 2-pt conversion. Guess it's a tie.

I was just thinking about that. It's looking a lot like the Bills, Cards & the Lions are going to be the bottom feeders this season. Cleveland is actually good. Jury's still out on the Jets.

I like how the Colts are looking but the AFC South is a much different place this time. We didn't have to worry about the Jaguars or Titans at all.

I envy the Steelers' wide receiving corps. There's some devious Yinzer sorcery going on there.
