I see where Disney might be pursuing the distribution rights to the 6 Star Wars movies. Possibly leading to the release of the Original OT?

It would be cool to have an in-theater movie marathon of all 6 movies in standard or 3D/IMAX for one ticket price. Pretty sure The Lord of the Rings did that with the extended versions.

I know Lucas had the PT ready to go for the 3D release and Disney nixed them. I'm thinking they were planning an OT 3D also. May not be accurate on that one though. But I'd pay to see them.

Yeah it was going to be all six movies in 3D, 1 every year for 6 years but since Disney bought them, they cancelled the rest and started producing the ST and the spin-offs.
I doubt Disney will do that as Ep I 3D did terrible in the box office.

It did terrible... Presuming you're treating the movie as a brand-new release and not a reissue. As far as reissues go, considering that this was a movie that had been on home video for over a decade, I believe that this was a modest success for Lucasfilm.

As far as what I know about how 3D conversion, it only costs $50,000-$100,000 per minute of footage, which, all things considered, is a minuscule part of the budget. Given that The Phantom Menace has a running time of 136 minutes, that would translate to a $6,800,000-$13,600,000 cost of conversion. Box Office Mojo says the reissue made over $43,000,000 in the United States alone, which is over 6.32 times that amount on the lower end of the spectrum and over 3.16 times that amount on the higher end of the spectrum (barring marketing costs, of course). It made a decent fortune overseas, too - grossing over $59,000,000 outside of America. Technically speaking, the movie did miles better than James Cameron's reissue of Avatar, the highest-grossing movie ever made. The Phantom Menace 3D took third place on its opening weekend while Avatar: Special Edition didn't even make it into the top ten.

I imagine that they'll release the other movies in 3D eventually, but I think it'd most likely happen to promote Episode IX or something way down the line. They never said that they'd never revisit the concept of reissuing the other movies, just that they wanted to focus on the future first before making a quick buck off of the past. Also, I think they wanted to starve the market before The Force Awakens is released in order to get more people to see the movie as a "big event" rather than "another Star Wars movie".

I like Disney, would to go to Disneyland Paris and Disneyworld. They own Star Wars (they invited BB8) and Marvel and Pixar/Toy Story series. But they started to anger me, They do mess things up, when they bought 20th Century Fox, Disney cancelled the project that Fox going to make, like Mouse Guards (and typicaly other flim company going to make it). In UK, Disneystores expect one in London are closing down, why is that. And my brother used to watched Disney XD channel but got taken off maybe cos of Disney plus but in America accounding to my Brother USA still have Disney XD even there Disney plus, why that? Do DIsney even care of their fand or people or care about money.
