They weren't really wasted.
They were bit parts that in any other franchise would have been played by the guy who played a sex offender on an episode of Law and Order SVU ten years ago and a random old character actor from the 80s.
But it's Star Wars. So Max Von Sydow and the Raid fellas get those spots.
Same way you get a talent like Simon Pegg to play Unkar Plutt.

"Hey do you want to forever be attached to Star Wars for a few days of shooting?"

We'll just have to disagree; The Force Awakens was a rushed production that compromised the script and potential scope, while I understand the desire to have a film by 2015, it wasn't necessarily the right call.

The roles of these actors evolved over time, in an unfortunate limited capacity. With more time and commitment, The Last Jedi can be a far superior film.

 

What about it was rushed?
And please provide proof that is was rushed, not random hearsay.

And they were fun little cameos and roles that didn't require a lot and that a lesser IP would have gotten far less out of than Star Wars.
You can disagree all you want but I really have no idea what your gripe is.

Might be ancient "news" to most folks here, but I just I wasted about twenty minutes trying to determine what was visible under/behind "DJ's" raised, bent knee in the photo, -so I figured I'd share... (it's just a piece of lighting equipment that probably shouldn't be/ wasn't meant to be in the shot) ---

anybody read the article about Visceral's new Star Wars game on MSW?

am i being stupid to ask that here??? the link between the game's character and BDT jumped out at me like.. well.. a big jumpy thing.

well it's a long shot.. and i'm unsure about referencing an MSW article about the Visceral game, as it is potentially a spoiler. not sure if we'd bother tagging stuff about a SW game?

Almost the only thing we know about him came from the VF article recently..

Basically i'm thinking that whatever happens to this character in the game... Leia is aware of, and finding him is part of Finn's critical mission with Rose (also mentioned in the VF article)

yeah.. i'm adding 2 & 2 and coming up with 4769.

 

I think it's hard to say that any of that is true until we see where the saga is headed with both TLJ and 9. TFA is the kind of movie that will be defined by its sequels. If the next two films are great then TFA will be hailed as a genius work of art that set up the next two films perfectly, if they are bad then TFA will be seen as a film that limited the creative choices of the directors of both TLJ and 9, can't really say at this point either way.

 

Just a theory but what if DJ stands for "Dameron Junior"? No not Poe Dameron's son (obviously) but rather the son of Kes Dameron.

I believe Poe Dameron and DJ could be brothers. Their parents would be Kes Dameron and Shara Bey.

Kes Dameron and Shara Bey both fought alongside Han and Luke. (Canon)

I also find it interesting that when you swap the letter R in Rey for a B, the same as you can swap the letter B in Ben for an R to make Ren, you get Bey.

This is just a bit of a warped theory I had in mind please don't take it too seriously but I would love to know what you guys think.

I would absolutely love it if DJ was Ezra Bridger, for me that would be perfect but of course I'm happy whatever or whoever DJ is.

 

Close to what I am thinking. What if he actually is Kes Dameron and "DJ" stands for "Dear John"? What if he left Shara and Poe on Yavin 4 for unknown reasons? I don't remember if his fate was ever revealed in any of the books that have been released. But, this is my guess.

 

I don't see them spoiling Rebels that way... If he is Ezra then it means that he will be alive by the end of Rebels and it will raise a ton of questions about why he is never mentioned in the original trilogy, theories about whether he is "the other one" or not etc etc...

I honestly believe that BDT will have a small cameo in the movie and that's all...

 

A quick search over at acronymfinder.com reveals that D.J. is a common acronym for the infamous Don Juan.

Seeing BB-8 in the same shot as D.J., I hope Del Toro isn't playing a womanizing friend of Poe's with questionable allegiances.

I would hope a Dark Jedi would wear something more intimidating than a pillbox hat!

 

I think DJ stands for Don Juan. So he's basically a white Lando.
