I have a bad feeling about her pairing up with Finn. I already had an issue with Boyega being way too fun and overacting in TFA and now we get an actress that feels straight outta those Disney Channel sitcoms and series, designed only for kids less than 15 years old and I may say a lot... I thought that we would see a darker and more serious Finn in TLJ and the same for the movie as a whole, so I hope these duo keeps up with it and doesn't turn it into a childish adventure...

I may be too harsh on her, I would be more than glad to be wrong...

I really don't think we should judge her acting ability based on her roles in CollegeHumor shorts. Just like in Daisy's case, this is going to be her first true film role, so I believe we should wait and reserve our judgement. Moreover, just because a film is supposedly "darker," it doesn't mean it should be devoid of any character humour. Moments of levity make the drama in film more poignant, while dramatic scenes make comedies feel more real.

i don't know if KMT is signed up for ep9... but it could be that the character Rose is merely a vehicle to move Finn's character to a certain place.

Just wild speculation, but what if Phasma catches up with Finn and kills Rose just as Finn is becoming fond of her? It would completely change him from wanting to survive the FO.. to wanting to stop them.

Rey will be very very different when she meets up with Finn next... it's possible that Finn will be very different and very very hardened. just a thought, but it's possible that the first half we will see Finn from TFA.. brave but still wary of the FO and involved in a fair bit of humor, and the second half we could see an entirely different and serious Finn.

Gosh, I hope not! And I feel like that arc for Finn was already covered in 'The Force Awakens'. (Also, I have no desire to watch another female character perish just to forward a male character's journey.)

I do think we will see a different Finn in this movie. He's fully committed to the Resistance (as we saw on Starkiller Base) and just barely survive a lightsaber duel. I think he'll be more confident and assertive this time around. (And hopefully still charming and unintentionally hilarious.)

Unless I'm wildly forgetting someone...that's happened once right?

    Padme to further Anakin...

But the converse has happened many times....

    Obi-Wan for Luke
    Han for Kylo
    Vader for Luke
    Qui-Gon for Obi-Wan

I meant in films in general.

And men dying for other men isn't the reverse.

What would that be, men dying to further the story of another man, then; if not the converse of a woman dying to further a man's story....

It's just seems silly to propose that as a reason a character shouldn't die.

You are basically giving her really bad plot armor and that's never good.

It's not silly if you pay attention to how women are often, almost systematically, treated in popular media.
That's not to say characters shouldn't die, ever, and that that shouldn't influence another character's trajectory. But a new character shouldn't exist solely for that purpose. I hope that, should she die, it's presented as being part of her own journey. (An example of how not to do it: Padme's death served other characters, her storyline and character trajectory were basically thrown out the window in Episode III).

P.S. the reverse would be a male character dying for a female character's journey.

Her character arc was reaching the end in ROTS and she had to give birth to Luke and Leia. She couldn't be flying into action while in the last trimester of her pregnancy. As for the idea that she had to survive to raise Leia for a few years on Alderaan . . . that was a dumb thing for Lucas to hint in ROTJ. I cannot see Padme giving up one of her children to a pair of in-laws she had only seen once in her life and keeping the other. Perhaps he realized how illogical this was and killed off Padme after she had given birth. I can't believe that so many people saw nothing wrong with Padme giving up Luke to the Lars and keeping Leia.

As for Marie . . . I hope she becomes a good friend for Finn. But I have a deep suspicion that she has been added to provide a romantic interest for him. One, I hate the idea that her sole reason for being in the story is to be someone's romantic interest. And two, I have a deep suspicion that many are viewing her as a possible romantic interest for Finn, because they cannot deal with Rey, who is portrayed by a white actress, eventually having a romance with Finn, who is portrayed by a black actor.

Or she could do something heroic which would keep her from being baggage. I suspect we will see something heroic before we see any betrayal. I could be wrong though

Anything heroic Finn could have been doing on his own. There has to be major justification to add new characters to what was already a bloated cast in Episode VII.

I think her sister dies and she says something along the lines 'I'm coming with you or without you' and Finn being Finn takes her with him.

I think the image from book cover pretty much gives off that vibe:

I don't mind it. As you know Magnar,
originally back with Arndt's script (not counting Maz and Snoke) there were 7 new characters in the script.

They evolved into Rey, Finn, Poe, Lor, Hux, Kylo and what was suppose to be another young girl that was dropped. (Phasma was added later.)

Originally another young woman was apart of TFA. Even if Rian invented her, i see Rose as what that original character could have evolved into. (with relation to the other characters I mean.)

They couldn't POSSIBLY be so on the nose as to name her "Rose" as a reference Tokyo Rose, could they? Yes, Tran is Vietnamese. But. I sure hope not. And if they are, it could either be because: she's a traitor; or, more akin to the real Tokyo Rose, accused of treason but actually just a poor, trapped girl in a bad/hopeless situation, and took a "job" with the "enemy" as a way to make ends meet in that desperate time. (shrug)

Or, she could just be named Rose, and they want lead us down the false path to make these conclusions. (double shrug)

Also, Tokyo Rose was a DJ. Maybe DJ is named that because he's the real traitor? (triple shrug)

They would never put that on the website and merchandise ahead of time anyway. :) She could betray the Resistance to save Finn's life for all we know.

Her character needs a grand big something, else she's been just been described to be for Finn as what Chewbacca is to Han Solo. :) They claim no big romance like Han and Leia.
