The PT and the OT shaped the ST and the new trilogy is now what they're mainly doing so they can't change the previous ones without changing the TFA movie. Most people talk ill of his art mainly with the prequels because of some of the dialogue and the cgi but, as Lucas has said, star wars is more of a soap opera and those things have some pretty odd writing.

Good question, I would hope not, but then again, I like them how they are. I know Episode IV belongs to 20th Century Fox forever, since Lucas only got the rights to everything film and television related to Star Wars after the original film, so they got to keep the rights and if anything more will be changed with it, Fox would have to approve of the changes being done or not themselves.

I see it that Star Wars was George Lucas' creation and even if I have a love/hate relationship with the prequels, I'm glad he was more or less steering the ship. I think it's his story to tell.

You accept the storyteller's story or you don't. If anything I'm a little disappointed that it's now turned into another one of Disneys cash cows that's lead by what the fans do and don't want. It seems to be turning into another "super hero" uninspired cheap entertainment type franchises that just keeps going and going only because the makers know they can keep cashing in.

I feel like the fans who hated and complained so vehemently against the prequels sort of bit the hand that fed them, and forced Lucas to step away and sell.

Just my thoughts:) I'm still a fan but I don't have my hopes or expectations too high for the future of Star Wars, and the OT and prequels will always have a special place in my heart.

I agree. I personally love the OT and PT, and wished Disney kept Lucas' original stories so that we could see a glimpse at what the creators vision would've been like, since he wouldn't be directing or producing, keeping his stories would've been good. I wish Disney didn't leave him out of the loop entirely. He was supposed to be a creative consultant, but they still decided not to have him involved in anyway.

I was under the impression that they wanted Lucas on board to help as a creative consultant for future films, but aside from having limited involvement with TFA, he's not interested.

Dislike this post if you want, but I think the "Star Wars fatigue" hit Lucas around ROTJ. I don't know the guy personally, so this is all speculation, but I feel that Lucas was full of Star Wars after ESB and especially after his divorce... He's not interested in the stuff for decades now. Or at least not as much as around ANH. Call Disney a greedy corporation, but I feel Lucas went back and made the prequels solely for monetising whats left in the franchise until he still could. And maybe to experiment in digital technology, in which he was undoubtedly very interested.
When I first read his original draft of "The Adventures of Luke Starkiller" I was fascinated by how creative and original it was. It's a truly visionary tale done by a creative artist. Same with THX-1138. Those stuff scream creativity. When I look at the PT... well, I don't want to repeat the stuff floating around for 20 years now.

So, as much as Star Wars might be cash grab to Bob Iger and Disney, I still feel that the people behind the new movies care about SW just as much or even more than Lucas around the time he made ANH.

Here is the thing about Lucas, he has always made this stuff as he goes so I honestly don't know how much original stories he had for the ST as I think it's getting overblown. I'm sure he had an outline of key characters and where he wanted to take the trilogy, but the details have always been written on the fly. (He changed the turn scene in ROTS after he shot it, so that was the main reason for that Trilogy and he still didn't know where he was going in the end) I always thought the divorce between Disney/Lucas came down to Lucas not wanting to be a 'creative consultant.' It's just not in his DNA to do that, as he needs total control, and I think he saw the writing on the wall. He even said when TFA came out that he probably would have been a burden on the project if he kept interjecting because he is not used to being a secondary person.

In a perfect world, the best thing for the ST would have been for Lucas to write a mass outline of the trilogy, and let Disney take it from there. But we all know that he wouldn't have been happy with that as he would have wanted to get more involved once the film started shooting. The best thing in the end was to cut the cord and let Disney take over the franchise. I think in the end it was the right move, and I think it will help Lucas legacy as years go on.

He was very interested. They gave Lucas that credit as a favor but never exercised it. He really had no involvement from TFAz

George is great. Working with him always makes you feel like the universe is just within your reach. It would be hard to find a more imaginative or inspiring person. I'm just glad he didn't stick with the original title.

Welcome to the Cantina! We're honored to have one of the original Star Wars crew among us.

(But I have to ask: what's wrong with an extra "The" in "The Star Wars"? XD )

The thing about Lucas is he's great at the stories he creates. Even his detractors give him credit for the amazing stories he's made. I still think the film would've been better if Lucas' story treatments were kept and he was the creative consultant like he was supposed to be. But once Disney got ahold of the franchise, they didn't want Lucas involved at all.
    --- Double Post Merged, Feb 24, 2017, Original Post Date: Feb 24, 2017 ---
No, he was in favor of being involved. But he basically said that they didn't want him involved at all. So once he understood that, he distanced himself from Star Wars and let them do whatever they were going to do.
