Yes, I meant the original title. "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars" just doesn't have the same ring to it haha

Since its Star Wars 40th anniversary, how big are the chances that "the maker" blesses us with an appearance (maybe a panel) at celebration this year ? :D

I would love to see that.

I like George Lucas. He made Star Wars. I love the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy, Indiana Jones, THX-1138, American Graffiti, Willow, and the various films he made and had a part in making. He's a great filmmaker and pioneer in film as well. The only problem I have is that he hasn't put out the Original Trilogy without the special editions. I don't mind the Special Editions personally, though I'd love a proper DVD release or a Blu-Ray release of the Original unaltered Trilogy. The Special Editions are like his directors cut, and I get that because of how big his imagination is, that the original releases of the films are inferior to what he wanted to have been shown, but there are a good number of people that love the unaltered versions of those films. That aside, I still love George Lucas to what he's done for film and film making.

Has anybody ever heard/read anything about George's opinion of Flash Gordon (1980)? I've never found anything but have been curious due to his earlier interest in the film rights.

Like every sci-fi- fan, Lucas loved Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. I read about it decades ago in Skywalking by Dale Pollock, I believe. I was amazed that he loved Frank Frazetta, one of my favorite sci-fi illustrators and he loved Frazetta's Buck Roger strips. One of the things that I'll never forget from reading Skywalking, is that Lucas wanted an Asian actor to play OB1 yet Alan Ladd Jr. was against it. Films are a collaborative medium and with that we got Sir Alec. Decades later with R1 we get Chirrit.

Yeah I was aware of his love of the old serials/comics but I was curious what he thought about the 1980 film specifically. I don't know for sure but I assume George probably would have taken a very different approach with the film. And it's kind of funny how he wasn't able to secure the rights then a Flash Gordon film was released as part of the sci-fi boom that Star Wars helped create in the 70s/80s. I wonder if he was such a Flash fan that he had fun and enjoyed the movie or if he was just put off by the execution the way some people are and possibly peeved that he didn't get to make it. I enjoy it in its own fun/campy way but then again I didn't grow up on Flash Gordon the way George did.

True, but was it epic to George I wonder. Or was it as odd to him as seeing a Star Wars movie with a contemporary rock soundtrack would be to us?

We may have got SW with rock soundtrack if it wasn't for 2001: Space Odissey and its classic soundtrack.

Yeah, I'm the same way. He made my favorite movies (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) and was probably the only filmmaker who I knew by name as a kid. And as a member of the Lucasfilm Fan Club he was kind of like Santa Claus to me. While it obviously wasn't him personally sending it, I'd get all these random gifts like posters and carded action figures and it felt like a present from George. They'd make me so happy I sent the guy thank you letters. As I grew older though, as with most of my idols, I realized they were only human. I'm not a fan of some of the things he's done and said over the years but I still appreciate his work very much. I can't imagine what my childhood would have been like without Star Wars and Indy. My main gripe, like many others, has always been the Special Editions. Not so much the fact the originals aren't on sale (I have the despecialized versions on a USB stick), but just his stand-offish behavior about it. I didn't mind them either, they were really fun to see for the first time, but I never dreamed that he would try to replace the original films. But like I said I have the despecialized versions and I'm pretty much past the point of caring about an official release. It's been put off too long and in the meantime some very hard-working fans have filled the void. I've just always found it odd that George, who seems like a very nostalgic person, doesn't really seem to understand (or maybe just doesn't care) that people are nostalgic about his movies. He's a tough guy to understand but if he were just a normal guy he probably wouldn't have invented Star Wars.

Considering that Frank "The Great Wazoo" Zappa was in consideration to compose A New Hope... I'm gonna say "no".

Frank Zappa was more than just your average rock musician as I'm sure you know, he could compose/conduct symphonies or do just about anything else with music. Dude was pure genius. I've never heard/read anything specifying whether or not that story was true or legend though Has George or anybody confirmed that? The only source I've ever heard for that story was one of Frank's sons. I like to believe it's true but as much as I love Frank I'm glad Williams got the tap instead.
