I know it's way early and very little has been released or trickled out, but speculation on her role really is practically nonexistent, and I really don't like the rumor that possibly Han and Leia are not together. I know the EU is not going to be followed entirely, but at 10 years old in 1980 they were my first "ship." It would be heartbreaking knowing they aren't a couple or even have contact. I really hope someone is just pulling that one out of thin air.

Well not to judge Carrie Fisher or anything, but I think of the three she's the one we won't see much of...a glorified cameo or something...Last time I saw her act, was on Smallville, she was the editor of the Daily Planet....her acting was so awful it made those scenes painful to watch...But this was a few years ago, she might not have been in the right set of mind at the time...hope for the better, but not expecting much..

Probably a Mon Mothma kind of role, doing speeches or something like it

Well it sounds like she is the new leader of the alliance and possible mother of one or both of our protagonist(Daisy) and antagonist (Driver). So I am sure she will have a good meaty role. I am not ashamed to say that I hope Hamill gets the most screen time though :)

Yeah Mark Hamill deserve it so much...I mean he must have had a few rough year of being typecast after Star Wars but he hung in there and had an awesome career in other mediums, while remaining a regular joe (he's married to a dental Hygienist,, can't get more normal then this)

He was always grateful to be part of Star Wars and always talked about it with love and respect, on the other hand Harrison Ford couldn't care less (well not as much as Bill Murray doesn't care for a new Ghostbusters but close lol) and Carrie Fisher just made jokes about the whole process and never talked about it seriously (but with all the drugs she was taking at the time, she might not remember much lol)

Leia will replace Mon Mothma as head of the Republic Alliance after her death. I would like to see her use force powers like clairvoyance, which would be helpful to people in leadership. I would like to think that Daisy Ridley is her special representative in diplomatic affairs. She may not be with Han because he may still be a General and needed elsewhere in a huge Galaxy. They may have never married at all, and at there age romance would take a back seat to their duties.

Yeah it would be great to see Leia use the force in a purely mental way. I also think it would be funny if Han and Leia are the Star Wars equivalent of divorced and haven't talked in years. But the events in the film force them back together and they can bicker "A New Hope" style throughout the film. That would be great.

    POTENTIAL SPOILERS

She has been one of the leaders of the Republic, but has fought for years to try and bring something close to the New Republic we know from the now defunct EU. She has not revealed that she is in anyway related to Luke Skywalker, and more importantly, the late Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. Simply as a historical figure, Sith Lord status aside, Darth Vader is looked upon as a war criminal and mass murderer, and Leia decided it would be political suicide to reveal her true self. Han and Luke are the only ones that know. When we meet her in Episode 7 we see the power of her Skywalker heritage will not be ignore, and elements of the Force, both good and bad, are drawn to Leia as she succeeds Mon Mothma as leader of the Republic.

She and Luke had not spoken in years before he vanished , and he felt it would keep her safe from the dark forces being awakened in the galaxy the further he stayed away. He also felt he was a distraction to her and her efforts in building the Republic back up.

She and Han are married and were shortly after ROTJ. The Harry Potter guy is their son. He is unaware of his true lineage in the Skywalker line, and this is a major wedge between Leia and Han, whose marriage is anything but happy when we meet them in Episode 7. Han thinks he should know, but Leia does not want to tell him as to protect him, but Han believes she is doing it to protect her career. Their marriage is mostly a formality at this point, and their duties keep them seperate for the most part. The honeymoon is very much over

Both Han and Leia believe Luke is dead. That is why Han believes Leia has a responsibility to admit who she really is and carry on the Jedi, starting with their son. Leia is haunted and daunted by the task, and is a very tortured soul who puts on a politicians smile when we meet her in Episode 7.

I have a feeling that not only Luke is missing and maybe Leia is in some way turned evil.

Can't see her doing much action. Dunno unless they really get some movie magic going.

I think you are wrong there, Han would prefer his children ignore the Jedi life and live a regular life.

I agree here. A great plot point would be that Han and Leia made a go of it, had some kids, but the complications of the galaxy made them split and loose track of Luke. The new characters will probably help bring them back together.

I have a theory, as far fetched as it seems i'm sure It is the furthest thing from actual plot. That being said, in episode 4 Tarkin stated that the regional goveners had been given direct control of their territories, which makes me think a system such as Naboo would revert back to its monarchy. being as it been 30 years since the battle of endor im sure by now via force communion with Obi wan or some other method, Luke and Leia have discovered they are the last direct decendants of the Naboo royal family. so wouldn't it stand to reason given her political background that she become the new queen of Naboo? mind you this is just my theory in no way do I see this concept ever becoming cannon.

I would like to see whatever became of Naboo, but the Queen was always an elected or chosen teenage girl and succession was never hereditary.
Palpatine knew she was "young and Naïve" to propose a vote of no confidence in Supreme Chancellor Valorum.
Leia was a princess from Alderaan and it was destroyed, so I wonder why they still called her princess when she wasn't a princess of anything anymore. She became more of a leader in the rebel alliance than royalty.

Okay, when it was first revealed that Disney was making the ST my first inclinations were as follows:

1- Han and Leia were together still with a child or two (but not like the EU with twins and Anakin)
2- Leia is a Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic on Coruscant (or a Senator from Corellia)
3- Han is a general fighting battles with the Imperial remnants ion some far off sector of the galaxy

BUT now I am having thoughts that Han and Leia have split. I could easily see Leia going to Naboo in order to try to have some sort of connection to her mother. I can also see her as serving as a Senator from Naboo who accepts becoming the SC for a dying Mon Mothma.

And actually I think I LOVE the idea of connecting Leia to the Amidala's -- great connective tissue for the whole series.

Thank you, I like to think outside the box, although there are times my thinking is so far outside the box I forget where the box is, case in point as Ceruleanlord mentioned I forgot that the queen of Naboo was an elected position. Thanks for keeping me on my toes Ceruleanlord.
