I have to admit I'm pretty excited that Rey is likely a Plapatine. I remember telling people on TFN that she could very well be so, and how exercized they would become. This small thread can be one of the few interesting things that connects the three sequel films: Rey's Plapy stabbing style in TFA, her anger and aggression, her OP power, and her quick attraction to the darkside in TLJ.

Of course, despite this one good thing, everything else in the ST is trash. Poorly developed characters with no motives, ripping off past imagery due to lack of integrity, incoherent plots and zero story.

Any parallels (what you call ripping off) I see as a means to introduce a new generation to the Saga. For instance when Poe and his squadron are in the trench to blow up the oscillator on Starkiller Base (TFA), its reminiscent of the trench scene in ANH, but it differs enough to be unique. Of course some things are going fo be recycled, but that’s natural and frankly unavoidable.

I think Rey is part of the unstated reason Ben began to fell to the dark side all those years ago, so she's a Skywalker through Leia like Kylo Ren is. None of the leaks have anything about Kylo Ren's backstory and this whole rumored Palpatine business is either wrong or misunderstood: i.e. Palpatine created Anakin (which was in an early draft for Revenge of the Sith as seen in Rinzler's book) and thus Anakin's descendants.

SW:TLJ Novelization: “'Target the main bridge,' [Kylo Ren] said. His mother would be there, he knew. It wasn’t Leia Organa’s style to lead from the rear, or to put her own concerns above whatever cause she held dear at a given moment. For a moment Kylo let himself recall his parents’ worried conversations behind closed doors, the ones they’d deluded themselves into thinking he wouldn’t know about. Conversations about the anger and resentment that had boiled over once again in their son. Conversations in which they talked about him like he wasn’t their son, but some kind of monster. They were frightened of him, he realized. And so they got rid of him, sending him away to his uncle Luke—whose betrayal would prove far worse. But Ben Solo was no more—Kylo had shed his childhood identity and the pathetic weakness it represented. Han Solo’s days of cheating and disappointing people were over. The New Republic was destroyed. And now the Resistance—the last of his mother’s causes—would follow it into extinction." (March 6, 2018)

    Star Wars: Resistance Reborn: "
[Rey:] “Kylo Ren. He’s your son . . .” Ah. Leia nodded and drank from her now cooling cup. Rey squirmed uncomfortably in her seat. “What happened to him?” [Rey] finally asked. “I mean, how did he turn to the dark side? He started in the light, didn’t he? He told me a story about Luke, about his training.” She exhaled. “I guess I just want to understand.” [Leia:] “I do, too.” [Rey:] “So you don’t know?” [Leia:] “I think you would have to ask Ben what happened to him.”
    (November 5, 2019)

Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi: "Luke Skywalker: '[Kylo Ren] might now be known as the First Order's most feared warrior, but Kylo Ren didn't always walk the path of darkness. Long ago, he was one of my Padawans in the new Jedi Order. But we shared far more than just our devotion to the old ways. We shared the fabled Skywalker blood. The son of my friend Han Solo and my sister, Leia, Ben Solo was my nephew, my responsibility, and my greatest failure. Leia could see the darkness taking hold of her son and entrusted me with helping Ben find balance. Yet as the darkness continued to grow in the boy, I wasn't strong enough to stop it from taking hold. My mistakes pushed Ben further away from the light - and he dragged the galaxy into the darkness with him. After he burned our temple to the ground and slaughtered any students who refused to follow him to the dark side, Ben donned a mask, like his grandfather before him, and took a new name, claiming his place at the side of Supreme Leader Snoke.'" (November 12, 2019)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: "HAN: There's nothing more we could have done. There's too much Vader in [our son].
LEIA: That's why I wanted him to train with Luke. I just never should have sent him away. That's when I lost him. That's when I lost you both.
HAN: We both had to deal with it in our own way. I went back to the only thing I was ever any good at.
    LEIA: We both did."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: "LUKE: I saw darkness [when I looked into Ben's mind]. I'd sensed it building in him. I'd seen it in moments during his training. But then I looked inside, and it was beyond what I ever imagined."

Though it's been weakened like the Leia reveal in the OT was weaker than the Luke OT reveal (it's not about surprises but about what you do with them in the aftermath and the journey is more important than the destination), it still offers the strongest gestalt switch/shift on the prior events and movies.

    White after L3-37 Day? Really?

    6BD61088-B0E9-4F7A-BADB-5CA8667A4FC5.jpeg

    Joking :D

I love the homage to Leia with the white hood. Which begs the question is Rey really Jaina Solo? I mean Kylo Ren is obviously Jacen Solo/ Darth Cadeus.

Daisy Ridley: “The parents thing is not satisfied — for [Rey] and for the audience. That’s something she’s still trying to figure out — where does she come from?” “It’s not that she doesn’t believe it, but she feels there’s more to the story. And she needs to figure out what’s come before so she can figure out what to do next…” (November 19, 2019) (post-TLJ quote archive) (secrecy archive)

Yes, she's Jaina Solo.:) LOL, I have no idea, but I'm onboard with her being that. I know I'm opening myself to getting picked on about wanting her to be a Skywalker or Solo, but I'm going to hold out hope that we get some sort of reveal like that in TROS. One thing I don't want is her to be is a Palpatine. Ugh, really? I hate that idea and would rather her remain a "random nobody" than tie her to Sheev.

I think Lucasfilms and Disney will probably play it close to the vest and tell the EU/Legends but with slight alterations. Like instead of Jacen Solo it is Ben Solo which is combo Ben Skywalker name but with Jacen/Darth Cadeus’s backstory.

Seems like the most likely scenario. Making her a Solo or a Skywalker doesn't really make sense or offer any kind of impact to the story. Fisher can't really act that out in a way that would work. Luke having a lost child revealed now would just be terrible.

The granddaughter of Palpatine vs the grandson of Anakin Skywalker kind of makes sense. It means her parents really didn't matter which was true.

I agree and I feel like this is the most logical route to go, though they are not always logical with these movies. I just cannot fathom that the main hero of what's being touted as the final movie of the Skywalker saga is some random nobody or a freaking Palpatine.

I agree, Rey isn’t a nobody. I feel that dislouge between her and Kylo about her “having no part in this story,” and “being a child of junk traders that sold her for drinking momey,” was a ruse to get people off the trail of her linage tell The Rise of Skywalkwr reveal. As for heir of Palpatine, I suspect that is remote, since she is the heroine and Luke Skywalker heir apparent so far.

Why does her DNA matter so much to you? I really don't understand this obsession. Is Obi-Wan less of a character because we haven't seen his 23 and Me profile? It's like Rey can't stand on her own as a character unless she's like Luke.

Its more of we (I usually don’t speak for others, but I have read a few who agree) want a deeper backstory. That she is strong in the Force because “The Force is strong in our family.. my father has it, I have it, and my sister has it.” (Luke, ROTJ). Its not that Rey has no merits on her own, it just would connect her to larger story and end The Skywalker Saga with a grand finale. We haven’t seen a powerful female Skywalker, Leia doesn’t count with her space floating; I mean a lady Skywalker capable of dueling with lightsaber and more. This is a reason I want Rey to be Skywalker or Solo, to show this family has strong women Jedi (Leia doesn’t count because she didn’t become a Jedi, Rey is committed, she trained with Luke and has the Sacred Jedi texts).

Oh DailyPlunge, I come back to post after months of being gone and you're already trying to start an argument!:p:p Like I said above, the idea that the main hero of the ST is a Palpatine doesn't sit right with me. I'm not going to get myself worked up at this point over what's just a rumor though. And yes, I do think Rey needs more substance as a character.

Yes, thank you! I definitely want a deeper a backstory for her and repeating over and over that it's the Skywalker saga and then having it end with a Palpatine be the hero is a big no for me.

No problem. I think JJ will keep Rey in the Light. Abrams tends fo stick with tradition (see his Star Trek films) and if he changes anything its usually minor like Kirk dying instead of Spock in “Into The Darkness.” Its essenrially the same story, but tweaked. Wheras RJ wanted to explore the deeper psyche of the Jedi and it did not sit well with everyone; although I enjoyed it.

Also, I don't get why people just can't believe that sweet, little, innocent Kylo might have lied to Rey. I mean, really? Five minutes after that scene, he lied to Hux and said Rey killed Snoke. We've already been told by JJ and Daisy that there is more to Rey's parents and it will be "satisfying." I guess everyone's definition of satisfying is different, but sticking with the Rey's parents were losers that sold her, but her grandpa is the galaxy's biggest baddie doesn't sound like crowd pleasing answer, but who knows?

I agree, Kylo “is a Sith, he lies!” (Variation of Reynald de Chattlion, Kingdom of Heaven). I am glad you brought up Kylo lies to Hux about the death of Snoke right after. Proving nothing the New Supreme Commander says should be taken as absolute truth. What I believe is Ben is jealous of his more powerful sister Rey; he is insecure and weaker, she is resolute and strong.

I am almost certain Sheev will be no one’s parent; in his teachings in the “Book of Sith” he concerns himself with not picking a more powerful and smarter apprentice: in fact he almost rebels against Darth Bane’s Rule of Two because he won’t pick an apprentice that can outwit him, even Vader is a slave because he believes Palyps is the only one who knows the Plagueis secret of saving a life, and using it to save Padme.
