I agree that we'd need to gain some, narrative speaking, from it. It would be silly to find out Rey is a descendant of Porkins if it doesn't really play into either her character or the story at all.

I'm not sure that it's necessarily made clear that she is a nobody in 8, though. Heavily implied, for sure. But, for better or for worse, I think they left themselves some wiggle room.

I guess given the points you made, that it's interesting to think about in regards to Qi'ra. And maybe, after so many other fan theories, I've just gotten desensitized to the idea. Heck, maybe that's Disney's plan all along- introduce so many possibilities so as to make any one specific fan theory no more likely than the next. But I just feel like we don't have enough info yet.

Hopefully Qi'ra's character can be further developed in a Solo sequel, assuming the peanut gallery hasn't ruined that possibility.

It still is. Kylo Ren is the second main character of the ST.

Maybe this love gives the story resonance? Kylo gets saved by love, while Anakin was destroyed by love.

I do agree there is some daylight here as it was pointed out shortly after 8 that Ren could be lying. If performing narrative surgery, it would not be a good idea to go that direction, but instead go with the fact that there was a story behind how she ended up with a couple of drunks that Claimed to be her parents, and sold her off for drinking money. Its there that you can really perform a decent narrative graft.

But then, it isn't about having enough info, its about making blast up in order to try to retcon what was given. Make no mistake there. Its emergency narrative surgery because this stuff wasn't planned. They drove it into a narrative ditch, and they need to find their way out.

At this point, I don't think there is any hope at a Solo sequel. But as stated, the character of Qi`Ra has real potential,
particularly given what happened to her and the fact she ended up essentially working for the Empire, hence the Darth Maul reference.

That will be enough of this type of posting behavior. You've already been told once about the blanket statements.. give it a rest; you don't speak for everyone.

And as for the rest, I'd like to refer you to our rules and regs, especially this section:

This is a STAR WARS website by the fans for the fans. It is presumed you are a Star Wars fan, and that like all Star Wars fans you have aspects of the series that you really like, and other aspects of it that you might not like. While thoughtful criticism is part of healthy discourse, there is a fine line between criticism and outright bashing. When criticism becomes inflammatory, insulting and disrespectful to other fans, it impinges upon their right to discuss and express their enjoyment of everything Star Wars. This is, of course, unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

This site is intended for the social enjoyment of ALL who enter. We must all be mindful of this, and refrain from creating an environment in which forum members feel uncomfortable in expressing themselves. If you are here simply to bash the Star Wars franchise and its fans, then take it to another website where that kind of behavior is considered acceptable. It has no place here, and will be grounds for permanent banning.

Be respectful and considerate of other forum members' opinions, even if you disagree with them, and we'll all get along just fine.

The rest of the rules can be found here, in case you (or anyone) would like to brush up on some things:

Rey Random is in my eyes path to division of Star Wars support in half.
While many like it , many would not accept it and will lose interest for Star Wars. My self to.Ending of Skywalker saga with main hero who is not Skywalker is abomination for many.
Rey Skywalker is better path strategically. We are talking about just one last film of Skywalker saga.
I am sure randomers would be satissfied with many random heroes in the upcoming Star Wars films and trilogies.
Contrary, Rey Skywalkers will be dissapointed and will never ever find comfort for been betrayed in what was just a last one film, and thus many will leave.

So its actually will Disney /LSL cut one arm of Star Wars or not.

Here is how it should be done.

This is how it should look.

Just as we have already seen, there will always be people on both sides of the fence. The movie makers will go one way or the other according to their vision, not the varying visions of many fans. I think it is our job as fans is to be passionate about what we love but be open to what is given to us by the makers. If you like it great, if not, that is fine too.

I feel Rey will be random. The purported purpose of the trilogy was to pass the baton to the next generation. Generation as in the next group of people, not necessarily generation as in the next Skywalker. Doesn't mean there will not be a Skywalker though. For me, one thing the trilogy is showing and what Luke said in TLJ, is that the force doesn't just belong to the Jedi or the Sith and their views. To a lesser extent, this could mean it doesn't belong to the Skywalkers either. With the Jedi of old and sith gone, the force is now awaking and calling on different people for different reasons such as Rey and broom boy. A new fresh start for the galaxy away from its calling on Anakin Skywalker and the turn the galaxy took. . Just my opinion though.

You can retcon Rey to be a Skywalker. Requires to much explanation. People dont like Luke mood in TLJ and say he would never have a momentary fleeting instinct to kill Kylo. OK, but he abandons a child and gives her to Unkar plutt. Oh you say he just had an affair and the woman abandoned her. Ok what does that do other then make her the child of a random who was impregnated by Luke. It doesnt change the story, it doesnt change who she is. All it does is maintain a bloodline. What is she supposed to be some champion horse of show dog? 1000s of year Jedi have come from randoms. We dont need Rey to be blood of Luke.

Then the other choice is daughter of Leia. One how do you do the flashbacks without Carrie Fisher and how hell do you explain the separation. Seems like the same thing. Lets make Rey a show horse.

I'm basically in the same position.

Not only this, but with the likelihood that they go with Reylo? The last thing I want to see is her 'redeem' him, such that they then, go off and make babies. How is that any type of satisfying conclusion to the overall narrative?

Hey buddy... you and your friends killed billions of people, took over the Galaxy... but guess what... you repented and are 'redeemed' and Rey is all yours now pal. Just what the what?

Remember what I said. You do not backtrack unless you gain something. Part of that, is gaining another trilogy with which to properly end the Saga. If all you're going to do is one last movie, you're pretty much stuck with a happy ending of some sort, and without much time, they may feel boxed into simply going Reylo. This is the other problem with a 2-year cycle for the Saga films. If they're going to freeball their story while they're making it, it takes more time than that to really lock in something good. Lucas may have done similar, but he had 3 years between movies to really get things straightened out.

The Marvel stuff? The Thanos Infinity arc has been around for a quarter century. They started reworking the Guardians to their current form in the funnybooks 10 years before they ever made the screen. They play the long game and its paid off in spades, Lucasfilm is constantly trying to simply get something out.

Its even worse on a general one a year cycle. Unless you have a good idea of the characters and how they fit within your overall arc... in advance... you're going to have a rough go of it because you'll continually keep running out of time for the cake to bake sufficiently. And the left hand won't know what the right hand is doing.
One of the biggest knocks on the current SW films is that they've been a never ending cycle of death and destruction. If a character with big potential is introduced(Jyn, Holdo, etc)… they get clipped before the end of the movie. They're spending hundreds of millions to create what? All I've seen is tear-down. By the time TLJ was done, you could fit the New Rebel Alliance in the Millennium Falcon.

As I said many would like, many would not like Rey random. I would not because it was unnecessary for the last chapter of Skywalker trilogy in my eyes. Totaly unncessary for last films of Skywalker trilogy. Even if it was neccessary it should have been done in much more subtile way and with sense for feelings of many fans who adored Luke Skywalker.
They simply rushed in with cutting old heroes most notably Luke like a fast train is comming and they would not catch the train.
    Where is train going?

Of course its more probable Rey will be random but in this case I am sure Star Wars can not anymore count on support as before. I mean that is already obvious.

Rey random shiping in TLJ is checked and on hold for many including me who are simply waiting to see in ep .IX was it really done to leave .

    Didn't stop them from
bringing Darth Maul magically back to life. Where was that explanation?

And what makes you think Luke would be her father?

No thanks to Qi'ra as Rey's mom. As for Rey's parents, I still think there's chance that the issue could be revisited in Ep. IX. Unfortunately, I'm way past the point of caring after TLJ. Maybe they'll put her into the Skywalker family or maybe they'll just leave her as random super force user Mary Sue. Then I can continue to call her Mary Sue and enrage some nice people around here.:p;)

Ok I will play along. If she isnt Luke or Leia's daughter then what Skywalker supplied the DNA? I mean that is what this is getting down to. No connections, no logical story, just DNA because we need her to have Secretariat Bloodlines.

There is a story concept that perfectly explains Rey's parentage in a way that will be understandable even to a children while pleasing even most demanding SF intellectuals.
For the risk it could be actually story plot of ep .IX I can not post this scenario.

Its fan made scenario based on known data , hints, novels, interviews , filming reports and educated guesses ,made mostly by me with the help of people from Jedi Shadow Council , and is enveloping, it explains everything .It is just question what does LSL wants.

We have perfect back story and is not Rey random story (random story is not story at all, actually, it brings nothing to ep IX .)

No 'sex' involved. Just experiments and science into the reproductive capacity, or lack thereof, of The Chosen One, by one Darth Sideous.

Why!!!!!! What does it do for the story other then give her some DNA. It so limits the story going forward. I guess for powerful Jedi we need to somehow always keep them related to a Skywalker.

Because it fits the story. We know Sideous was all up in experiments into 'influencing The Force to Create Life'. That's canon. I'm suggesting Rey is the outcome of one of those. That gives her a rock hard anchor to the story being told, and doesn't just set her adrift as a Random who has powers for no tangible reason other than what... winner of some Genetic Lottery?

I mean... are you suggesting she's basically the first of the X-men? Seems like a different story!

OK so what does it do for the story how do you get that information to the GA? Who the hell knows to tell Rey? Not to mention Jedi have been around for thousands of years with no need to be from some bloodline. You just mentioned one of the most powerful force users ever. Do we need to know who Sideous mom and dad were? After all he may have been the most powerful Sith ever we need him to have DNA to make sure he wasnt just some winner of the genetic lottery.
