I'm not the biggest FW fan, he always seems to just be trying to prove he's an actor (an AC-TORRR) and hams it up a bit.

Whitaker is an "AC-TORRR". I've been a fan of his for a long time, whether he was hammy or not.

Well if his performance is anything like in Vantage Point he will be fine...I prefer a more subdued performance from him from what we see in the trailers...I said earlier that what I'd like to see is, Saw, in the beginning after what he's experienced during TCW and all he's a broken man and timid but is inspired to raise the alarm and help the rebels excel and successfully steal the plans.

Agree with the Phasma comment. She has a lot of potential. For starters, she is a fierce warrior with a Valyrian steel sword... oh wait, wrong saga. But I still hope they give a better use for her character on Episode VIII.

Yeah, I am happy they are doing that. So far from what I have seen of TCW, it widens the perspective of a GFFA introducing new characters and planets so they could be used later on the canon stories and give continuity, but at the same time not making it feel like it is a small galaxy.

I just went back and looked at Saw's entry in Ultimate Star Wars and it has a detail everyone missed, stating that he "becomes a key figure in the rebellion against the Empire."

I think she has been overrated.
Phasma is an inconsistent character : she's supposed to be the troppers chief, but just because of an old man, an ex stromtrooper and a big giant plush, she instantly deactivate all the StarKiller shields, leading to certain death the weapon, plus hundreds of troopers, plus all the Military Hight Command center... something is wrong, a real soldier would rather die than send all his friends/weapons to null!
I think that Disney overused the fact that a female (and not just any : Gwendoline Christie!) would play the role, just to make the fandom hysterical.

Well, this is SAM GERRERA thread ;)

I haven't seen the movie yet (of course!), but I already have a big problem : his eyes.
Sam has blue eyes in TCW, he will have marron ones in Rogue One. blast. That is NOT POSSIBLE ! Eyes color DO NOT CHANGE, in any way.

How will they manage that plothole ?

Anyone can change their eye color for any reason you could possibly imagine here anytime they wish, why is inconceivable in a world with faster-than-light travel and lightsabers?

*edit* eye color can change naturally, too. That is not unheard of.

Eye color does not really concern me. If they do the character right and get the essence of Saw Gerrera it makes no difference to me what his eye color is.

with contact lenses, no doubt ;).... but naturally this is not possible : eye color is actually due to genetic. Eye color is the result of an inherited trait, and several genes influence it.
That means you cannot change it with just a pencil, or just because you want.

Can you give us one proof? Just one. Give us just ONE proof of natural changing, and we will consider you are right.
Ask the web : only exist 4 ways of changing the eye color : make-up, contact lenses, surgery... or Photoshop.

Ok, I'll bite. Keeping in mind we are dealing with a FICTIONAL universe with seemingly LIMITLESS medical technology, here is something from OUR world that actually does what you say is impossible.

OR! He used some kind of enhancing drugs during his lifetime of warfare and one of the side effects was turning his eyes brow,

Or.... whatever! Sheesh, are you seriously looking for a reason to throw shade so hard that you can't move past his freaking eye color? Seriously? Laughable at best.

The problem I see is not an "eye color" problem.
The problem I see is : to make real a character, the storybook chooses an actor that does not match that character. That is actually the real big problem: things are done with no sense. (*)

When George Lucas, in episode 3, during order 66, chose to show Jedi on screen: he made Aayla a blue twi'lek, because so is she described and drawn in the EU; he made Plo Koon a brown-faced-Kel Dor, because so has he been designed in the EU; and so on.
    This is called "continuity".

(*) oh, let me think one thing... this affair smeels like C3PO red arm in TFA : for sure, we will soon be given a book, or a comic, explaining us how Saw passed from blue to brown eyes...

While I think that the eyecolor thing is being a little overly picky, I have to say I think the real issue is just the entire concept of taking an animated character in general and translating it to live action film. We have seen this in other films where they are based on comics or cartoons and people don't like the way the character looks in the live action version. Some people might accuse those criticizing as being overly critical or just being a whiny entitled fan.

My problem with all this animated SW stuff isn't the look of the characters but just the concept of taking characters from a kids animated show (people can claim they aren't kids shows all they want but they are) and inserting them into stories and films that directly affect the core characters of SW. That being said, as long as these characters don't ultimately end up messing with the stories as we know them (the films) then I wont be upset about it so we will see how RO pans out and who lives and who dies. Rebels really put a bad taste in my mouth for a few reasons. While it is cool to hear the voices of the real actors do some of the characters, I don't like how multiple kids shows are putting in force users in training pre OT. This cheapens Luke's story a bit to me. Rebels and that other Lego series on Disney XD both have these kids who are learning the ways of the force and they both take place shortly before the OT. Luke (and Leia) being the only hope was what really drove the OT story and now we are adding all these other youth force users in outside media. I understand that they can kill them off or explain then away etc. but to me its just kind of cheapening some of the OT story elements to sell merchandise and have more SW media out there making money. Sorry if i come off grumpy about it. I promise I'm not I just don't like even the idea of messing with the force related OT characters gusto.

Back on the Saw subject, I think he is a small enough role character that it won't really matter and being that he looks to be old I wouldn't be surprised if he is killed off in RO.

    Fail.
Heterochromia is when your two eyes have distinct colors, like that girl:

The problem we are talking about is an eye (or both) who change color during life.

of course, it is just "the top of the iceberg".
The main problem is a non-continuity behaviour with what has been established before.
When Filoni wrote SW Rebelz and chose to get Ahsoka back, she looked like she was in TCW. She did not become a twilek, nor change her eyecolor, nor anything...

    LOL

You are ridiculous. From the National Institute of Health:

"Most cases of heterochromia are hereditary, caused by a disease or syndrome, or due to an injury. Sometimes one eye may change color following certain diseases or injuries."

Which is pretty clear that it can be caused by external forces.

Either way, you are showing how childish you are by not being able to budge on eye color in a world where one can lift things with their mind or shoot lightening from their fingertips. Really, dude. I am not sure how you deal with anything within the Star Wars universe.

Perhaps I am a child, but for sure you don't understand what I say. I wrote "The main problem is a non-continuity behaviour with what has been established before.".
I don't know how to better explain "main problem" and "non continuity". You still read "eye color". I give up, sorry.

Yes exactly bringing characters from the larger canon is very good for all. Especially in anthology films.
