My good friends from England, @Maximus, @Lazarus Dei, @Addi Ras, live in the country that developed the world's finest fighter aircraft ever created, the Supermarine Spitfire. I am envious of you gentlemen as you can visit several air museums there to see actual Spitfires, also there are many still flyable.

IMO the Spitfire is also the most beautiful looking, and sounding, aircraft ever made.

This thread is dedicated to those young, brave pilots of the RAF in 1940 during the Battle of Britain. Britain only had 640 aircraft to stand up to Germany's 2,600, and the average age of an RAF fighter pilot at that time was 20 YEARS OLD. RAF pilots were supposed to have 40 flying hours of training in their fighters before going into battle, but due to aircraft shortages at the time the average Spitfire/Hurricane pilot only had 23 hours!!!

Here are some of my favorite Spitfire videos, movie scenes, and pictures

Hermann Goering, leader of the German Luftwaffe, asks a couple of his fighter pilots what they need the most....they answer "give us a squadron of Spitfires" (this from the movie The Battle of Britain)

Another scene from Battle of Britain....German Heinkel bomber formation heading into England. At 1:02 the German gunner screams "Spitfire!".....at 2:58, William Walton's awesome BoB theme kicks in.....it ends with the famous radio call "Home...and tea! "

OK....Christopher Nolan....Dunkirk....holy crap did he just get the Spitfire scenes right!!! Hair standing up.....at :30-:37 "Rolls Royce Merlin engines - sweetest sound you could hear"

16 Spitfire flyby - get some good headphones , put them on , and CRANK the first 30 or so seconds of this.....skip to 3:12 and CRANK THIS....high speed pass, you can hear the whistle and the Merlin sounds so SWEET here

another from Dunkirk....here is "Fortis 1 over the beach".....one of the prettiest Spitfire scenes ever on film

@Adam Burt A lot of my friends here in the USA mention the P-51 Mustang.....which is a fine aircraft, but it still comes in 2nd to the Spitfire

I'd have the Spitfire as the greatest fighter of all time, it was at the front throughout the Second World war.

Don't forget the Hurricane though, it was the plane that saved Britain in the Battle of Britain, the Hurricane shot down more enemy aircraft than all the other allied planes put together.

I used to have a wii and i played this world war 2 ship game. Love world war 2 fighter planes. They look elegant and they are highly effective when it comes to taking down their enemies in the sky.
