I agree, although I enjoyed TLJ, I think it was overly divisive.

I'm still puzzled as to why you're linking to that when I was answering your question "is Rj still working on his trilogy?" Yes. He's still working on it. It was confirmed again today by Kennedy who is meeting with him next month about the next ten years.
Rian Johnson's next project is released in November and they finished filming five months ago. He'll probably be done soon with that. He just said a few days ago he'll be returned to Star Wars soon.

It's good that Lucasfilm is gonna map out the next ten year so they won't be rushing to make these films like this did with this trilogy. It's amazing how well they've turned out considering how quickly Disney wanted them released. Disney has made a load of money now and Lucasfilm can concentrate on TV and film. Marvel is doing the same.

I think it's Zorii, Keri Russell's bounty hunter character. Beyond the trailer host Grace Randolph stated this and I agree, I'm not saying she is right but it's plausible.

Any movie studio's plan for anything beyond the next 3 to 4 years isn't even worth the paper it is printed on, especially in today's industry climate. We know Iger is retiring in 2 years and it is hardly a stretch the think Kennedy will retire within the next 4 years (by age 70) if not sooner. If you think 5 years from now their successors are going to feel beholden to something written on a piece of paper in May of 2019 instead of wanting to do their own thing, then you just don't know how things work in the movie industry (or the corporate world, for that matter).

Even when the phenomenally successful MCU released a 5 year plan in 2014, they still made some serious changes. 3 movies were pushed back, they added one movie to the plan and also took one movie away. And that was trying to map out 5 years, not 10. The further away you try to predict, the inaccuracies only increase exponentially.

It's completely natural for a studio to make long term plans. No where in the Hollywood Reporter article does it mention that a plan would be carved into a tablet never to be changed. If the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss stuff fails miserably of course things would change. Of course things change over time. That doesn't mean they won't attempt to plan out the next ten years.

"Long term" like 5 years, yes.
"Long term" like 10 years, no.

The further out you go on the road map, the more inaccurate it becomes - and anything beyond 5 years is beyond worthless. The 10-year map KK is making will give us a decent indication of what to expect between now and 2024 (most likely the B&W movies). It will tell us absolutely nothing about 2025 and forward.

One thing I'm excited about wasn't in the teaser but in one of the photos presented at the panel. Sure looks like we'll be making a return trip to Bespin, however brief! I know, probably a given with Lando in the film, but I love Bespin

People, try not to bicker and enjoy the moment - we just got a peek into a new SW movie.

As for Rian doing his new trilogy, Kennedy confirmed it just yesterday, there is an article on IGN.

After letting it all sink in over night, I think I think its a solid trailer.

    Things I liked:
    • Loved the the every generation has a legend bit taking us back to that awesome Phantom Menace trailer, really great they linked the episode 1 and 9 trailers together that way!! brilliant work whoever that idea was! Got goose bumps at that point.
    • The Rey Flip looked awesome, i can't wait to see wait to see that scene on the big screen.
    • It was really cool to see the wreckage of the death star, (seems to make more sense that it would be Endor as thats where Palpatine died, and from what I remember their was Ocean in the one of the Ewok movies wasn't there?)
    • Was cool to Kylo in action, nice to see him been made to look strong again, he's meant to have all this raw power, I'd like to see a bit more of that side of him.
    • I liked the Luke voice over,I don't suspect we will be getting much of Luke in the film beyond a couple of scenes, so its great to hear anything from him
    • I liked that they didn't go with a will he won't he turn good trailer, we had that with the Last Jedi, even if Kylo/Ben does get redeemed (which is I suspect is where we are heading) Im glad they didn't lead with that, if it happens let it happen naturally in the film.
    • I liked that The new "big Three" where all together on an adventure, looking forward to spending time with them all as one unit.
    • I like that they didn't dwell on the mystery of Rey, whether their are further reverlations about her past or not, I am glad they didnt build it up, I want them to develop her as a character, which I think has been stunted a bit by the need to keep her a mystery.
    • No Hux, please let that mean that he only has a tiny role in the film
    • The best bit obviously was the end though, the no ones really gone followed by the cackle. Think its a bold move brining back Sidious, it could go terribly an feel like they have ran out of ideas, but i think they needed to bring in another villainous presence after they offed Snoke, with Kylo been a conflicted character and Hux been a comedy character, they needed a more ominous presence, and after the prequels Palpatine for me is probably the most interesting star wars character so i will get a kick out of seeing him on screen, even if its just as a Force Ghost.
Things I was less keen on:
    • I guess the main thing is i'm not a fan of the title, just feels a bit clunky, a bit too fan fiction. of course a lot is gonna depend on context, for me it signifies that Ben is almost certainly going to be redeemed, I would also guess Rey will likely take the mantle of a Skywalker even if not one by blood. I do like the fan theory about the next generation of force users been called Skywalkers though, it would redeem the title a bit for me.
    • I would have liked to have seen Rey build her own lightsaber, not repair Anakins, would have been cool to see her build a staff like lightsaber.
    • The sand barge bit reminded me a bit too much of Return of the Jedi, i'm hoping thats where the similarities ends.
    • Not a fan of another Rey breathing opening.
    • Think this trailer puts to bed any chance of their been more Jedi then Rey in the film, which means this film is likly to finish leaving the galaxy in exactly the same state and place as it was at the end of Return of the Jedi, with Rey having to rebuild the good side force users after the defeat of the evil force users while the rebellion has to rebuild the republic after the defeat of the Evil Empire/First order. I was really hoping they would find away to leave us in a different place so it set this trilogy apart a bit more. And having had the Jedi getting started to be rebuilt between 8 & 9 would have been one way to do that.
Over all though good solid trailer, Star Wars has such a history of making insanely good trailers, I don't think this quite met that level, but was still really good by other films trailer standards.

    Absolutely this.
And in my opinion, sometimes little details are forgotten, and JJ knows how to put the camera to express something (what majority of blockbuster directors lack of it). People maybe have not analyzed properly the evolution of the camera work in TFA, especially involving the character of Kylo Ren. It's a sublime director's work.

The camera in the first sequence of the teaser is absolutely brilliant. How approaches to Rey, with the tempo of the breathing. Is subtle. Then goes down in the same shot to the saber. And the shot directly from the sand, while the camera rotates, to follow in the same shot the landscape, and the ship, is sublime. JJ doesn't put the camera randomly, like all superheroes directors. He thinks just a little bit where to put it to express something. in a classic way. Star Wars doesn't need shaky cameras, and JJ knows that (Rian also did a proper job about this).
And then Rey's jump. Dear Lord...

I kinda got the "feeling" that Rey is a Skywalker, and that Kylo lied to her. Hiding the truth of her real bloodline and making himself the only member of the Skywalker family.

In all honesty, I cannot say that I am hyped. But I am surely positive and intrigued. Even relieved to some degree.

And yes: @Jaxxon and @Madmartigan I love too JJ's use of the camera. The way he "opens" the landscapes and the sense of grandeur that comes with it.
At the same time, there are some little/tuny details that he puts in, that to me speak for themselves, more than dialogues sometimes.
And the use of the fotography it's just my cup of tea.

I love it. From this standpoint TFA is probably my favourite.

I hope Palpatine will be in some type of force vision in Ep 9. Hope he doesnt come back from the dead in any form honestly. If hes just a Sith ghost like Exar Kun then that's not as bad, but I really dont want him revived or taking over a body. I really am intrigued by this teaser though. Looks like we are in for a hell of a ride

The mystery box is clearly the title. Add to that that JJ said it has multiple meanings and that we have to wait and see the movie to understand it all.
But, Palpatine in the in TT is weird...as well.
They surely want us to talk about the movie, to speculate etc... and that's why he is there, mainly.

But I suspect that just because he is there, then "big surprise" is another one.

    DS1 or DS2?

I think it's DS2 on Endor (but does it have oceans?) - the final (?) resting place of Palpatine. I assume they're going to search it.

Anyway, it reminded me of an Uncharted or Tomb Raider type game. That'd be a cool genre of game for the SW Universe: search wreckages and ruins. Jedha, Maz's Castle, Jabba's Palace...

Yeah it's really out of nowhere. Its smart marketing I suppose to throw in his laugh. It's possible something about Sidious is revealed in Ep 9 that adds to the canon lore, and that's why they added the Sidious laugh. I doubt he will make a return as a concious living being, atleast I hope he doesnt because that feels like too big of a retcon to me.

It's possible like people on here have mentioned that we learn Sidious created Anakin. The Vader #25 marvel comic strongly suggests it.

I hope that sequence will in fact be indeed in the movie and not only a "trailer-thing" that ends up being cut.

Can't see them cutting it out, their are theories its a dream thats why she has Lukes Lightsaber looking all new which would be disappointing.

Personally Im hoping its the end of act two, cos I think we have face it the Kylo is been redeemed, Im hoping they don't to it at the end of the film as that would just be to similar to Return of the Jedi, so this scene could be Rey Taking down and capturing Kylo and finding away to bring him to the light early on.

I know. I wasn't being totally serious in suggesting it might be Darth Maul.

Although I think there is more chance of Maul being in this movie than Darth Plagueis...

Of course, if it turns out it IS Maul (and it could be, as part of a dream vision maybe!), then you read it here first and I will claim dibs on having predicted it! :)

    That's my bet too.
Like I said, Rise of Skaywalker can also be a reference to the actual birth of Anakin.
And of course if Sidius is somehow responsable of that then the overall picture changes a bit.
Surely enough to make the ST the story of how that "interference" in the will of the force can be fixed entirely
without changing the core of the prophecy as we know it or the meaning of balance... but by adding nuances to that.
That's fine per se. We won't need nothing more to give closure to the story. You just have to add Rey into picture as the one who has to fixe that and can finally help the galaxy and what's left of the Jedi teachings to move forward, into a new era.

But to add something else... I always had the feeling that Snoke's words to Kylo in TFA when he said "If Skywalker returns" were meant to be foreshadowing of the endgame. In context they are about Luke, but... that title... I cannot help but think that my haedcanon (Anakin reborn in the end) can have a chance. However, that's exactly why the title is 100% good marketing. Everyone can see whatever he/she wants.
