I haven't noticed that. I assumed they find the death star in the FIRST ACT – in fact, an object that big can't be that hard to find.

Yes. Whenever you hear that line you immediately think of the good guys, your nearest and dearest who will never leave you. Flipping it round, "No one's ever really gone" can mean that the Big Bad is still around too. Chilling thought.

I don't think hight is the issue. It is more is she rising fast enough to get over the tie or going up at just the right speed to land believeably.

Luck the shot is in slow mo so they can cheat all that!!

This can easily explained with under ground oceans which fill in the creater

I’ve had no excitement to see Episode IX.

A combination of things - that I want the Empire vs Rebels thing for the OT era and the sequels to be new, that the release date is far away and there are plenty of other movies in the meantime and that vile social media activity (didn’t read it but knowing it happens it horrible).

    That has changed.

I knew the trolls were Star Wars fans but it did the heart good to hear the cheats for Kathleen Kennedy and Kelly Marie Tran.

The general enthusiasm of Kennedy, Abrams and the cast and BB-8’s new sidekick (is it D-O ? Or a different spelling) make me happy,

The character of Jannah looks great - especially the hair. It is like a design we’d see in the animation.

I don’t do trailers and had dettermined I wouldn’t even look at the teaser this time but I couldn’t resist.

Rey is getting to use Jedi athletics - I jumped of the couch in delight. And this time Abrams is delivering some over the top Star Wars action that was sorely missing in TFA.

And from this teaser it looks like Abrams has followed Rian Johnson example and is giving the movie a style of it own.

I had hoped Rey would get a new costume design. The previous costumes are great I just like seeing new designs but I love that it it white.

The end of the teaser has me unbalanced me though. Once the surprise of that laugh and seeing Ian McDiarmid was fine I was left confused. I’m both eager to see what this means but also worried that Abrams has once again regurgitated a villain rather than do something new.

I’m trying to bury my concerns and presumptions. Using stormtroopers and a “new Vader” instead of something new was a wasted opportunity and my initial reaction to the Emperor is this undies RotJ. However this could very easily be a great use of the character that adds to the mythology and the Emperor surviving in some form does not necessarily “undo” anything because the important aspect of the final duel was that Luke saved Abakan, not that Anakin killed Palpatine.

That last part came to me just as I was typing so these forums do actually help. :)

I was disappointed that Mark Hamill wasn’t present and worried what that meant for his appearance in the film. Especially when no one mentioned his absence. Glad though that his reasons are that he busy with non-Star Wars work. Looking forward to trying to figure out which voice is his in the new Dark Crystal. I’m guessing a Skeksis :)

I also wanted to avoided Mandalorian trailers but I’ll now have to tune in for that panel too.

The Death Star scenes are at the end.

Abrams deliberately mentioned confronting a “great (greatest??) evil” and I doubt he meant Kylo Ren. He’d have said his name. He was dropping the hint of a larger villain.

The big good vs evil confrontation of the film is Rey and Kylo Ren but the Emperor must be a part of it. I can’t see him something the heroes deal with at tee start line Jabba in RotJ.

I can’t access the edit tool but I just want to make it clear that while I had no excitement for Episode IX I’m getting frequent tingles now.

The teaser, the panel and the fans there showing the love & respect have made me very happy.

This is always my concern as well, after seeing how reminiscent TFA was. It's great to feel we're in the same universe since RotJ but I think TFA played it too safe. We can't say things started very different from this trailer: Death Star appears, again (even if just its wreckage) and we have Palpatine back in some form. I understand JJ will make a tie-in movie with IX, and while I think it can make sense to bring back Palpatine in the end, bringing the Death Star element, while exciting in its own way it's a sign that we'll not be seeing many new things in IX.

I appreciate fan service like the next fan, but it needs to be subtle and not frequent. I think TFA had too many parallels, references and similar elements (another tunnel chase, death star, desert planet, slave hero, etc), which led me to appreciate it less than I could.

Rogue One showed how you can do fan service using many elements we know (star destroyers, alliance/rebel ships, X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, etc) but achieve to do something that feels totally different in the end. The space and ground battle on Scariff was among the best stuff I've ever seen in Star Wars movies. The ramming sequence was incredible. Solo also did a great job on showing elements we already knew, and a story we knew how it ended (with Han alive) and still provide something very fresh (a different story). So, as long as JJ uses elements we know about but doesn't copy too much scenes, and doesn't make too many parallels to what we've already seen I think IX could end being a fantastic ending to the saga.

Here is a question I’ve had for a few years but never in my head when I have the chance to ask.

Am I correct about the following?

Endor is NOT the world where the Ewoks live and where the Rebels battled the stormtroopers on the ground.

The Ewoks actually live on a moon that orbits Endor but it has no actual given name? Do we see Endor on screen?

    Or am I completely wrong?

From the teaser the only familiar old element is the Death Star and Palpatine.

The rest looks like Abrams has moved passed the need to make to copy anything. It has the look and feel of an Abrams movie rather than copying the OT and he has provided the amped up action he should have put on screen in TFA.

I’m wary of the return of Palpatine but hopeful it is a return that makes sense. Ashoka, Kansan and Ezra are characters that should not have happened according to “canon” and they just turned out fantastic and are vital to the mythology now.

Palpatine is the big villain of the Skywalker story. Maybe he needs to be there at the end.

The title has me curious too.

Is Rey going to take it as her name - to be Luke’s daughter is spirit - or will the spirit of Luke (and maybe Anakin) return to deal with Palpatine?
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 14, 2019 ---
I don’t understand Bob Iger’s statement about Star Wars movies “taking a breather”.

They don’t need a breather - just don’t rush ANY movie to be out on a specific date.

Solo hit a bump in the road. It should simply have been movies to Christmas and Ron Howard would have been able to use the intended villain and actor and the movie wouldn’t have been up against impossible odds.

Just let Kathleen Kennedy do her job.
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 14, 2019 ---
I like the idea of Rey becoming a Skywalker through her actions rather than being a blood relative.

In the future the name can number something to achieve rather be born too.

I think it makes it more mythical and magical.

So...does Endor have any other moons besides the forest moon that the DS2 remains could be on?

They are not giving away the end.

What they showed in the teaser is no different to the brief glimpses if the Starkiller Forest in the TFA trailers.

Perhaps you misunderstood what I meant by “end”. I didn’t mean it is the final shot of the film or something like that - I meant the Death Star and Emperor are a part of the big good vs evil showdown.

As the Rebel shuttle approaches the Death Star there is a red planet in the background.

Does Endor itself actually appear on screen?

But if they are returning to the system doesn’t it make sense for them to use the Ewoks and their world rather than another in the same place.

Endor is the moon. Why is this suddenly confusing people after 36 years?

I didn't want to but I laughed so hard, I don't know if it's the dude's voice or what... but he always makes me laugh even when I don't want to.

It was always kind of an afterthought. You say it aloud (usually in it's entirety) but you don't think about it, "the Forest Moon of Endor". I always understood it to be all 3 things, full of forests, a moon, and known by the name of Endor. But if you start dividing it up the phrase maybe you can get legitimately confused because why not just call it Endor. Takadonna had a lot of green on it too (which Rey even remarks about when she sees it), but it's never referred to as the Foliage Filled Planetoid of Takadonna. I can see how someone could get confused.

I can’t speak for “people” but I’m the person who brought it up and I never said anything about being “confused” or that it was “sudden”.

The place is often referred (not on screen) to as Endor itself. And at the moment I have no recollection of seeing the actual planet on screen.

There is no need to be a grump about it.

I would love if that Rey vs Kylo’s fighter involved landing on it and cutting into while it is flying but I think she going to cut into it and land on the other side.

Is Rey using Force Speed in her run it is it a normal healthy person run (the kind I couldn’t do)

The moon is referred to as Endor onscreen, in the conversation between Vader and Palpatine where Vader is ordered to bring Luke to Palpatine.

That's why this sudden debate about the place is so weird.

Can you explain exactly what your problem is and why you feel the need for drama ?

    “Sudden debate” and “weird”.

    What “debate”?

I asked a question. There is no debate. Stop exaggerating.

Calm down. If it is a topic that upsets you then just relax and ignore it.

Well according to Wookipedia, the planet name is Endor and it is a gas giant. Endor has 9 moons, the largest one being The Forest Moon of Endor. However, it the moon also is referred to as Endor. So since Endor is used interchangeably for the planet and it’s largest moon it can be confusing

    Thank you.

I didn’t know there were other moons so the scenes in the teaser could occur on any one of those nine.

The majority of the audience though is not going to be aware of this so if the heroes are returning to Endor many will expect Ewoks.

Doesn’t make sense to set this on any other moon.

While I would much prefer Abrams to stop using deserts and the same kind of planets if we going back to Endor then we damn well better get Ewoks.:)

The topic and the confusion associated with it has come up in several different conversations both here and elsewhere, which is why I find it odd.

So, after two days, I have collected my thoughts.

I like overall feeling of the trailer, the scale and sense of adventure. I love seeing all the characters together, it's beautifully shot. I appreciated that J.J. incorporated some of Rian's red esthetic. Overall, the trailer made me emotional.

But... as much as I was tickled pink with Palpatine's cackle at first, after thinking for a while, I am not sure how to really feel about that particular detail.

First, I find it hard to believe that J.J. "mystery box" Abrams revealed Palpatine's involvement in a teaser. Second, if Palpatine is actually back in the flash, I feel that would devalue both Vader's redemption and Luke's rejection of the dark side. Still, execution is the mother of all, I am not excluding the possibility that it can be one effectively even if I don't see it.

So, I like it a lot, it's emotional and exciting, I have some reservations. :D

It coming up “elsewhere” is irrelevant. You got melodramatic here.

I think it is “odd” that it bothers you.

I’ve had the question on and off for probably the last ten or twenty years and even I haven’t cared enough about the answer to look it up.

    Relax.
