Should I pee on everyone's parade? Sure. :D

Just because we hear Palpatine's laugh does not mean that he is alive.

    Do we remember this?

    Sentinel_BFII.png

Not to mention there are plenty other ways - recording, flashback, Force vision, etc.

I don't know why, but I feel the teaser is designed to lead us a certain way and the movie will go another.

I hadn't thought about that... and I hope you're right. I'd love to see Yavin IV.

I agree he won't be phisically there, an hologram is my main bet too.
And you could be right about the plot line, but personally I don't think that the new canon is so tied to the ST movies.
I don't think there ever was a plan in such details, partially revealed by the novels etc...

Of course, even if I am right, maybe Terrio and JJ read that novel...
However, I think it's more likely that they are going to use past movies material, even more so because there are far more chances that the general audience know more about them. And even that is not a given.

    Which leads me to this

Like I said, I am not sure about Plagueis, it may be it may be not. But I think they can use Sidius only
(just because almost every one knows who he is while the same cannot be said about Plagueis).

And speaking of Rise of Skywalker it should be noticed, that is singular.
There won't be an order of SkywalkerS. But a Skywalker that... rises.

It may hint to Ben's redemption, I guess it does.
But I also think it may have multiple meanings and that the more oblique not the most obvious one s about the endgame.

And Rise can also be a reference to the actual birth of Anakin, how and why he was created in the first place.
Was it really the Force or it was Sidius?

And then... I agree, I see him coming back, re-born at end of the 9th movie. That has been my head canon since TFA.

Also because, what if, the great imbalance was his birth, just because it didn't go how it was supposed to go, because Sidius intervened.
So that balance is ultimately restoring the Will of the Force, making that happen how it is supposed to happen. Letting Skywalker rise how he was always supposed to do.

    That's my headcanon, sure.
But at least I am just a little bit confindent about it.

    This all seems pretty plausible.

The other thing that hit me is Palpatine being in the movie (as a ghost or whatever) may show that not only did he create Anakin, but he was somehow able to create Rey as well.

So she becomes a "Skywalker" without contradicting TLJ.

Rise of Skywalker then refers to Ben's redemption and/or Rey meeting her potential. Both then can tie back to Anakin- Ben is redeemed like Anakin, and Rey does even better by not falling to the darkside.

Didn't JJ say Rey was special?

Or Rey is a skywalker/solo and they HAVE to backtrack on TLJ based on the left over scenes from TFA. (My theory has been that Rey was a solo/skywalker in TFA and the scene where Leia reveals this to her was cut. Since this is one of the scenes used from TFA, they have to go this route. When you think about it, Rey has zero motivation for going to Luke at the end of TFA. There had to have been something cut.)

I think it COULD be Poe flying that tie, and it's a training move.

I don't know if someone noticed the parallels with ep I and VI.

    - Rey and the tie fighter on a desert planet - 1st encounter Qui Gon and Maul on Tatooine.(1)
    - an hidden city in the mountais is an inverse of a city hidden under the sea (1)
. C3PO, Finn and Poe flying on whatever they are on... it's reminiscent of the escape from Tatooine (6)
    - And at the same time of the chase on Endor, because of all the bikes around them...

    "EVERY GENERATION HAS A LEGEND"
"THE SAGA COMES TO AN END"
Those are familiar words. The first one is an exact quote of The Phantom Menace TEASER TRAILER. Don't remember? Watch it right here:

    "Every generation has a legend...
Every journey has a first step...
    Every saga has a beginning.
    THE SAGA BEGINS SPRING 1999"

With this reference, I believe JJ is making it clear that this last chapter wraps up the ENTIRE saga.

The Star Wars timeline may have started a millennium ago with that big scale war between the Sith and the Jedi, which led to the formation of the Old Republic. However, THE 9-movie SAGA is not about the entire timeline/universe. It's about the SKYWALKER family. The rest of the SW universe is explored in other productions like Rebels, TCW, Resistance, R1, Solo, The Mandalorian, etc.

For this reason, I strongly believe that the movie title refers to Anakin. Not because he would have a leading role, but because his story may become critical to the plot, to defeat evil: Palpatine, or his puppet/heir, who has acquire a similar level of power: Kylo.

Some folks have already said it: Palpatine cheated death, or a Sith Force ghost (or phantom? both words mean "fantasma" in Spanish). However, let's not get too excited because of that evil laugh. In previous teasers trailers of the Sequel Trilogy, we have heard Vader's breathing, Luke's speech about "the Force runs in my family", or Leia's whispering "Help Obi-Wan Kenobi". Stuff that TEASES us and don't necessarily make it to the movie.

Perhaps we will see Palpatine and Anakin as part of Rey's visions. In TFA, she saw past scenes: her own childhood and a bit from TESB. Maybe with her increased powers, she's now able to look further into the past, and on command. (The IX Panel suggested that there could be a new Force power. Pretty much every single SW movie from this Saga reveals a new Force power).

In short, my guess is that this movie will look at the very beginning to reach the end.

But don't take me too seriously. I've been proven wrong so many times.

I will say that putting "Skywalker" in the title and revealing Palpatine now means that there must be a doozy of a plot twist in this movie.

RE: TPM trailer, it's amazing how much they gave away in that trailer compared to what JJ gives us...

It's interesting you mention the hidden city under the sea. It was only after the third or fourth viewing of the trailer that I realised the city WASN'T underwater. I thought it was Naboo again.

But kudos for noticing the parallels. "It all rhymes..."

I thought about the mask since its destruction in TLJ.
But I think keeping the mask is also symbolic.
It is a direct response of Kylo to Snoke: "I have killed you (Snoke), and I can do whatever I want. And I will keep this mask!"
Remember that Snoke said: "take that ridicule thing off".
Is just Kylo being childish and egocentric.

It's great to see Palpatine return in the last chapter of the Skywalker saga in one way or another. He was key in the rise of the Empire and of Darth Vader. Possibly, he was involved in the rise of Anakin Skywalker, directly or indirectly because he and Plagueis unbalanced the force. If his master knew how to cheat death, maybe he also has found a way. Plagueis being Snoke makes so much sense that maybe there's still a chance he's he.

The Rise of Skywalker. It may be about Anakin, as in the story of Anakin coming to be. He was always special, the greatest Jedi ever, and Luke after him. The chosen one who would bring balance to the force. Now Rey rises and she seems to be even more powerful than Anakin and possibly Luke, especially when fully trained.

"A thousand generations live in you now", says Luke, to Rey, supposedly. So, Rey must be connected with Anakin and Luke somehow. Even if just by the sheer will of the force itself. It's like the force is perfecting itself in each new generation, creating ever more powerful and wise force wielders in response to equally great unbalancing dark side agents.

So, someone or something has created Anakin and now Rey, and that must have been the force. What role Palpatine had on that is unknown. One possibility is that Palpatine found out about Snoke and Rey was his plan to get rid of it. He could have "created" her as he did with Anakin when he felt the need to have a much stronger apprentice. The parallel is there, both slaves, in deserts, found in the most unlikely places, but protected by the force since they were gifted.

"And you, young Skywalker. We will watch your career with great interest." -Palpatine of Anakin in TPM
"The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi." -Palpatine in TESB
"Now, young Skywalker, you will die." -Palpatine in ROTJ

Palpatine many times referred to Anakin and Luke as just "Skywalker".

After seeing the trailer something tells me that the key to the all saga is and always was Palpatine, and that we will know in this last chapter that it was him all along that was pulling the strings. He probably found a way to manipulate the force to create such powerful beings. If Snoke was aware of Palpatine, it's unknown. One thing we know is that Snoke worshipped Vader, so he probably knew Palpatine. The relation between these two evil dark siders is unknown. Were they competitors, or did they cooperate? And what's the role of Ben Solo in all of this?

So, as @Unseen has also said, perhaps Rey was created the same way Anakin was, by the force with or without the direct intervention of Palpatine, which technically can make them brothers, or at very least the same kin, and therefore Rey could be a Skywalker and this 9 chapter saga was all about "The Rise of Skywalker", and about the entity that was behind it all. The force with or without Palpatine's direct intervention.

Actually, at that point in the saga, Sidious had not yet died, but someone else had...

judging from the interviews happening today...JJ is scared out of his mind. But I think he has pulled it off. Star Wars takes scrutiny, and I think they have pulled that off.
