Well, that's awkward... Less than a month after official channels proudly announced The Old Republic was continuing its decade-long journey with the long-anticipated Legacy of the Sith expansion on December 14, project director Keith Kanneg has dropped the news that it'll now launch on February 15.

It appears the testing phase on the game's PTS (public test server) gave the BioWare developers much-needed feedback regarding the new systems, mechanics, and areas that are being added. Then, it became clear that they wouldn't be able to deliver a massive update worthy of the game's current polished state in time for this Christmas season:

I'm glad, and I'm sure most of the community will feel the same way, that they're taking their time with the next step in The Old Republic's ongoing overarching story, as plenty of triple-A games have recently launched with less than optimal builds that need plenty of post-launch fixing. Besides, we shouldn't forget the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on big video game projects such as this one.

Beyond The Old Republic, 2022 is shaping up to be filled with gaming-related Star Wars news and other releases, including Zynga's Star Wars Hunters. EA also claimed back in July they'd have more news regarding their upcoming Star Wars projects in the next year, plus Lucasfilm Games has enlisted other studios and publishers to start pumping out big titles in the coming years -- this includes Quantic Dream's rumored High Republic title (which could be revealed during this Thursday's Game Awards ceremony), Ubisoft Massive's open-world project, and Aspyr's KOTOR remake for PS5 and PC.
