The person who started the Petition retracted

I hear by declare this. FAKE NEWS!

 

Yes i was kidding friend! It was probably a big scam. I've taken a Space Crusier load of painkillers (sometimes mixed with a shot ) over the years & never had the urge 2 do something like this kid did.

 

Is this the petition with 40,000 signatures? Heh, I knew whoever came up with the idea wasn't in their right mind at the time.

 

wait what?....he.......he retracted? He was just mad about his gofundme page? .........well this changes everything. Maybe...........I'll change my opinion on the movie...

 

Here's his letter:

"Hey guys, I need to be honest here...

I put this petition up because I was upset and I was on strong pain medication. Last December I was in a vehicle accident and am still trying to get the surgery and such, it really messed up my knee and leg and put me in a wheelchair. If I sit up for a long time it really starts hurting.

So after spending the time to get to the movie, watch it, and get back I was in ridiculous pain. I was frustrated and medicated. So, I made this petition. It was a bad idea at the time and I feel that we are pooling our efforts in not a healthy direction.

While supporting this petition is important, and I too have a deep love for Star Wars, I recommend we maybe send this in a new direction. There are tons of people, and causes, who need help, and we are here for Star Wars.

I couldn't get the help on GoFundMe to help pay for my surgery, and yet *this* gets this kind of attention? To the point that this petition has been in multiple news publications at this point? How many other people out there need help and can't get attention?

I'm not comfortable with that...

I love all of the support, but we also know that Disney isn't going to do anything, and with so many people, who have much better causes, who are struggling to gain attention it is a shame that this is getting this level of media attention.

So please, while we all love Star Wars, I urge every single supporter who signed this, to also take a few minutes to look at other petitions on Change.Org, ones that are important, or look at causes on GoFundMe. Places where we can make a difference that matters.

"Not fighting what we hate but saving what we love." I don't think TLJ deserved this petition. Its a shame. I think its an amazing movie, one of the best 3 if not the best Star Wars movie ever.......

and I applaud the result of this guy's soul-searching. This petition was ridiculous.

nope. they can't remove it from canon. They need to own the mess they released.

 

I'm all for petitions and Star Wars fans holding differing opinions (even though your opinion to retract the 2nd most successful box office movie ever from canon has no chance of working), but him being on painkillers tells me everything. I feel for him if he needs surgery that badly, but he might have an issue with drugs.

 

I really don't care about these petitions either way for the reason stated above.

 

Pain meds are a weak cop out and an unnecessary lie that further creates misunderstanding about the effects of opiates, and piles on to the problems that keep anyone from being able to help fix the crisis. I myself am a recovered addict, proud to say that April 2018 will mark 5 years clean for me. At my worst I could crush and snort 120 mg of oxycontin in one shot. Just to put that in perspective most people who haven't developed a tolerance would throw up with a mere 10. Irrational actions like petitioning for a multi billion dollar company to erase a high grossing movie from canon, that most non-detractors love, isn't anywhere near the realm of actions the drug causes. It's a depressant, it doesn't make you manic, and most negative decisions under it's influence are motivated by how to get the next fix. Perhaps crack or crystal meth would have that effect but not opiates. A big reason that the crisis is growing is that lawmakers, enforcement, family of addicts, etc don't have a good understanding of the horrors of this lifestyle. I've attempted to contact many politicians to try to explain things from an addicts perspective because they're clueless about it. On a side note, if anyone in this forum is struggling with addiction and needs some guidance to get your life on track, please message me directly and I'd like to try to help you. I've started my own business, had no relapses or even temptation, and really turned my life around. It's an awful way to live and easier than most people think to fall into. Anyway, back to the jerk with the petition. Blaming his actions on painkillers is inaccurate, and adds to the flawed information that mounts obstacles in the path of an addict trying to get clean. Disregard his lame excuse, and my offer also extends to friends and family of addicts looking for more understanding to help their loved ones.
