Longer movies (regardless of quality) hurt total box office. There are exceptions to this rule (Titanic), but a 3 hour film reduces the number of total showings.

now we've hit April.. i feel like i'm on the top step looking down at December's release.

The lack of title and info had me in this state:-

    now..

i'll be back to my original state if many more people hijack threads to throw box office turds at each other.

Same here, and it was something that you can't explain to people that weren't...doesn't do that moment justice! :)

    I prefer like this.

If they release just a single teaser trailer before the film for me its fine.

    Less its better.

Better leave the twists, surprises and all the frissom for the movie it selfs.

I concur with the Lost comment. Lost was a show that came before its time. Why? Well it is a show that really was meant to have a beginning, middle and an end. You see more of those shows now. Back when Lost came out those were left to mini-series events that were like 4 episodes over a week. So JJ created the premise for Lost and certainly had involvement (less as the years went on), but the show didnt start with an ending in mind because it was a show that tried to get renewed each year. Well maybe it had an ending in mind, but the goal of year after year renewal likely caused the original ending to be discarded.

I'm just spitballing, but I bet Endgame misses some projections. It'll still be a big hit, but it's facing a lot more competition this time around than Infinity War faced last year. Detective Pikachu is going to a be a monster and it's out May 10th. A 3 hour run time will reduce the number of showings.
No where did I saw it will prevent the film from being successful. It just hurts overall box office. It's just simple math. There's less showings.

This is a great movie year for me. Endgame for the summer and Episode IX for the holidays. What a great time to be alive!

I agree, hence my statement that there's no such thing as "too long" when it's a good movie.

Your "simple math" proceeds from the false assumption that all showings are sold out and there is some of limit to the timeframe within which people can see a film. It doesn't work that way.

Please don't make assumptions for me. If a movie is longer there's less showtimes. If there's less showtimes there's less opportunity to see the film. This isn't complicated. Like I said... everyone who wants to see the film will see the film. It will be a hit.

It's also not complicated that they can run it pretty much 24/7, with multiple showtimes in the same theater and screenings. You're overselling what a 3hr movie is capable of. Especially with the magnitude that Endgame will be.

I am not making assumptions for you, I am demonstrating the false assumption your statement relies on. You seem to think the movie will have a fixed distribution or all showings will be packed when it just doesn't work that way.
Again, that's not how it works in the real world. That's why they do things like create more prints for a high-demand movie, extend theater hours and have longer distribution runs for blockbusters. Everyone who wants to see it will have the opportunity to see it. "Opportunity" is not the finite resource you seem to think it is, save perhaps on the very first day or 2 of release (and no one is going to sit there on April 26th and say "Boy I want to see Endgame on release day!! But gee, it is sold out at the showing I want so now I am not going to bother at all").

I'll be surprised if makes more than Black Panther based on the length and competition. A person who likes the film may also think twice about sitting a theater a 2nd time for a 3 hour episode. I certainly wouldn't do it.

It all boils down to one question. Is it possible the long length will discourage a number of people from seeing it a 2nd time? The answer to that question has to be 100% no for it not to effect the box office.

There are a few theaters doing all 22 MCU movies in a marathon. It's 59 hours and 7 minutes long. Now that's a runtime.

Yea, I've notice that a lot in the industry lately as a whole. Many remakes, live action remakes, sequels and prequels but less original pieces. Im excited for Brightburn, but that is still loosely based off of something else.
