You took the time to post some nonsense YoutTube video, but you won't even respond to my simple questions? If you want to talk about disrespect how about respecting those of us who want to discuss the film? You're not contributing to the conversation. It's borderline troll behavior.

@DailyPlunge if you don't like my posts or my opinion, it is maybe better if you put me on ignore instead of insulting me.

It's odd that your interpretation of an insult is someone asking you for a respectful contribution. Instead you just continue to give people like myself negative ratings simply because you refuse to engage in a conversation other than "this film sucks."

I answered so often why TLJ failed for me and what exactly failed, but some people just put it down the same way again and again. I just got tired of repeating myself in a way. I just think it makes no sense, because noone at least tries to repect if someone sees it in a different way.

Let's try not to emulate this guy...

Anyway, back on track. I think one of the major missed opportunities for me is that as far as I remember, Rey didn't get to see Luke's projection on Crait. Sure, she felt it, but I think it would've been great for her to see him actually being the hero she once believed, coming full circle.

It's in the novel as well though I'm not sure if she actually saw Luke just the entire First Order opening fire & then deciding to try & find another way into the base.

Yeah, just watched the scene. Seems like all she sees is the "Every Gun" moment.

I really wish she'd been there for the actual "duel", too. Would've been a nice callback to Luke watching Kenobi and Vader fight in A New Hope, sort of.

I agree completely, especially that writers and moviemakers (which is my desired career) such as myself liked or loved TLJ. I hesitate to say movie audiences are not as smart as film makers/critics, for the risk of sounding unkind, but I believe it to be true. They do not understand the intricacies of storytelling the way people who do it all the time do. Part of it I think a lot of average Star Wars fans just want the same thing as a nostalgia trip, and many others want the movie they theorized about.

I consider it more... poetic (?) that she realised that Luke helped the Resistance only after she directly helped it as well. Also, it makes more sense within the context of Rey arc in this film - she hoped that Ulke will help the Resistance, then that Ben would be able to help, but in the end she had to learn that most importantly she needs to help the cause and she needs to do something directly. at least that's how I see it.

They're just keeping Luke's interbellum history in the dark so they'll have enough narrative room to manoeuvre in IX. You should read The Legends of Luke Skywalker. It is awesome!

Not really. Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 are a pretty good indication that Marvel begins to dip their toes into more nuanced stories and if these films and The Last Jedi are any indication for the future of blockbuster cinema, then all I can say is that I want more. :)

The Legends of Luke book was only so-so (B-). The concept was sound, but the stories were weak for a myths and legends book. Especially if he as broken and the point is to illustrate and contrast the character face to face vs legend. The more extreme/fantastical his heroics and deeds would have been in the book, the more dynamic the comparison would have been to his current state in TLJ. It would have been a win win for everybody. I wish Ken would have upped the anti - it all could have been hand waved anyway and I would have this really unique book..

The book isn't about the fantastic and shouldn't be about the fantastic, it is about the question "who is Luke?" in relation to his portrayal in TLJ :). It is framed according to the workings of oral memory and storytelling. I think it is genius :p

Perhaps Black Panther, for its cultural significance and its villain, but I wouldn't consider Thor Ragnorak and especially GotGII as having a considerable amount of narrative depth.

i actually think both Thor Ragnarok and GotGII are more narratively complex than many people give them credit.
just because they are ridiculously silly movies doesn't mean they don't pack an emotional punch that builds from many years of storytelling in the universe they've created for those characters. i haven't seen Black Panther yet, so I can't speak to that one, but i would generally agree that Marvel is doing a pretty good balance between the high-octane action and stories that actually feel like they might matter.
(which is not something i can say for other superhero franchises). : o p

That's just it though, Star Wars isn't about real life themes, it's escapism; fun and adventure. I think writing a theme that is so obvious it smacks you over the head and is executed in such a way fitting more for a character drama and not for a Star Wars movie, that is why I think it's so divisive. It's just jarring and doesn't fit with the tone of Star Wars. It is what it is, and it is one weird Star Wars film.

No it really is about real life themes.
It uses fantasy and escapism to approach these in a manner that is more palatable to the masses.

Let me rephrase; I don't want to see political themes being thrown into an epic action film like Star Wars, I guess you could consider it as themes of the film? That rich people are apathetic gambling war profiteers, and save all the animals that have to be saved, this includes eating meat. This kind of stuff shouldn't be in Star Wars IMO. If this was not their intention? I've misread the film dearly because that's part of what I got out of it; That and an awesome Lightsaber team up in the thrown room.
