Probably one of the most intense discussions/debates we have ever had on the podcast, where very different points of view hash it out over whether Disney is too secretive over Star Wars projects and information. From details on upcoming projects to basic info like release dates and toys, is Disney too secretive about Star Wars for a franchise with such a rabid fan base? We get into it, you don't want to miss this one!

We also answer several other questions in Will of the Force like - Will Hux have any scenes with Rey in The Rise of Skywalker?

The Resistance base is open to all, so spread the word about TRB and join us!

Good show as always, but the main discussion focused to much on TROS. I believe overall with the whole franchise they are being to secretive or just plain communicating poorly.

It really harmed Solo and I think it has hurt the franchise because it is making it appear that LucasFilm doesnt really know what to do. If you come across as confident people tend to believe you are confident. Celebration after Celebration I have wished for a road map panel. Let us know the plan for the next 2-5 years. A presentation like Marvel just did for phase 4. Somethings they simply should get out to the public. A slide that shows the major media items coming. Title the series, title the movies, announce the books, announce games, etc. Of course things subject to change. Think about it The Mandalorian is 3.5 months away and no trailer. I dont even know if we saw the trailer at Celebration. I think it was in progress trailer. Resistance Season 2 is likely 2 months away and no trailer and no official release date. Give us a title for Cassian series, give us a title for series 3. Announce release date or timeframe.

But I also think the timeframe for this has passed. It should have been done at Celebration. It is a bit of a slap in the face to do it at D23 to the people that attended Celebration. With the next Celebration at the end of August 2020 I think that is 2 late for it to be done in front of Star Wars fans.

Want to drop my two cents on this topic.

Nobody complained about the secrecy before The Last Jedi.

The Force Awakens was just as secretive, but it made the secrecy worth it. Being in the theater the first time and learning that Kylo is Han's son, seeing Snoke's appearance, finding out that Luke was betrayed by his padawan--all those reveals made the secrecy worth it. They hid things, but then they revealed them.

But the Last Jedi, in contrast, hid everything but revealed very little. It never earned its own secrecy. Fans speculated not because they're somehow over-entitled and make a big deal of everything. They speculated because, last time, they did so and their speculation was rewarded.

Now that The Last Jedi failed to earn its own secrecy, everyone is asking the "Is Star Wars too secret?" question and the "Is speculation bad?" question. We didn't ask these questions before, because TFA actually rewarded the secrecy and speculation.

I really havent come across many people complaining about secrecy of films. What I do come across is overall secrecy of the franchise. Really high level things. Like what is actually coming. When? How about a trailer? No one wants film secrets given away. If a character presence in the film is important that no way should they ruin the surprise. If the look of something is important then no way give away any hint of the look. What I dont like is when news comes out basically during a financial analyst call for investors.

I will add that secrecy of films has changed.
TFA title came out early November 2014 over 13 months before TFA release. Trailer later that same month.
TLJ title came out January 2017 and trailer at Celebration Orlando.
TROS title come out at Celebration Chicago with the trailer.

Yes. Definately secretive because they don't want you to know that:

A: The new film is a an unoriginal safe lazy remake or reboot of something that previously worked before, which would anger fans expecting something "new".
B: The new film actually sucks. The makers know it, and they don't want you to know it before they release it, because that would harm profits.
C: There are no novelisations of the films, because that would generate spoilers and could harm reviews, film tickets and merchandise sales.
D: The film has been through specific audience test screenings that generate quick easy money with a general audience.
    E: All of the above

With the news that Star Wars Resistance is ending after season 2 I believe this discussion has even more merit. Only thing that bothers me about Lucasfilm is secrecy.

We should have known that Resistance Season 2 would be the last season at Celebration. They had to have known already with how far in advance they do the voice work for animated series. If they were going to have a season 3 the voice work would have been done prior to Celebration.
