In another thread (which I didn't want to derail, so am posting this) some connections between Murph (from the movie Interstellar) and Rey came to mind. Bear in mind that I'm not making predictions for EIX here, but just, thinking out loud, as it were. And thinking about where things might go if the connection is meaningfully related to the course of the movie.

Both left on a desert world leading to a scene with both shouting at a departing vehicle.
Both initially counting the days until the return.
Both "give up" on the return on the departed.
Both face feelings of purposed abandonment.
Both have special gifts, an inherent aptitude.
Both mentored by an older man who is hiding a truth that changes the way they think about the mentor.
Both tasked with saving something larger than themselves.
Both have a male antagonist counterpart.
Both have a "quantifiable connection" with the protagonist.

If the connection is meaningful and moves into Episode IX then this could lead to:

Both have an "extra-dimensional ghost" comminucating with them, and instructing them.

Interstellar features a unique place called the tesseract. It's a place where time is represented in 3d allowing the protagonist to act across time, creating bootstrap paradoxes. The tesseract is created by "bulk beings" who are people who have evolved past the four dimensions we know. They are "five-dimensional" beings. The tesseract sounds a lot like the "world between worlds" from Star Wars.

The force ghosts and the bulk beings.

The force exists beyond the dimensions we know. The force ghosts are the "hands" of the force. In Interstellar, it's the "bulk beings" (who are actually humans who evolved beyond time and space) who built the tesseract, maybe it is the force ghosts who built the "world between worlds". What if the force ghosts exist beyond time? Can a force connection be established which is beyond the constraints of time? Did Kylo Ren actually see Rey in Rey's force vision? Remember when Rey appeared in the rain scene, and Kylo turned as if he saw her, then made a move toward her before she "disappeared"? Is Rey's connection with Kylo beyond the bounds of time, and that connection allowed him to see her in the past?

Time travel in Star Wars sounds a bit off to me, but I said before that could be simply because it hasn't been introduced so it's "off"ness is just a result of it not being there in the context of the story. If it's introduced, it may quickly become "on"ness. But if the above were to play out, what makes it interesting is that the time travel has in fact already been introduced (via the existence of force ghosts) it just hasn't been revealed yet. But if the force ghosts are the proverbial "hands" of the force, causing events across time according to the "will of the force"? It's different, to my mind at least, than simply introducing time travel into the story. It's strange, but fascinates me at the possiblity of adding potential depth to the force ghosts.

    What do you think?

I'm not sure how to respond yet, but like what you're saying. And I think it would be cool if the whole time ,Obi Wan had been her guiding force. Which I believe will be the case, honestly.

They did do time travel in Star Wars Rebels and I agree it felt a little off. I know Star Wars is filled with extraordinary Jedi powers, light speed, aliens etc but time travel seemed like a big addition to make.

I think its possible and very likely that someone like Obi-Wan was watching over Rey. Guiding her with an unseen hand as she grew up and that is maybe why she heard his voice when she touched Luke/Anakin's lightsaber. Maybe at that moment, he decided to guide her a little more directly by speaking to her. There is also a weird unexplained connection with Rey and Kylo from the past. Kylo in the Force Awakens movie says, “What girl?”, and that he says “it is you” after Rey force pulls Anakin’s lightsaber in The Force Awakens book, heavily implying he is connecting her to a force sensitive girl in his past.

To me, these potential connections or unexplained connections don't suggest time travel or moving through time 4th dimensionally but I do think its a fascinating potential ability for a force ghost.

I appreciate the clear ideas and connections you brought out in this post. Really enjoyed reading it, so glad to have some fun new theories to give thought to.

Left the board for several months, got really tired of all the negativity, your post made me really happy I decided to come back.
