    I haven't seen TLJ yet, but it seems to me Rian has made a very different movie than what has come before.

    well its like this really. You want something different, but you don't want someone to torch everything. A stormtrooper that defects to the good guys, has to learn how be functional in a healthly environment while some how learning he/she is force sensitive, and becoming a jedi of sorts; that is different. They had that. They had a lot of things that was different. An orphan girl who grew up on a harsh world that runs into the ex-stormtrooper, makes a new friend through adversity, learns she and her new friend are connected through a bond that she doesn't understand, etc. These are different things. They had this.

    Black space janitor scooby doo who gets a taste of violence from nearly every character is not different, its also very bad. Orphan girl who can do any and everything while having a mysterious background is sort of different, in a very bad way. Mysterious orphan girl who turns out to come from no where is not different. Mysterious orphan girl who waits for the parents that sold her into slavery for drugs and a ship, because she's in denial and very different, and very very bad. Mysterious orphan girl who can do any and everything for no reason and is very strong and heroic is sort of different, and sort of bad. Female orphan powerhouse reduced to a simpering battered girlfriend is super different and super bad. A hero who couldn't kill his father because he saw good in him, but tries to kill his sleeping nephew because of a "force vision?", is hella different and hella bad. very very very bad.

    PS. Mysterious girl who grew up on a desert junkyard world, but can somehow swim, is hilariously different and depressingly bad.

    OMG DIDN'T think of orphan girl that grew up on Jakku knows how to swim... but I still loved Rey's story. It was kind of weird seeing her look at Finn caring for Rose... sort of or a bit jealous IMHO... still loved Rey. I hope she doesn't hook up with Poe.

    Wow. I have yet to see it (non-stop dad duties until Monday afternoon), but I am VERY curious and interested in whether this is a positive or negative response on your part, and how you settle on how you feel about the film in the end.
