Rian Johnson took all the lore created in Force Awakens, crapped on it, then smeared it all over 2 and a half hours of film. This movie did not feel like star wars. It felt more like a guardians of the galaxy movie. The director gave no respect to the pacing or lore of any of the previous movies and sucked the life right out of the franchise. Abrams really has his work cut out for him saving this mess. This movie ranks right down there with Phantom Menace. Help us JJ Abrams, you're our only hope!

You know, I loved this film. I just seen it. But reading this comment I do see where you are coming from. I mean there were a few moments where weight and gravitas were sort of dumped in order to surprise or get a laugh. I get this didn't go the way we thought. Over and over again in certain moments. But I don't want to see Luke take that lightsaber and fling it behind his head like tin can either.

There are points in the movie and the story telling that you get why (at least visually and in a few places emotionally) they hired Rian Johnson. The premise for the Resistance story line was at least original. But considering the entire work as a whole, it really does lack the fit and feel of an actual Star Wars movie. It feels like someone who wasn't a fan or a student Star Wars or it's characters created his own version of the franchise. It feels foreign. I hated it.

I'm still trying to put my heart back together with super glue and mend it with binging lots of ice cream!

I can't get tickets until next week. Local cinema booked up except for crappy back sets, and this film deserves a decent seat.

Rian is leagues ahead of JJ.

Effing brutal. The fact they already gave this guy a new trilogy, before the REAL reviews start pouring in, is simply dumbfounding. He has killed Star wars. At least the potential that was there for THIS trilogy. I honestly can't believe it.

It was indeed a good movie with good acting. How ever the story was horrible.

I went to the show last night and was utterly disappointed. I have been a star wars fan since I can remember and am heart broken at the way things have turned. Disney and this Johnson guy have taken one of the best stories to be put on film and made a joke out of it. The movie could have been cut by an hour without all of the staring at each other scenes and non-point loops. As a true fan I will continue to have hope but I don't see how the story can recover its former glory.

"The Force Awakens is a rehash and too safe, we wanted something new!"
"The Last Jedi is NOT Star Wars and I hate it!"

Someone is always gonna be pissed. If one side of the fandom gets what they want, the other side is bent. I don't like a couple of the decisions that were made, but I do love how he did them.

My respect for Rian Johnson has increased after seeing this film. The plight of the core characters drive the plot and their motivations and actions are totally believable unlike the prequels. JJ also focused on character but I really think Rian has shown his craft and taken them to the next level in terms of their complexity, motivations, arc and in turn he get's great performances out of the actors.

For example, Anakin's fall to darkness never felt credible to me whereas I am totally sold on Kylo Ren's motivations for his actions and his eventual fall to the dark side.

These two new movies feel like a weak omage to old "actors" not the characters. The characters should serve the story not the actors. It feels like disrespect for the old story. I choked down "the Force Awakens" and its strange planet killer weapon that sucks a sun dry at a closer range than Mercury is from our sun and yet has snow on it. hmm, and was hopeful for TLJ but just could not feel it like I can with the old stories. Furthermore, most of the new characters are just weak. The effects were amazing as expected. I don't get how they can nail Rogue One and mess the original up so bad. However, it is still Star Wars at least in name and I will continue to have hope.

This man doesn't deserve a trilogy. Not even an episode of FoD.

Without spoilers- it's the kind of movie that is kind of hard to take in some aspects but kind of uplifting in other ways. It's hard to explain until you see it. Many come out saying they need to see it again. I was the same. I'll be going again this weekend. I don't feel like I can fully grasp and rate the film until then.

I might see it again (IMAX OR 4DX) but I might wait for the digital release so I can enjoy it at home I spent allot on my home theater and wait for the collector's edition hopeful with commentary by RJ to better understand his decisions.
