It was a photo that Rian Johnson took from outside Pinewood Studios that said something about something beginning. He posted it to his Instagram, but then took it down for whatever reason.

 

I thought he posted it to Twitter/Tumblr ?

 

You're right. The point is that it wasn't a leak but a post that Rian Johnson made to his social media.

 

I didn't see anything, you may have to ask the members up above me who may have saw it before it was removed.

 

It was made onto his social media and he had to remove it. I will try and find the image and post it.

From Rian Johnson's AMA a while back:

"I'm intrigued by the idea of going bigger. I see what Nolan did with Inception for instance, and I wonder if we could paint on that kind of canvas, while still telling our stories that engage audiences the way I'm looking to engage them. But of course that's if the next story I get excited about requires that kind of scale. If it doesn't, I don't think it'll be hard to recede and just go smaller. I'm pretty good at receding."

I think VIII will have a similar flavor to Interstellar. Maybe black holes?

Apologies if this is out of line with the thread.

I'm hoping Rian is up to the task of this film. He seems like a good director (you would hope so with being given the task of a Star Wars film), but Star Wars is another beast. I know JJ is an Executive Producer and Consultant, but will his involvement be very limited?

 

My gut feeling is that JJ won't have a lot of involvement.
I think that JJ's largest contribution to VIII is VII and the storylines he set up there. He's no doubt important to the future of Star Wars, but he's not KK or the Story Group.

I agree. I don't really know what I'm after... I guess its stability. Its easy in trilogy films to see the different direction/style and story from different writers. Whilst we're no doubt getting 3 different directors, I'm hoping JJ (or Kasdan and the Story Group) have outlined a clear plot to Episode 9, with Rian Johnson and co. filling in their touch for JJ and Co. to approve.

 

Hmmm... I understand the concern. I'm of the opinion that the broad story of the trilogy (or perhaps a small group of several possible directions) was sketched out by JJ, Kasdan, and the story group during the creation of TFA. And then when they brought Rian in he pretty much solidified/chose which story they were going to tell (which influenced TFA as well, as JJ has noted).
Given that Rian also's going to have a significant influence on IX as well, I'm actually starting to see him as the creative force of this trilogy (though of course KK probably comes in at a close second).

 

Looks to be a First Order ship that he's doing that crossword on....
